Disciplined and elite runner.

I'd personally look to develop him more so as a lock down small back to play on those dangerous small forwards.

Id then have Jack play the accountable role on the modern day mids who are all a bit bigger of a body.

Jack then offers more offensively to ensure those players are accountable themselves going the other way
I reckon Cottrell could well develop into a hard running tagger in the EC mould.

Somewhat list management related but more draft. I think we really need to draft a Ruckman to develop.

Anyone know where Henry Walsh is a chance of going as in draft range? I know he had some solid games last year and trained with us.

Fisher kicks multiple goals for the first time in four years of AFL football and we have solved our small forward problem.

in all seriousness I couldn’t have loved his game much more but like a lot have been saying all year he should be playing half forward pushing up around the contests and getting back to those congested forward areas. That’s where he does his best work imo. He has always been great on the edges of contests and a huge amount of that happens in the forward 50 now so is perfect for him.
I don’t think it solves our problem down there though. The difference between guys like him bobbing up and kicking a few compared to Papley, Cameron, Rankine, Betts ect is that those other guys have an equivalent of a tagger on them. That’s why they are so important, they not only bolster your side but also throw the other side out abit.

also that’s not Fishers first time playing forward, he was doing it at the back end of last year with very little success. That’s when people were wondering why he has gone backwards so much as a footballer, so it’ll be very interesting watching him for the rest of the season.

TDK showed enough yesterday to get a decent run as the 1st ruck

really need Marchbank to get back and Plowman out ... every week the opposition plays through him !!
Marchbank imo should be a better player then Plowman but if I was an opposition coach I would be playing through Marchbank’s man ever day of the week over Plowman’s.

Whately on SEN suggesting last nights Melb V Kangas game proved that Brayshaw & Viney can not play in the same midfield, and one will need to leave at seasons end for them all to flourish..

What would we be prepared to give up for Brayshaw.. For me looking at their needs, they need an additional forward to support Weiderman.. So perhaps 2 x first round picks + McGovern.. with a 2nd coming back..

Surely Dow comes in. His pace is a point of difference. Hopefully his confidence is up after some good form vfl (it whatever it is) level.

interesting if they bring in Philp or Honey for Martin. Both are obviously close.

Freo and Gold Coast next 2 weeks. Win both and we’re back in the hunt.
We still play Adel and Syd, and I reckon we can beat either Collingwood or GWS.
Brisbane will be tough but who knows.
Getting close to, or even making finals would be massive.
We’re well ahead of where we were last year. Let’s not forget that.

I’m confident we can fix the runs against us, but to be fair, most teams have had runs against them this year. It’s an old cliche, but we just need to be better for longer. It will come

Two first round picks and McGovern...for Brayshaw???

Horrible value aside, he's one concussion away from hanging them up.

Jones has weaknesses that inhibit carlton making finals. The brainfades and his age mean we should plan to move beyond him
If Macreadie can string together some games we may well be in a position to but atm we lack the coverage of KPD.
Atm I'd say that Simmo & Doc are closer to being dropped than LJ.

Good point. :thumbsu:

We have too many talls.

What can we say, SOS knows how to pick em.

It was always going to be a problem; you pick a few to maximise your chances of getting it right, and then you delist/trade the ones that are surplus. Only problem for us is, most of our talls are coming good at the right time; no-one (except Jabba73) could've predicted Casboult's renaissance; no-one knew Jones would turn it so completely around to the extent he has; no-one knew Macreadie and Marchbank would spend so much time in rehab. The KPF's look pretty solid, too; we've only delisted one (Kerr) with both Harry and Charlie showing plenty. Gov is a medium that plays tall; Cas only has 2-5 years left; TDK is looking promising if given time to grow into that frame.

I'd be looking to find what we could get for Jones, and look to seeing who from the next tier (Goddard, Marchbank, Macreadie) should take his position of second KPD/intercept off him. It could require a rotation of roles, up to and including playing an extra behind the ball, but we probably need to look at defensive options like that anyway given how we play. Essentially, BSOS and Macreadie have the ground to make up, and both would have legitimate claims to being hard done by if they get delisted, and we would not get what they're worth on a trade.

We need to look at midfield options from clubs that need a player like Jones. Sydney could do with him, the Dogs - ironically enough - could do with him, Adelaide could do with him.

Some very tough talks are going to need to be had with some of our heart and soul players between now and the end of the year..

We have Kruezar, Murphy, Simmo & Betts all out of contract and to be fair only Simmo is currently in reasonable form but will be 37 this time next year.. Eddie has provided a spark in the fwd line and the games we have won have been off the back of his brilliance and Murphy continues to accumulate without really having any impact on the game. The form of TDK and Pittonet make MK unnecessary..

Can we let all go at once.. does this provide the clean air for the side to become Cripps and Dochs to lead towards success or does chucking out that much experience hurt us...

To be fair, been on the Casboult wagon for so long, was starting to wonder if it was the wrong one or I was seeing things that weren’t there. Been labelling him the second best ruck/forward behind Roughead for more than half a decade. Should never be the sole tall forward.

Has always had the heart, ruckwork and the marking, finally got the right pieces around him to take advantage of his strengths. Being a bit lighter and fitter helps him stay dangerous for longer.

So glad the big fella is getting recognition for his improvement.

The form of TDK and Pittonet make MK unnecessary..

Don’t agree with this part. Can’t go into a season with only 2 legitimate rucks. So if Kreuzer goes, we either have to spend big on a number 1 ruck ahead of TDK and Pitt, or find another mature ruck who’s happy to play 2s.

If he recovers from injury, I think we’re better off giving him another year.

I am not sure about that. TDK will be 22 and Pittonet 25.. They are young for ruckmen but this year has shown they are more than capable of playing at the level. IMO Pittonet will be the #1 whilst TDK develops more of his forward craft but is a more than capable to step in should Pittonet get injured or need a rest.. We then still have Levi and Harry McKay should things go real bad.. and Jones who has shown he isnt scared to have a go when needed.

We would prob then draft an extra ruck to develop and help out in the ants.
