It's very frustrating so far to see we seem to have no interest in recruiting a small forward.

Seems we are more interested in playing Eddie or playing a random developing mid out of position than actually recruiting a massive need.

Desperately hopping we recruit someone...

He's a better kick at goal than most if not all our forwards. Has speed and can catch it better than most. Just get behind him and hope he gets his fitness issues under control.
No doubt I want him to reach his potential ... and he is a great kick for goal ... I just don’t feel he is anywhere near H and Charlie levels ...

Damien Barrett saying the Dons are sniffing around Dow and LOB.

I’d be happy to send LOB to them with maybe a 3rd rounder for Saad, but if we let Dow go I’ll be pissed, the kid has something and I think it’s gonna click very soon.

Interested to see how the Saints would go about getting Jack Higgins, you’d think 15 would have to be a part of the deal with something back to them, but it’s increasingly likely 15 goes to the Crows when the match the Crouch bid.
Surely our pick 27 could get it done if he is willing to come this way.

Trade 7 for two later firsts, ideally imo for a 2020 and 2021 pick. I wonder if the Pies would be open to this for a 7 pick upgrade as their 2021 1st will be useless to them anyway once a bid comes on Nick Daicos?
If we could pull it off it gives us a bit of ammo to go out for a gun in next years trade period.

Eddie is already on 331

You're right; he isn't a CC or Harry. But as the 3rd prong in that mix, he likely doesn't have to be. Those three would be a bloody handful for the opposition defenders.

Lions are looking to create a 3 pronged forward setup; hence their pursuit of Daniher. We've already got three x-factor forwards in CC, Harry, and MCG yet some supporters are intent on getting rid of MCG. Freaky.
I think we could have a better forward and Ruck set-up without McGovern.

De Koning needs time to develop but imo showed he's in our best 22. I don't think he's ready to play as a full time ruckman and we need to protect him and not burn him out like we did with Kreuzer and the dogs are doing with English. I also believe he could develop into our best tall forward. If we play De Koning and McKay as our 2 key forwards (two 200cm plus key forwards will be very hard to defend) and Curnow as the 3rd. That'll stretch every defence in the competition. But we need to ensure that we have 3 high quality smalls to tackle and apply pressure when the ball hits the ground.

Except of course De Koning hasn't shown he can mark the ball in forward 50, when resting there. Contributes even less than McGovern at his most invisible.

Yes, you make a good point. D-Kone is a valid consideration in that mix.
I don't think it's necessarily one or the other. Big blokes are susceptible to injury. Moreover, MCG is a specialist forward, and often versatility can dilute effectiveness.

Fraser Turner has been delisted from Richmond, and is worthy of consideration. Needs a tiny bit of work on his ball drop, but knows how to use the footy and has a unique combination of running patterns, endurance and speed.

Pick Swaps
Pick 7 & 27 > Pick 11 & 18 Geelong
Pick 7 & 27 > Pick 16 & 17 Brisbane

I like Katmanblue's idea :thumbsu:

That would need to be 7+45 they need to pay overs to move up the draft order. Has been the case for almost every similar trade.

7+27 would mean we are losing out on points.

They won't match if it will get them pick 2. There is collusion and draft tampering going on.

Adelaide will take some players from StK to make cap room.

Similar players to Saad traded since 2016
2016
Brad Hill for pick 23
M. Hibberd and 59 for pick 29,68
2017
J.Impey for 34+ minor pick swaps
ADAM SAAD for future 2nd ended up pick 35
N.Wilson for future 2nd+ minor pick swaps
2019
Zac Jones for pick 32+ minor pick swaps

This clearly shows Adam Saad’s value is a 2nd round pick, pick 7 should not be involved in any way for Saad.

No splitting pick 7, pick 27 should be the main part of the deal plus minor upgrades elsewhere if required.
If pick 7 is used in anyway for Saad our list management team aren’t very good at their jobs.

My opinion only we are already making a mistake paying Zac Williams 750-800 thousand over 5 years, he has only one top 5 finish in a best and fairest, has shown no consistent ability to play midfield week in week out and to be brutally honest needs to shed some kgs and improve his running before even being considered for a midfield role.

To me it seems like we were so desperate to be seen as doing something and get someone to our club we panicked and offered everything we could to get him through the door.

Good post. To turn it round the other way, which players have been traded in the last few years for the equivalent of say pick 5-15?

Players traded for picks in that range tend to be complicated deals involving multiple picks, players such as Tom Mitchell, Prestia, Gibbs, Charlie Cameron, Neale, May and Shiel all players who I would rate a level well above Saad.

Charlie Cameron was for #12 straight up.
Mitchell + #57 for #14 + #52.

Both those players were worth more than Saad, although everyone at the time said Brisbane were over-paying for Cameron.

Imo Saad is probably more highly rated then Cameron when he left. I remember everyone thinking Brisbane got bent over and Cameron was contracted.

In the TAC De Koning kick 17 goals from 11 games.

But he's struggled so far in that role at senior level. I'm sure his marking will improve, and he'll be a decent resting ruckman in time. But he's not yet unfortunately. And I don't think we're good enough to park a non-contributor in our forward line. Despite his form and fitness issues, I still think McGovern is our best option for a 3rd tall forward. (Followed by SOJ and Kennedy.)

If 7 goes to Essendope for a half back Austin may as well resign on the spot.

Even if we got a 2nd rounder or 3rd rounder back I'd still say it's overs.

Trading Dow or LoB is also nuts. Would happily part with McGovern though.

Seriously Saad is out of contract. It's a late first at best if we can split pick 7 for two 1sts. If we can't it's pick 27 or see you in the PSD.

If Saad ends up elsewhere as a result so be it.
