I understand fully what a rebuild is. In the last 15 years we've attempted two of them with little success outside of one season.

I'm not sure you do, seeing as though you said we've been rebuilding for 15+ years.

This rebuild started in 2015. That's pretty widely accepted but I guess there are always some who prefer to ignore the facts when pushing an agenda.

One rebuild started in 2015, the other rebuild resulted in one year of success then it started falling apart again.

Rebuilds are supposed to lead to sustained success. So going through one rebuild for one decent season before the need for another rebuild was needed not long after didn't feel like the rebuild ever stopped.

We played finals 3 years in a row, missed a year when we were destroyed by injuries, and then played finals again. I doubt you'll find anyone who thinks our list management was any good prior to SOS coming in in 2015, but it clearly wasn't one continuous rebuild.

And to your point that other clubs start their rebuild after us and have gone past us, it is clearly wrong. Not a matter of opinion, just straight fact that your claim is wrong.

And other teams started behind our rebuild, did their own rebuilds and passed us.

If you can't understand that we only truly embraced a rebuild/draft at the end of 2015, then you must of misread the period prior

We were the last of the rebuilding sides

Now Adelaide and North start theirs, it is fairly simple to understand

Even prior to 2015, club has always stated "Carlton don't rebuild:

That the prevailing justification for keeping Dow is him being 20, rather than demonstrated form, says a lot.

In 3 years I cannot recall an instance of Dow using his burst of speed to chase down and tackle the opposition. There is no excuse, age or otherwise, for there not to be numerous examples. That is why I'm confident Dow is not worth holding onto, irrespective of him being able to carve out a career.
Harsh, but true enough.

Sorry I haven’t been keeping up with this thread. Has Rory Laird been discussed as a trade target? Think he would brilliant in our back line, 28 next year, Teague connection, Crows are rebuilding & he might be looking for a change of scenery...

Unfortunately the vast majority of discussion is about Tom Papley.

Would be a good get for the right price

Has now shown he can play as a mid too

No facts, just opinions.

No, it is a fact we started a rebuild in 2015 with SOS at the helm.

It is also a fact we haven't been rebuilding for 15+ years. That's just a tired line rolled out by people who don't understand what they're talking about.

I think trying to grab a bargain player from Melb, Nth, Adel, Hawks etc. is where there is great opportunity. Papley and Williams are so heavily discussed by the media, we will end up paying overs.
I want more steals like the Martin hijack!
You look at Scrimshaw and Rohan trades, Hawks and Cats got them for next to nothing, both playing well

You are mod, just ban him, he is a troll, I don't want to read 5 pages of this shit.

Did you miss the part where there was two rebuilds? We had a crack at winning it all, came reasonably close one year, realised our window was closed and started another one. That's just smart list management, regardless of the results of the rebuild. Would you rather in 2015 SOS deciding to not rebuild and try and win with the list we had? C'mon man, we'd be worse off than if we hadn't tried another one.

Also what teams are you talking about that started behind our rebuild and then passed us?

To be fair, regardless of how we label them, we have disproportionately been in rebuild mode for 15-20 years as a Club, with next to nothing to show for it in the way of success. It’s always a bad sign when the fans have more of an idea where the list is at than the Club, which has pretty much been the case since 2001 (until 2015). The Club made some really poor decisions in order to try and steal a flag - most of us knew our list was nowhere near it, regardless of 2011. The approach taken since 2015 is the approach that should have been taken at the beginning. Our decision-makers failed big time in those periods and caused us years of anguish!

Least there is light at the end of a very long tunnel, now!

I'm not knowledgeable enough to discuss the value of this, or of sufficient memory to recall if this has been discussed. I'd appreciate some insights. However, from my very limited knowledge, one of the things in my mind is whether anyone we bring in will be a potential premiership player. I want us to have aspiration of finals next year, and premierships in the following years. I know I'm selfish, but I want to see more premierships in my lifetime... So is a player of Laird's age worth the cost in terms of draft picks and development in other areas?

27 end of this year should get 4 years out him

Good points, since they are rebuilding, hopefully they wouldn’t ask for too much. His age profile would suit us, 4 years until he turns 32. The challenging part might be he is originally from SA and may not want to move, he was linked to Geelong during last years trade period.

I've just learned Mitch McGovern is out of contract this year, I've seen no talk about a new deal for him yet. Any chance we won't?
I think if West Coast offer a 3rd rounder we'd take it and run. Can't see it happening though. Wouldn't be surprised if we gave him a 1 year deal and put the heat on him
