AFC
1. Kansas City Chiefs (14-1) -- Z
It doesn't matter how it happens, as long as it does happen, right? The Chiefs clinched the AFC's top seed and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs on Sunday, even though they were on the ropes for much of the game. Ultimately, they won when Falcons Pro Bowl kicker Younghoe Koo missed what would have been a game-tying 39-yard field goal with 9 seconds remaining.
The Chiefs will get the AFC's only first-round bye, and their next road game will come either at the Super Bowl or in the 2021 season.
Remaining schedule: vs. Chargers

2. Pittsburgh Steelers (12-3) -- Y
The Steelers snapped out of their extended funk at halftime of Sunday's game against the Colts, roaring back from a three-touchdown deficit to win and clinch the AFC North. They moved up to the second spot temporarily, and they will remain there entering Week 17 if the Bills lose Monday night to the Patriots.
Remaining schedule: at Browns

3. Buffalo Bills (11-3) -- Y
The Bills' Week 15 victory in Denver did the trick, making them the AFC East champions for the first time since Jim Kelly was their starting quarterback. They found out Sunday, however, that they won't be able to overtake the Chiefs for the No. 1 overall spot.
In terms of finishing at No. 2, they have a tiebreaker with the Steelers. And overall, the Bills are streaking. They have won seven of their past eight games, losing only when the Cardinals connected on a Hail Mary in Week 10. But Pittsburgh holds the advantage at the moment after beating the Colts on Sunday.
Remaining schedule: at Patriots, vs. Dolphins

4. Tennessee Titans (10-5)
The Titans failed to clinch the AFC South title on Sunday night in losing to the Packers, but they'll have multiple opportunities to do so in Week 17, thanks to the Colts' loss in Pittsburgh. The Titans will clinch if they beat the Texans or via a loss by the Ravens, Colts or Dolphins.
Remaining schedule: at Texans

5. Miami Dolphins (10-5)
The Dolphins pulled off one of the most dramatic and meaningful victories of the season on Saturday night, maintaining their spot in the AFC's top seven by beating the Raiders. Ryan Fitzpatrick's comeback might not only push the Dolphins into the playoffs, but it also could hold out the Browns or another qualified team.
The Dolphins can't clinch in Week 16, but a victory in Week 17 over the Bills would do it, as would a loss by the Ravens, Browns or Colts.
Remaining schedule: at Bills

6. Baltimore Ravens (10-5)
Sunday's win over the Giants, combined with the Browns' loss to the Jets, pushed the Ravens back into the playoff picture. They've now won four consecutive games and aren't a team that anyone in the AFC would look forward to playing. To clinch a postseason spot, all they'll need to do is win in Cincinnati in Week 17. The Ravens also would get in if the Browns or Colts lose.
Remaining schedule: at Bengals

7. Cleveland Browns (10-5)
The Browns' loss Sunday to the Jets was so, well, the Browns. Playing with a roster depleted by COVID-19 protocols, the Browns lost to a one-win team, and they are hanging on to their playoff chances by a thread.
They have the head-to-head tiebreaker against the Colts and can clinch a playoff spot in Week 17 by beating the Steelers at home. They also can clinch if the Colts lose or via this combination: the Titans losing their final game and the Ravens, Colts and Dolphins all winning in Week 17.
Remaining schedule: vs. Steelers

Still in the AFC hunt
Indianapolis Colts (10-5): Sunday's collapse in Pittsburgh leaves the Colts out of -- but not eliminated from -- the playoff picture, thanks to tiebreaker disadvantages to the Titans, Browns and Dolphins. The Colts will need help in Week 17 to secure a spot. First, they need a win. Then they need a loss by either the Titans, Ravens, Browns or Dolphins. A win and a Titans loss also would give the Colts the AFC South title. It sounds like a lot, but FPI is giving the Colts a 78% chance of making the playoffs.

NFC
1. Green Bay Packers (12-3) -- Y
The Packers weren't able to clinch the NFC's top spot, despite Sunday night's victory over the Titans, because both the Saints and Seahawks both won in Week 16. They can rectify that by beating the Bears in Week 17. FPI is giving Green Bay an 82% chance to lock it up.
If they lose to the Bears, the Packers can still secure home-field advantage if the Seahawks lose to the 49ers. The Seahawks would have the tiebreaker between the teams at if they both finish 12-4.
Remaining schedule: at Bears

2. New Orleans Saints (11-4) -- Y
The Saints clinched their fourth consecutive NFC South championship with Friday's wild victory over the Vikings. Now the question is whether they'll be able to leapfrog the Packers for the No. 1 spot in the conference. The simplest way to do it will be to beat the Panthers and then have the Packers lose to the Bears in Week 17. FPI is giving it about a 13% chance of happening.
Remaining schedule: at Panthers

3. Seattle Seahawks (11-4) -- Y
The Seahawks clinched the NFC West with Sunday's victory over the Rams. And they're not yet eliminated from the race for the NFC's top seed, but they would need to beat the 49ers in Week 17 and also have the Packers and Saints to lose in Week 17. It's not likely, but it's also not out of the question. FPI puts the chances of it happening at 5%.
Remaining schedule: at 49ers

4. Washington Football Team (6-9)
After 16 weeks of wildness, the NFC East title is going to come down to Week 17. Washington will win it if it beats the Eagles. If not, the winner of the Week 17 matchup between the Giants and Cowboys will clinch the division.
And yes, that means a sub-.500 team will officially win the division, one way or the other. Yuck. It has happened only two other times in the Super Bowl era: the 2014 Panthers (7-8-1) and the 2010 Seahawks (7-9). Whoever wins the NFC East will be the first team in NFL history (of 342 candidates) to start a season 2-7 or worse and go on to make the playoffs, according to research by the Elias Sports Bureau.
Remaining schedule: at Eagles

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (10-5) -- X
The Bucs clinched a playoff berth on Saturday by crushing the Lions, but the Saints' win on Friday eliminated them from the NFC South title race. Regardless, the Buccaneers should be able to clinch the 5-seed in the NFC playoffs next weekend with a victory over Atlanta.
Remaining schedule: vs. Falcons

6. Los Angeles Rams (9-6)
The Rams failed to clinch a playoff berth this weekend in losing to the Seahawks. They'll now need either a win in Week 17 or a loss by the Bears to do so. If the Rams lose and the Bears win, L.A. will miss the postseason after entering Week 16 with a 96.2% chance to make the playoffs, per FPI.
Remaining schedule: vs. Cardinals

7. Chicago Bears (8-7)
Sunday's victory at Jacksonville, following the Cardinals' loss Saturday to the 49ers, catapulted the Bears to the brink of clinching an unlikely playoff berth. They'll either need to beat the Packers in Week 17 or have the Cardinals lose to the Rams in order to secure their postseason spot.
Remaining schedule: vs. Packers

Still in the NFC hunt

Arizona Cardinals (8-7): Saturday's loss to the 49ers left the Cardinals needing help to get into the playoffs. They'll need a win in Week 17 and a Bears loss to do it (33% chance, per FPI).

Dallas Cowboys (6-9): The Cowboys can win the NFC East if they beat the Giants in Week 17 and Washington loses to the Eagles. Of the teams still alive, Dallas has the lowest FPI playoff odds at 16%.

New York Giants (5-10): Similarly, the Giants can win the NFC East if they beat the Cowboys in Week 17 and Washington loses to the Eagles. FPI is giving New York a 28% chance of making it happen.

fwiw - I'd love to see the Giants make playoffs.
Give me a 6-10 team hosting an 11-5 Buccaneers (Though, Atlanta do have a history of upsetting teams we should have no right at getting near.)

As long as the Eagles beat the Football Team I'm happy as we either get alot of Boise State alumni in the playoffs, or the New York Giants (for having a 6-10 team in playoffs)

Thread title needs to be edited please -
"(The final nail for AmericanCrow until next year's final nail)

And the final nail in 2022. And then 2023. And the year after that. And the year after that. And so on and so forth...

And fuey you drongo, this is all your fault for claiming that the Browns are "too good to lose". Genius.
Its the Browns. i kinda expected them to f**k it up even before the covid outs.

The Browns just seem to be allergic to success or happiness for their tormented fanbase.

The Jets sold out on the run, knowing the Browns had to focus on it as only means of genersting offense after all the WRs were inactive. Browns knew this would be the Jets plan and thus tried to fool them or whatever by focusing on the pass. The Jets have been a pretty good team for at least a month, especially D. They mustve decided they dont like Lawrence, or got word Lawrence will refuse to be drafted by them, why they stopped tanking. Anyway, the Browns were up against it due to covid WRs, and that the Jets were gonna kill their running game. Not like the Browns choked or something, they just got out-dueled by a pretty competent D.

Its the blueprint for those kinda teams, the Packers did the same. just sell out on the run and trust your DB's to clean up any passes in man coverage. If you have a QB that needs the run/PA to be good you take that away and make them win by throwing.

Dont get bead by what you know.

I personally hate fans celebrating losses for higher draft picks. Its a disgrace. Not like Andrew Luck did anything for the Colts (SBs). It might seem the smart play, but it seldom works out. A top rated QB, usually it masks or prolongs all the other deficiencies you still have.

It's a good question in general. Winning culture vs better picks. I think in this case, considering TL might be a generational talent, it is worth losing a few extra games.

In the NFL though, with a good coaching staff + good culture (players buying into the team) results can turn quickly. Look at the Dolphins this year for example.

Wasnt die to Tua, but good coaching, culture, and good mod+late round selections. Perfect example, Steelers or Patriots or Packers, who are always picking late every round but still find gems and still maintain being better than teams supposedly stealing all the talent before them. Patriots especially who cant draft, yet continued to be dominant for two decades. Andrew Luck generational talent too. Look how many top QBs end up s**t anyway --- Goff, Wentz, Trubisky, etc etc

Lawerence is right up there with Luck and Elway as the highest rated qbs to come out of college. His names been on everyone's lips since the national championship game 2 years ago and he's backed up the hype since then in his two years at college. Far different from your Goff, Wentz or Trubisky's.

He's a franchise turn-er-er- round-er-ra , so long as the GM of the team he goes to isn't some one like Ryan Grigson who gave his can't miss QB no oline.

heres the plot twist:

Jacksonville's current general manager for the rest of this year after Caldwell finally got the boot is ...edit: Trent Baalke. The Niners version of Ryan Grigson.

Burrow a generational QB just this year. Bengals lack of OL did get him killed. Anyway, the point was, celebrating losses and bemoaning wins. If you finish 3rd or 10th in the draft due to a late win or two, it doesnt really matter. You can trade up, trade back, land a stud who slid, still draft a franchise player at another position than QB.....youre that low in the draft because you lack talent across the board so any new stud will do. Also, QBs grow on trees, therell always be another "must have" the following year or some sleeper in the 3-5th rounds.

Washington Football Team waived QB Dwayne Haskins.
It's the culmination of a professionally catastrophic week for Haskins, who was fined $40,000 and stripped of his team captain title after violating COVID-19 protocols by attending a party maskless. The team was forced into starting him in Week 16 against the Panthers, who looked like the 1985 Bears defense with Haskins completing half of his passes for 154 yards, two interceptions, and a fumble. He was benched in favor of Taylor Heinicke, who had never played a regular season NFL snap but proved a major upgrade over Haskins. Heinicke will back up Alex Smith (calf) if Smith is able to play in the Football Team's critical Week 17 matchup against the Eagles. He ends his tumultuous two-year run in Washington with a 60.1 percent completion rate, 12 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. In a statement, head coach Ron Rivera thanked Haskins for his contributions. Haskins will be another team's project.
