Has there ever been an Autechre release you didn't love?

Recent-ish s**t I'm slowly working through I like:

The PJ Harvey "demo" albums, thought they'd just be a bit of a curio but some of the versions are killer. Luke Abbott's new one, the Holden & Zimpel EP from earlier in the year, Seltene Erdene, the vault tracks from Prince'ss Sign reissue. Moodymann's Taken Away, Scott & Charlene's Wedding live album. And other stuff I can't remember.

Artists become your favourites for a reason I guess, they prove dependable Insta-buys and get good mileage. I’m not crazy about LP5, Incunabula, a few EPs and singles (love would be too strong there), but typically their releases are among my yearly highlights. It just is.

Top 5/10 albums of the year for everyone?

I struggle to put them in order. Fiona Apple was probably the best, but other than that I'd throw a blanket over RTJ4, Gordi, Fleet Foxes, and Paul Kelly's 'rona album of poems and covers.

On the next tier are Haim, Something for Kate and Alicia Keys (which seems like it was supposed to be a secret, cos it's a surprisingly good album that no one talked about.)

On the third tier, Waxahatchee (she gets marked down, cos I once saw her live maybe 18 months ago and she was one of the worst live acts I've ever seen) and Megan Washington.

My top albums/EPs this year in a rough order

Jessie Ware - What's Your Pleasure
Kylie - Disco
Chloe x Halle - Ungodly Hour
Ondara - Folk n Roll Vol 1: Tales of isolation
St. Panther - These Days
Black Thought - Streams of Thought, Vol. 3: Cane & Able
Riley Pearce - Maybe I can sleep it off
Sturgill Simpson - Cuttin grass Vol 1
Kevin Garrett - Made up lost time
Nathaniel Rateliff - And it's still alright
Son Little - aloha
Gogo Penguin - Gogo Penguin
Dead Lord - Surrender
Jeff Tweedy - Love is the king
JoJo - good to know
Nick Grant - God bless the child
D Smoke - Black Habits
R. A. The Rugged Man - All my heroes are dead
Palace - The Hoxa Sessions
Berner - Russ Bufalino - The Quiet Don

I'll always favour my favourite bands, but don't think I've listened to any genuine classic LP's this year. That clipping. LP has potential to become the best of this year, but only listened to it a couple of times. Otherwise it's mainly consisted of bands at their peak maintaining a current standard: Deftones, The Ocean, Jeff Rosenstock or decent bands/artists in decline: The Strokes, Bright Eyes, Fleet Foxes. The albums weren't bad, just a step or two down from their absolute best and tbh both the Strokes and Bright eyes haven't put out anything about a 7 since the mid 00's.

That Empty Country LP is fantastic, and great to see Jo D'Agostino put out another something that holds up to the best Cymbals Eat Guitars. Really nice progression, and his songwriting is exceptional in spots.

Not alone, but thought the Fiona Apple LP was a little overrated and didn't really vibe much with it at all. Appreciate the whole shtick, but I much prefer her earlier stuff.

LP5 is arguably my favourite. That mid-section is peak Autechre.

Had a weird year music-wise. I liked 3-4 songs off a heap of projects, but not really enough for me to love them as a full experience. The following went beyond that, but they don't come close to 2019 for me.

Fiona Apple - Fetch the Bolt Cutters
Jockstrap - Wicked City
Logic - No Pressure
Oliver Tree - Ugly is Beautiful
R.A.P. Ferreira - Purple Moonlight Pages
Channel Tres - i cant go outside

Still listening through the new Cudi and Avalanches.

just realised there is a new Chris Cornell album out
it's only a covers album but I'm excited to hear it anyway.

well this was really disappointing.
the last song, Stay With Me Baby, is excellent but everything leading up to it falls flat for one reason or another.
