Round 7, 2017 against Collingwood. That was - in some ways - a better performance from fewer possessions. Made kicks and hit handpasses that no-one should be able to find a target. Clearly best afield. He's played other games in similar fashion, but none quite so good.People banging on about SPS being played out of position and needing to go in the middle can any of you tell me apart the doggies game last year where he dominated or played well regularly in that position? If not I suggest we move on from the discussion and realise he just might not be as good as we hoped he would be.
What's he responsible for
If you want can look up the players the dogs got between 06-08 and 18-19, the Tigers 12-18 and Port 09-11.“ https://www.carltonfc.com.au/news/557640/carlton-welcomes-austin-as-head-of-list-management” said:Austin arrives at Ikon Park from the Whitten Oval, where he had two stints (2006-2008 and 2018–present), most recently as the Bulldogs’ National Recruiting Manager.
In between his time at the Dogs, Austin played a pivotal role in building the Richmond premiership list as the Tigers’ List Management and Recruiting Officer from 2012-2018.
He was also the recruiting officer and opposition analyst at Port Adelaide from 2009-2011.
This is exactly what I was thinking when heard it from TeagueI think the worry is for a guy like Fish...Teague said in his pre-game last week that Fish wasn't happy being told he would be played as a forward...whilst he also said that he turned that attitude around, if Fish genuinely wants to be a mid, and we don't want him as a mid, there will be a number of clubs that would promise him his desired positional change I would have thought...
But you are right that we have bigger fish to fry (pun intended)...

My favourite rampaging sainter nut job Facebook page has said we are interested with Collingwood youngster Nathan Murphy. Anyone know much about him?
Why?Papley is an out an out star of the league. We just have to get him! Mere stats do not show his impact on games. His presence, follow work, pressure etc has destroyed GWS tonight. Unlucky not to have 3 goals.
If I have to watch him tear it up play for another team over the next ten years knowing that we missed our chance.... it will feel like Eddie Betts or Josh Kennedy all over again
This years 1st and a 3rd will get it done. Papley and Sydney would have had a discussion last year after the trade didn't go through. Papley is an ultimate professional in 2020 and Sydney will release him from his contract. A pick 4-6 plus a 3rd is sufficientWhy?
He's not our player. The opportunity may well have passed us. He clearly still wants to come back to Victoria; there is but a single reason Sydney are trying to direct every single entry they have through a small forward, regardless of his skill level.
This isn't a situation in which we don't know what we had until it left, because he was never ours to begin with. There is no sliding doors here.

Bang for buck, would take Rowbottom over Papley right now

I'm not confident we'll get him, but I desperately hope Papley is doing for the Swans what Gibbs did for us.
Request a trade, return to the club and put in a career year, and then request a trade again at the end of the season.
This is dumb.
Here are some players, their height and their weight:
Dion Prestia: 175cm, 82kg.
Trent Cotchin: 182cm, 86cm
Jack Viney: 178cm, 84kg
Tim Kelly: 182cm, 81kg
Josh P. Kennedy: 189cm, 97kg
Steele Sidebottom: 184cm, 85kg
Luke Shuey: 183cm, 90kg
Taylor Adams:181cm, 83kg
Shaun Burgoyne: 186cm, 89kg
Dylan Shiel: 182cm, 83kg
SPS is 182cm, and 78kg. He has spent his entire ******* career except for right ******* now as a midfielder. He was recruited as a midfielder, has played exceptional games at AFL level as a midfielder.
So, what is the key difference you're seeing here? It's pretty ******* clear: all of these older, more established midfielders are much, much heavier. Viney is 4cm shorter, and 6 kg heavier. Shuey is a cm taller, and is 12kg heavier. The question becomes, why is this so? Is it merely the effects of time?
Harry Perryman: 184cm, 80kg
Oliver Florent: 185cm, 81kg
Jack Bowes: 187cm, 85kg
Will Brodie: 189cm, 89kg
Jack Scrimshaw: 193cm, 88kg
Tim Taranto: 187cm, 87kg
Will Setterfield: 192cm, 87kg
These are the midfielders from the same draft. Some have only played as flankers to this point, some have taken their place as full time mids; what's the difference, you ask? The players who have taken on full time midfielder roles - Taranto, Brodie, Florent - have achieved AFL midfielder weight ranges. SPS hasn't.
We knew this was an issue, given we went for no taller/bulkier mids other than Matt Kennedy (190cm, 88kg) and Setterfield, and it's only very recently those players have started demonstrating their quality. There's also the fact ably demonstrated by GWS that when you cause players to bulk up quickly, you get soft tissue injuries; I'd be interested in hearing from someone with expertise in this area, as I am not an expert and could be confusing correlation with causation.
SPS can tackle, and he can find his own ball. He is an AFL quality first or second ring midfielder; someone who can get their own ball, but is just as useful on the fringes of a stoppage to either receive the ball or to distribute it. What we need from him is for him to put on some more muscle to allow him to get stronger, and for Teague to move him back into the midfield, either in the seconds or in the ones; I do not care which.
i don’t really like this comparison haha
I think they're angling to try and sell him to the highest bidding Melbourne club, of which we are only one. Think about how he'd sit in Geelong's forward half, WB's forward half. This years 1st and a 3rd will get it done.
