I get the off field leadership we need. But we aren't exactly bursting with small forwards. Could have had both.

Butler didn't cost nothing. He cost a draft pick and a salary.

He chose St Kilda. Maybe that's because they're more advanced than us, maybe that's because they offered him a better contract.

The constant whinging about missing out on him whenever he bobs up in the goal square to finish off his team's good work is nauseating. He's a good footballer; there are plenty of them in the league.

Saints weren't top 4 when he made the decision. So there is no chance that is what his decision was based on. He may have rated their list higher though.

Bottom line is you can't get everyone.

Butler is a good solid footballer flourishing early at a new club that is perfect for him...for now.

We had bigger misses over the past few years than Butler, we have attracted better footballers to the club than Butler, and we are in a position to do so again in the coming years.

I really wish we'd just let it go.

If Eddie wants to show on field leadership, he should be hitting the fall of the ball at the marking contest, at speed, facing the goals, not constantly skunking out the back for a cheapie

We won’t get Papley. That “ship” has sailed. Not that there was ever any real chance of getting him given that we were relying on Dodoro and Essendope being sensible. All the more reason why we should’ve pressed harder for Butler.

we might have beaten Melbourne and Port if he’d displayed some of his magic in a tight contest.
