If Kreuz is now retired, really hope we keep enough draft currency to get the young Walsh.

Will be a project and take a couple of years but if he has the tenacity of his brother he could be a great complement to TDK and Pitto.
Is Walsh's brother available to be drafted end of this year? What's he like as a ruckman?

Stamos, be clear, pick 40 was not the crucial aspect of the trade, those points could have been obtained any number of ways

That's wrong. 26, 28, 40.
40 is obviously the least of the 3 parts, but it's still significant. The three picks together are worth #6 in points. There wasn't a feasible way for us to get a trade done for #13, without not getting Setterfield, and even if we did, we obviously would have taken Stocker with the pick anyway.

Argue all you like about whether we should have taken McGovern, or what else we could have done with #26 and #28, and our draft rights to a mature player (worth a 3rd rounder), but getting #13, or a similarly high pick, was not an option.

Stamos, don't be so closed to the multitude of possibilities

Finding pick 40 value of points is easy, especially when you can trade future picks to current year and or exchanging a number of picks in the same round over 2 years

If SOS or any other recruiter believed there was a player at that range, that was worthwhile, then there is no reason it was an impossible task

Kreuzer pulled the trigger at just the right time....as we knew he would. Classy.
TDK now knows he's 'the one' I trust he'll take that on board with plenty of hard work through the off-season.

I’d give our first round pick for saad. Seems like he may be gettable

First rounder for Saad? God no.
He is a type we need.....but for me....not exactly the right type.
I want someone who works harder, the harder it gets. This is not Saad.

Why is he leaving Essendon. Is it money or is it getting a bit tough for him now that the bombers are struggling.

Seems like he chose to join them as he thought they were on the up but now he wants out because its not going to plan.

Firstly, it's not only about points, it's about usable points. Nobody wants the 8 picks from 65-72.

And fine, show us how we could have traded our picks in order to make acceptable trade to Sydney for #13?

Stamos, start with the 2 picks we used for McGovern, the rest would be fairly simple

Here's the thing re the McGovern trade -

It's clear that even if we had somehow acquired that #13 from Sydney, it would have been handed over for Stocker.
We then would have had our own pick being what turned out to be #4 in last years draft.
One can then work out what we may have ultimately done.

So in summary: We don't have McGovern, still have Stocker + McAdam and maybe don't have Kemp + Philp for taking *******

Yep, assuming the highly improbable happened, no Gov, no Kemp, no Philp, perhaps Papley, or otherwise Young.

McGovern hasn't been great to date and I understand the discussion, but as things panned out - We really didn't pay that much for him.

McGovern still has plenty to offer the way I see things. For whatever reason, he's just not impacting right now.
No marking....No chase-downs....few possessions...and next to no goals. Only way is up :)

When I work it out, it comes up as not happening.
Seeing as you argue it was possible, why don't you show us how?

You could of even traded for Crows pick 40 by using an exchange of future pick in the same round

Go back to the last day of trade in that year and the subsequent pick swaps prior to the draft. There are a multitude of options to gain points

Will there be a suitor for McGovern... Everyone else has watched exactly what we have seen, why would anyone else want him?? Doubt we delist him, but might offer him a very reduced contract and with no guarantees of playing.. Would then be totally in his hands how much he wants to work for it.

Agree Harks. For those calling for a trade or assessing value in a trade, he is s free agent. He can go where he likes and we can smile and apply for (minimal) compo,

he definitely deserves a reduced contract. On his performance over the last 2 years it should be a significant reduction too. My gut feel is that he won't take it well.

OK, so you think Adelaide would have traded us #40 for our future 3rd?

I think that is highly unlikely, and as mentioned multiple times, would have left us with no picks between our 1st and our 5th in 2019.

Im wary of Shiel trying a similar tactic. They can both rot there. Seems at times that Dodo's one strategy during trade week is to **** up our plans even if doing so comes at the detriment of *'s list.

Stamos, if we didn't trade for Gov, what do you think McAdam was worth? Pick 40 perhaps? Highlighted mid 2018 as to the value of McAdam. The other scenarios would have been trading with other teams, WC wanted points for Cameron, Dogs had some picks in that range

Serious it would have been a no brainer to get it done

So he has been on $700k the past 2 years... We offer him $300k on 1 year with some incentives... That is still a lot of cash and I seriously doubt anyone else is offering him anymore, he may go to the pre season draft but again I am not convinced anyone else would be interested, perhaps Essendon trying to replace Daniher or Collingwood to replace Mason Cox.. But no one is paying top $ for Gov anymore.

The initial argument was that we would keep McAdam. I agree, we could have used the mature player access to gain the currency.

In that case, we're down McGovern and a 2019 3rd (which was used to help facilitate the Pitto trade), but go into 2019 with #4 (so maybe that helps get us Papley, +?, or Swans still say no and we get Young instead of Kemp and Philp).
