Well behind on here but would we be happy to look at Sydney Stack at the right price & reduced trade value (Eddie mentor)? Even Coleman-Jones if ousted, both positions in need.
Sure they’ll be out to make amends & redeem from their blue.

No thanks, I'm not usually one to join in on the "no dickheads" policy, but I believe with something this egregious that he's not worth the risk.

What part of Dows game makes you want me to be patient with? Is is the fact that he's one positional player. Or is it the fact that he can't kick? Or is it the fact he has no tank?

He's a bust.

It’s the fact that he was pick 3 and no one can see past that 😂

If we are allowing doubleteams thats more on our structures and positioning

Exactly.

Even Eddie, who is meant to be our experienced head in the forward line, cut in front of H. Jack Martin has been guilty of it too. These guys should be staying down.

You don't get this with Gov. You will very rarely see him near the other forwards. I think he is one of our smartest forwards. He often leads his defender away making space for Levi and H.

It was brought up when Mark Ricciuto was discussing the departures of players from Adelaide a while back.

Young took exception to Ricciuto's comments on Wednesday, particularly those about McGovern, in which Ricciuto said: "He's [McGovern's] got what we want, we love people that contest in the forward line and [have] got plenty of speed – we need speed in the forward line – but, once again, [at] 800-and-something thousand [dollars]. Has he delivered for Carlton yet? No. [We're] comfortable that he went."

You are believing Ricciuto? Yikes.

But we don’t often see it, in his first year and to an extent last year we saw those traits. Guy seems devoid of all confidence. I’ve just about put him in the too hard basket. Upside could be huge but so many deficiencies. How can an AFL player miss a target by 15 metres from 30-35 metres away? Every player shanks the odd one but it’s reversion to the mean for Paddy.

On top of that are the endurance issues even Russell will have a hard time rectifying this. It’s a lot of areas he needs to overcome. Confidence, disposal, decision making, endurance. Love for him to prove us all wrong but the odds are against it imo
You start with his endurance. That’s why he is looking so bad atm. He seems incapable of even putting in the minimum effort. All he has to do is chase harder and we can actually justify playing him. He would also find more ball and hopefully gain confidence. Until he builds his running capability he has no chance.

Dow needs to hire himself a running coach and take this offseason very very seriously. He needs to proactively go out and improve his fitness before preseason starts
Good call. Just needs to improve his fitness, amongst other areas of his game. He looks like he is running with cement in his boots

Like I said earlier in this thread, part of the issue is that we're parking him forward again. He had 3 centre bounce attendances against GWS. What's the point of playing him then? Would rather him playing full time mid in the 2's and getting some confidence up than stranding him in a forward pocket meaning he can't play to his strengths.

This is part of the big problem with Dow. He hasn't shown anything anywhere else of the ground accept for the midfield. Problem is, when he does manage to find it he usually gives it back to the opposition. If he wants to succeed at AFL level he needs to be able to compete in more than one position on the ground.

And whilst he's at it, maybe he can get in touch with Craig Bradley and learn how the kick the thing as well.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head!

Rewind 5 years and that what Crippa did.
It helped his game massively.

Cripps’s disposal isn’t that much better than Dows although it’s improved each year (not set shots)

Dow has bulked up which may have impacted his endurance, it’s something he needs to work on if he’s to become best 22

He's a bust.

He's a 20 year old kid who has played some good senior footy already, but who has recently been shuffled around on the field and struggled through a few injuries.

He may not make it but at this stage he is absolutely not a bust. He's a young developing kid.

I really hope the AFL do provide list sizes ASAP. Say they do reduce by 5, would be really good to see the players on the fringe get a game to earn a spot.

Any reduction to the list size could mean in the ballpark of 10 changes at season end when you factor in the draft.

We are talking about Mitch vs JSOS here

If they do reduce sizes then I think they also have to reduce the 3 pick minimum (inc rookie upgrade). Maybe it goes to 2 required picks, we upgrade Gibbons to the senior list and take 1 pick.

That's not going to happen now, is it?

Stack will sound down with Balme and they'll sort things out. A heart Balm.

Would really hope so. Will be interesting what we do with players who have injury issues, if the AFL cut too deep can you justify keeping someone like Kruzer on the list? :(

Feels like hard times ahead still.

3 - Dow
4 - LDu
5- Cerra
6 - Stephenson
7 - Hunter Clark
8 - Coffield
9 - Naughton
10 - Lachie O'brien

I remember this draft, and being super keen on LDU who is probably ended up a bigger bust than Dow.. With the exception of Naughton, none of these players are setting the world on fire.. and with McKay & Charlie Curnow its understandable why we didnt take Naughton.. I just think this is a pretty ordinary draft year and Paddy is being unfairly judged based on draft position.

FWIW i would give him a role to play in the midfield every game for the rest of the year, and if he comes on excellent and if he doesnt we cut our losses and look for another opportunity for him, we should be able to get an early second round pick, or potentially say Geelongs first for a swap of our 2nd, which might help us land Papley or Williams.
