They did and that just shows how foolish it is to give away multiple high value assets. Lucky they did somewhat rectify they situation when they traded him
He was a huge driver of their improvement and who knows the fact he was their and them improving might have improved their culture and made players like Cameron and Neale even consider their club. They also had to trade two firsts to get the picks for Neale they just managed it in a way that worked for them.

Beams certainly helped make them more competitive early on, but so far, we currently seem to be on a similar/better timeline

I wouldn't go as far to say that he helped improve the culture, but perhaps he did play a positive role

LOB is high end talent, why would we move him on if he hasn't reached maturity, nor an understanding as to why he is not currently in the side

We cans till target/obtain the likes of Papley without fracturing the group of these future core players
Ok but Lions fans could have said the same about Schache at the time could they not.

I think it's a bit much to suggest it will fracture the group given players and mates depart every year.

LOB wouldn't be at the top of my list, but I don't think potential for success is tied to his retention.

Schache is a unique situation, like Balic doesn't seem like he has ever loved the game. When you add all the first round selections of 2 rebuilding clubs in Tigers and Lions, 19 odd years worth, only one player could be considered best 22 at another club that departed, prior to team success, Aish. If its comes down to poor talent ID or development, so be it, uncontrollable

As I said at the start, no issue with players wanting to be traded, I just wouldn't force a trade

I don't think HARKER was suggesting a forced trade, but yes I don't think you'd find many Perth supporters who don't strongly agree with this.

Just the way I see it but Brisbane have given up two firsts to get Neale, Collingwood Beams and Treloar, West Coast Kelly, I think GWS did for Taranto and I’m sure there are other examples of successful teams doing it to trade up in the draft. I just don’t see it as much of an issue if you get what you want. If you are getting a second back then asset wise in our situation I think it’s not really much of a risk at all.
I don’t see it anymore risky then taking our two pick ones to the draft rather then trading down for instance.

You might have a gripe with the journalist...my post is based on his article, which basically made me come to the conclusion SoS towed the line on trade targets, so blame others for not recruiting butler
The journo didn't make any of the points that you've taken from the article, which was more or less repeating what was already known and discussed to death over the last ~10 months.

My take away is that you're looking for justification to shift blame away from Silvagni for something that nobody is actually blaming him for, we preferenced Betts & Papley over Butler, you'd think that most at the time would have made the same decision - the only thing that has called that into question is that Butler has pulled a finger out and is presently playing at a level that many thought he was incapable.
It happens.

Does anyone know the talk about fisher wanting to go back to WA. Is it all Talk?

Keep the draft pick and draft someone with athleticism to go in the backline and go for williams. Thats about it we dont need much just fix the pace in the defence and sort out our injuries to our forwards

Club saying not too many list changes this year. Probably looking at 5-6 changes to the list. I’d think those in the gun would come from the following:

Lang
Goddard
Moore
Finbar
A rookie
Ben Silvagni
Macreadie
Polson
Maybe Eddie (age)
Maybe Simmo (age)

Macreadie, BSOS and Polson probably given another year.

It’s only taken our coaches four years to work out we have a small forward on our list in Fisher. Get his pressure acts up and I think will have a very good small forward.

He was sensational in the first half when the supply was decent.

It's becoming clearer that our priorities are one more high quality midfielder and one running defender.
