Rioli Jnr will cost more than a rookie spot, probably a lot more. The name alone causes uncontrolled salivation in the football world. Since every pick beyond a certain point is a lottery, who wouldn’t gamble on a Rioli? Personally I will be very, very happy if all we have pay is a pick in the 40s.
Freo will keep us honest.

True but no one else is either. Soldo is a decent honest competent performer who is still learning his craft and that's not a bad thing either. I'm just saying that his body appears to be more robust than Nank's at the moment, therefore making him the more vulnerable of the two rucks. And that if CCJ gets a crack because of a Nank injury and nails it, Soldo has some decent performance credits to fall back on should the conversation track towards dropping him for a returning Nank.

Soldo is a much better tap ruck than anyone else we have. And he is able to use his size and strength to the team's advantage in stoppages. Both of which leads to our midfield being better at stoppages with him. Basically he steps our midfield up a notch in that one aspect of the game.

He's not so good around he ground. But he's improved hugely. He can take a mark, kicks OK if given time and knows to hand it off.

So long as we can top and tail him with a more mobile ruck we've got a good thing. And cheap too.

So long as he is not American Nicholas will do ok , We have not had a Cox at Richmond from what i can remember

Can someone tell me, what is the go? He is contracted for 2 more years, but retires. Atm, his salary counts regardless I assume. Do we work out a payment the gets the AFL tick of approval for a reduced amount and create space?

Someone with a keen interest in this area please enlighten me.

Cheers

Yeah, I assume he retires Rance forgoes the payments. What happens with the cap and does that mean Rance is not linked to RFC in 2020?

I am going to come from a RFC selfish point of view, I would rather Rance was at least linked to RFC in 2020 but I am not sure how the system works

The club will need to come to a settlement agreement with Rance. If his contract was heavily front loaded Rance may need to compensate the club. If his contract was back loaded then the opposite. All of it would need to be ticked off by the AFL and the PA but either way being a top 3 player at the club his exit will leave a nice chunk of cash available for the next off season.

I agree, we lose out big time at the moment regarding the timing of his decision but going forward Rance has done us a huge favor and has given us the available space to try and keep all our young emerging talent.

So any suburban 194cm+ backs running around pre-season who feel they've been harshly dealt with one draft night, I suggest you get down to Punt Rd. this evening.

Would have been handy to know he was going to do this before the trade period. They will shift some contracts around and pay guys more now next year. Should have some cap space for some acquisitions next trade/FA period.
the c.e.o didn't seem overly concerned in the interview i heard. the club has been factoring in this possibility for some time. i'm sure we have plans.

So long as the 2019 best defense in the AFL keeps on keeping on we're fine. And this allows us to reload next year.

It'll be interesting to see if we pick someone up like Stack.

We need to target a key back or we could well be in the shite.
It's the one area we don't have much depth.
I was also hoping Garth would come on quicker but I'm not sure now.

We have been planning this since the last contract. Everyone involved at the club KNEW this would be Rance's last contract. So they would have been preparing for this ever since he did his ACL. We will have a plan in place.

We are keeping him on the list this year in hopes he comes back refreshed from a year's break. If not, we can then move him off the books and focus on a free agent/trade/draft target.
