Two words: Andrew. Russell.

Also Freo are notorious for having a poor medical staff, so maybe a change of clubs is what he needs?

EDIT: If that's the case we should immediately stop chasing Williams and B. Crouch, they get injured all the time. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and make these risky acquisitions to win a flag.

Williams is one year older and has played 107 games. He’s no Crouch or Pearce. Let’s get Pearce, if he’s cheap, alert is not an issue.

I think people need to stop with this line of thinking that Russell is a god, its Not like we are or have had a good injury run with him at the helm.

Yes some of them have been good. I'm not saying don't chase Zac Williams, just worried the club will overpay like we have in the past for GWS players like Jaksch.

I'd personally prefer Papley though. Not sure why Williams is seen as a future wingman, while Papley who has surely played more games on the wing and in the centre is 'just a small forward'.
Oh please dont bring up Jaksch, you'll give me nightmares!
I dont see Williams as a wingman. I see him as a starting midfielder alongside Cripps and Walsh. I'd like to see us bring in Williams and Papley, plus a few more like Petruccelle.

Would be incredible, not sure how we find the cap space & currency to make it happen though.

Well apparently we have a "war chest" but I see what you mean. Williams and Papley would be on healthy contracts but I feel like we have the space to fit them. Petruccelle wouldn't command much. But I guess we have to sign from within as well.
Will be interesting to see how we handle it. I just hope we are able to land a "big fish" after failing to do so over the last few years.

As for currency. Williams is a free agent, so we can get him without giving anything up. Just hope GWS dont match because that would stuff us. Papley will cost two 1sts because of his contract and form. Petruccelle would cost a 2nd or so, I dont think west coast could ask for much more considering he hasn't played inm a while.

Considering the rumour of 35 list spots and us having 40 on the senior list with 47 total (rookies). If the number is a hard 35 including rookies that would mean we have to cut around 15 players from our list to allow for draftees.

Surely that cannot be right? Maybe 35 on the senior list a 5 rookies allowed?

Experienced so called defensive wingers are supposed to, you know, provide defensive coverage for when your mids get turned over. Newnes and the current version of Murphy are not AFL wingers bootlaces imo. We're getting nothing out of our wings, minimal offense and minimal defense. And neither has an upside.

7 games , at most, left for them hopefully.
They aren’t much chop but I Smith and Polec are the only two wingers who have had really good games against us and Polec played through the midfield. i could name about 20 midfielders who have had really good games against us.
Murphy is very poor defensively but I couldn’t really fault Walsh or Newnes tbh. When the midfield is so outgunned most weeks it’s going to make everyone else look worse then they are.

The big fish we need to secure wears #9 for us

GWS can't match. That's why he gets squeezed out.

Would you consider looking at Jake Kelly from Adelaide? Out of favour and can play tall and small. Would give us more depth and again, could be very cheap. I'd love to see Williams in the guts as well. So much pace and class. Getting Saad would just be amazing as well!

I'd definitely take a good look if it allowed us to release SPS further up the ground.

Seems like a pretty easy way of making our side better :)

Has been the rumour since about April, been in the Sun and The Age etc.

Clubs are pushing back. Gold Coast have 51 on their list atm most clubs are around 45.

That was a long time ago, I wouldn't put any stock in it at all.
A much more recent rumour (on SEN, claiming multiple sources) was that TPP wouldn't be cut at all for 2021.

Lists may end up being cut, but it won't be 35.

yeh they would be absolutely mad to trade him unless they are getting a very good player back or at least a pick inside 15. The only reason they would give him up otherwise is if they think his ankle is shot

Nope. I think it's partially because they've committed so heavily to Hogan that something needs to shake loose, especially with the emergence of Brennan Cox as a KPD.

Cox, Hamling, Pearce, Logue and now Hogan. You can't fit them all in.

Have a look at our injury list this year, not sure Andrew Russell is everything the club makes him out to be. Big name appointment by the club on huge money.

If we want Pearce, I think we have to give up Fisher.

Straight swap.

Is it worth it?

Comes down to the dynamics of the trade.

If clubs approach Pearce in an attempt to extract him from the Dockers, then yes, you may need to offer up a player in the trade.

If, however, the Dockers place him on the trade table, draft picks would be sufficient.

The latter scenario appears most likely at the moment.

Also, there has been no mention of specific clubs targeting Pearce. It was brought up in the media that he could a player be up for trade should the Dockers choose to go down that path.

Isn't Walsh playing on the wing?
