My hopes for the trade period stay relatively the same regardless, I like the talent in the 5-25 bracket so if we can get 3-4 of that, bring in some cheaper role players I'll be happy. Marty Hore is a really good target imo, plays tall or small as a rebound type from the backline. I was a fan of going for Spargo but don't reckon he leaves with Hannah heading to the dogs. Speaking about the Dogs, Lin Jong as an outside mid option I don't mind either, would come cheap as well with the Dogs needing those draft points. Jasper Pittard as a DFA I like as he'd be cheap and he's at least at the level, nothing special granted. Will be interesting to see who Tigers get rid of, looking at guys like Derek Eggmolese-Smith, Ryan Garthwaite (ex-GWS academy) that may be delisted purely because of list cuts, they'd be good value imo. Fraser Turner is a 2nd year player for them I think will be delisted as well that I liked in his draft year.
The Tom Macdonald rumours I do not like, not unless we were paying max 400k of his contract, hasn't strung together a full season to suggest he's worth anymore than 500k in total

I’m really weary of all of this.
One of the main reasons I have become a footy supporter is the tribal nature and loyalty aspects of the game.
I do really enjoy the draft process and love seeing how those players develop and as a supporter get a great deal of pride seeing them wear the charcoal and orange and fulfil their potential.
Being an inaugural GWS supporter has been incredible from the point of view of watching the club develop from nothing and seeing the talented kids go from battlers to competition stars.
Seeing many of the players speculated on and often leave has been really hard but we’ve always seemed to be in control and kept most of what we wanted.
This unfortunately is no longer the case and the club is in free fall, I’m pretty confident most people, even the most ardent supporters feel this way with only 3 people seemingly blind to it Leon, Matthews and McCartney.
Leon needs to be criticised for not getting the right people around him, allowing his Richmond/Dogs background for him to make dick moves bringing in his mates such as Craig Cameron, Wayne Campbell, McCartney and playing useless hacks like Sam Reid over quality kids, starving them of opportunity leading them to leave.
McCartney left the Bulldogs with half the playing group hating his guts, signed Coniglio and Whitfield to ridiculous uncommercial 7 year deals not to mention the absolutely moronic Josh Kelly deal. This plus signing hacks like Lachie Keeffe to 2 year deals when nobody else wants them.
Matthews is beyond arrogant. He thought with the list we had everything would just happen, backed in Leon and his band of mates to wave a wand with a 2004 play look, no ruckman and no support.
Matthews is for Matthews. He was positioned here by the AFL and has zero investment in the franchise other than to big note and increase his chances of taking over from Gil once he’s done his time.
Nobody gives two fu*ks about this team. It’s a convenient 2nd club that helps to enhance TV rights. None of the important decision makers have any real tie or passion for the club, they are just pay packet loyal transients.
The players who have been resilient and moved their loyalty to success which now looks far away, and we immediately see how it is unwinding.
The AFL will keep concentrating on its basket case Gold Coast until it gets into finals, and will wait for this team to either become a rock bottom basket case or fold before lifting a finger. The AFL can only ever deal with one problem team at a time, as long as the TV rights money keeps rolling in there is nothing to see here. This was Vlad’s passion, not Gil’s.
You only has to watch that smug fat f*** Maguire on Footy Classified smiling/laughing incessantly when told how well Collingwood had done luring GWS stars and know he’s on competition committees and AFL key boards to realise how parlous things are for us.
I support players and a team, the transactions don’t interest me one bit. The game is a defensive siege, the players fast becoming mercenaries and the key people in charge could not give a f***.
So why should we? Sincerely nearly over it.

You forgot he is also involved in every "equalization" talks and decisions the AFL makes, im sure he has the best interests in heart for Northern clubs

No talk so far and there usually is by now, if something is in the water, but who knows.
Doubtful any of the big long term 5 will request.
Agree with everything you said. We have no friends in Victoria, the Swans resent us, other states tolerate us at best, we are staring down a slippery slope.
Only supreme leadership from players, coaching and admin will get us back to the top of the hill.
No one will be stretching out a hand to help pull us back up.
I know it sounds crazy, but I would have an independent review of the club and would get a bloke like Leigh Matthew’s in to oversee it.
I kind of wish we had brought Ross Lyon in to coach as he is smart and he is ruthless. Unfortunately he had a run in with Matthews during the Cam McCarthy drama which damaged the relationship plus he’s best mates with Roos who cannot stand GWS. If not Lyon we need that type of character, someone smart with a hint of ruthlessness.
Funny thing is. If we had retained Jezza and the other 5 blokes still left, it would have been easier to deal with.

If you’re looking for something to do to kill a few minutes go to the Giants website and have a look at the video with the players being told about Leon’s extension. Not much delight on the faces of some of the players - Cogs, Cameron. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but it kind of reflects the level of enthusiasm displayed on the field for the rest of the season.

On a brighter note, I’m with those who are bullish about the list and excited by StevieJ returning. Hopefully we look back at this year as an untimely blip and reset for a great club.

Given the way the Josh Kelly smoke dissipated in conjunction with the smoke around Cameron picking up, I kind of suspect that if Jeremy signed we would have been shipping Josh off to make room.

geee this trade period is a shambles. While I agree that we still have a great list the slow death of players gradually wanting out is horrific.
