Verlander needs TJ surgery, done for next year

Oakland become the 4th team to lock in a playoff spot, but will most likely be the first to secure their division. I think their magic number is 2.

The playoff run in the AL is a total bust with the 8 sides all but confirmed. The NL is a but more interesting with 10 teams mixing it up (12 if you want to stretch the mathematical possibilities)

Braves can win their Division today with a win over Miami and a Phillies loss. The Phillies loss is looking a possibility, they are current 5-1 down against Washington.

Yeah read that today - as a scribe i follow wrote, would be the best thing for the Braves - give the bullpen the rest of the year off, they are pretty wrecked. Just throw the hacks who wont play in the playoffs. Hopefully MVFree(man) does some damage to Miami

Edit: Loving having ozzie albies back from injury. Hitting .367 since his return from injury after hitting .159 before going on DL. Makes a huge difference

Braves clinch - wasnt really in doubt the last few weeks. As i said earlier, can try and get some rest into the bullpen. Rookie Wilson pitched a good game and if he doesn it again will probably start a playoff game. Our biggest issue is our starting pitching, relying on top 3 Cy Young Fried and some rookies. Lucky we can score runs, we are going to need them.

A lot of confidence (bluster) for a franchise with 16x the payroll and only a 10-10, 2 series victories to 2 series victories playoff record against the Tribe.

Be very very careful what you wish for mate.

;)

1st round playoffs gonna be like any other day with games starting every hour or so.

Matchups

NL
(1) Los Angeles Dodgers (43-17) vs. (8) Milwaukee Brewers (29-31)
(2) Atlanta Braves (35-25) vs. (7) Cincinnati Reds (30-29)
(3) Chicago Cubs (34-26) vs. (6) Miami Marlins (31-29)
(4) San Diego Padres (37-23) vs. (5) St. Louis Cardinals (30-28)

AL
(1) Tampa Bay Rays (40-20) vs. (8) Toronto Blue Jays (32-28)
(2) Oakland Athletics (36-24) vs. (7) Chicago White Sox (35-25)
(3) Minnesota Twins (36-24) vs. (6) Houston Astros (29-31)
(4) Cleveland Indians (35-25) vs. (5) New York Yankees (33-27)

Not sure there are many clear favourites in there, especially in a 3 game series.

I desperately wanted to avoid the Indians first up so not unhappy with drawing the white sox, not that it's going to be easy.
Our problem, like going into last year's playoffs, we've just not hitting with any consistency at all.
Assuming we'll run out Manaea game 1
Then A toss up between Bassitt and Luzardo game 2 and potential 3rd. We've probably got the best pen in baseball, the equal of the Rays. Just the matter of scratching enough runs across.
