Forget any delisted players we don’t need them hold on to who we have, depending on whether we trade down for a higher ND pick and only take the one or take two and possibly put a player onto the rookie list... Looking at all the clubs Academy and NGA possibilities our picks could turn into (38)29/30 and (48)36ish...

It's not what you said...

He will be passed over by 18 clubs, 18 sets of coaches, development coaches

They can't all be wrong
Fair enough, I'm clearly muddling the conversations we've had on this over the years. I still think he's worth having on the list, and I think his technique is workable by virtue of him being able bodied and having an interest in kicking a football.

It's absurd that you think a bloke who can dance around the way he does can't muster the coordination and body strength to kick a football cleanly on the run. I don't understand the kind of mental gymnastics involved that would lead a person to that kind of conclusion.

I'd go so far as to suggest that if he just hears these kinds of comments over and over again, it's likely dented his self-esteem enough for him to believe that he can't do anything about it. What a load of crap.

Off the list imo - Polson, Phillips, Owies and maybe Moore. We pick 1 player in the draft and promote honey and gibbons. Done.
Agree with 3 of the 4, but would like to see Phillips get another year, as he did not have much chance to prove himself this year, while the others have had a couple of years in the system..........Can the club go with 40 senior & 4 rookies under the new system?

What an odd post. Excuse the picking on it, but ultimately it comes down to; 'You don't see things the way I do, therefore your thinking is absurd' :)

We've done our dash for now, in picking up players that showed little elsewhere, but will 'somehow' show plenty with us. It's over for now and about time too.

No more Bugg...O'Shea...Smedts...Mullett...Shaw...Fasolo...I can keep going and going. What would we even want Patmore for? Another project? Forget it.

Jim, there is only so much you can do to improve a players flaws

Isn't it interesting reading all those posts from several years ago, our expectations on various kids, the list, and the view we had of our future. Maybe I'm just a weirdo but I think it's pretty cool.

Allows us to use three picks in the ND without delisting anyone else.

We likely don't need to use three picks in the ND

List is set bar maybe a Polson and Moore delisting with an incoming draftee. I'd be shocked if it was anything more

Although none of them really are A graders, I think we have enough mid-small forwards to last us in 2021. Martin, Fisher, Gibbons, Betts, Philp, Honey, Owies, Fogarty, Cuningham, Newnes (played on a forward flank at the end of the year). Obviously this is still a hole in our 22, but I think instead of getting these developing prospects in the drafts, we need a proven recruit through a trade next year.

I suggest trading our picks 38 + 48 for a mid 2nd rounder and for example the bulldogs at pick 26 who need points for their academy players. Then we use that pick 26 for a 3rd ruck. And who falls into the projected category of going a mid-late 2nd rounder? Our one and only Henry Walsh.

But, that's not all. I also suggest we look into Majak Daw who we could get for very cheap as a DFA. Our KPD stocks are worse than we think, with Weiters, Jones and Levi the only ones who I would trust to take on a Dixon or Hawkins type. Although he is 29 years old, Daw would bring some depth into that area which we are lacking in.

Next year, go hard at an elite outside runner like Josh Kelly or Zach Merrett. I'm hoping by then we also would've seen some great development of guys like Fogarty, Philp or Honey who would allow us to save some cap space in targeting a good small forward. Otherwise, we bring someone in through a trade.

Thoughts?

Without jumping too far forward, expect clubs to cut their lists deep at the end of 2021. Rumoured to be further reductions to list sizes plus a number of player who'll go undrafted this year into next year's draft.

I can't see anymore that Polson and Moore this year. With then 10 -12 on a knifes edge for 2021

Phillips was pushed into the backline by the end of the trial games. Agreed, would be harsh to be cut but we also need a position for him (hoping that our reserves keep some on for future development & chance).

As far as I’ve read it’s a MAX of 38 senior / 4 rookies / 2 Cat B’s with a MIN of 37 (must include 1 x rookie).

If we had have been able to sort our our forward fifty entries conversion into goals we would have won enough games to play finals. We aren’t far off at all, and I hope they spend a fair chunk of this off season looking at how to fix that.

there were many games we dominated possession and repeat I50s with little to no reward.

We are not far off guys and girls.

We are one of a few clubs that aren’t losing anything this off season but gaining substantially. If we can get lucky with a kid in the draft (hoping Austin has done a lot of work here) we could be very big risers in the ladder in 2021. Taking a risk on a quality 18 year old (one that was on the upward trend as a 17 year old) from Victoria is better than leaving them to play in the Vic leagues for another year and then getting drafted in the top 5 next season. Anyone with a few examples.
Edit:
Seamus Mitchell
Jack Ginnivan
Clayton Gay
Charlie Lazzaro
Sam Berry
Ryan Angwin
Will Papley (get the younger brother instead)
Harry Sharp
Zavier Maher

Getting Ryan Angwin would certainly raise eyebrows. Maybe even dilate some pupils...

AFL is already competing against rugby and soccer in non AFL states - reducing list sizes would be a retrograde step as far as developing the game in NSW and Queensland goes. The amount of had work NSW /Queensland CLubs have to do - just to get any interest from elite young athletes to play the game at junior level is an order of magnitude more difficult than in Vic/SA/WA.

Notice there is an Angwin on the list..."To be put on the 'Enhanced Due Diligence' pile please.

Sides like GC will still have more on their list than the majority of side

Although you point is spot on

What? Not how I see it.

We have 38 on the list now (with Gibbo being promoted). If you promote Honey, there'd be 39. You'd need to delist two of Kennedy, Polson or Macreadie.

Makes more sense to delist Polson. Keep Honey, Owies, Cottrell and Phillips on Rookie list

Would allow for 1 in ND and 1 in rookie draft.

That’s if they allow only the 1 pick in each. I was under the impression promoting honey in the draft allows us to use that pick which means we only need 1 more. Puts us up to 40. I thought 37 was a suggested minimum and 40 max. I’ve also suggested delisting Polson Phillips and Owies which puts us down to 36. We then Promote honey and pick another player in the ND one in the rookie draft. That makes it 3 if they ask us to.

When you get any opportunity to get a Seamus on the list, you take it.

Drawing up a squad that has at least five years left in them.
Come next year we should start planning to find eventual replacements, although we may well have some ready to go in a year or two.
It's just my current assessment and of course, things will change as we go along.

Docherty ****** Plowman
Saad Weitering Marchbank...........Clearly need a full back

De Koning Setterfield Walsh
Williams Cripps Williamson

Martin McKay Petrevski-Seton
McGovern CCurnow ******.........May require a smart crumber

Fisher Kemp ****** ******........One will be a back-up ruck/forward. The other, a mid we already have.

Possibilities for that starting 22; Philp, Dow, Honey, Cottrell & Fogarty.
Players I'm just not sure of; Cuningham, JSilvagni, O'Brien & Stocker, Would be great for one or two to really shoot up the rankings.
If we don't do much more this year, next year we'll have to be on the hunt for a; 1. KPD.....2. Ruck/Forward.....3. Goal-kicking small.....4. Quality mid.

We may be able o hit all those targets in next years trade period alone, if the mid happens to be Merrett as a FA.
Not far away from having a serious team now - Development, Continuity, Lack of Injury and a suitable game plan.

He’s seriously under-utilised along with Fisher and SPS, ffs give them greater midfield rotations add Williams and Dow they all give us the speed & spread difference...
Cripps Setterfield Walsh Williams Cunners SPS Fisher Curnow Dow Martin JSOS and the King...
I’d love to see Cunners take another step forward in endurance in the off season.

Then happy to back Arrow’s call to have him tag in midfield. Anyhting to have him in there and learning.
