Yes but ANZ holds 83,000 so if the NRL are struggling to sell less than half the capacity its not a good look and the NRL are maybe lucky it is only 40,000 they have to sell.

That's fair, but it's also not unusual for the GF not to sell out. Penrith v Melbourne would be a hard sell too. NRL crowds are a common theme of discussion here, so again it's not unusual. As BM said above, this is a season like no other but it's been pretty special to watch given the circumstances both codes have had to work under and especially so with no local footy to follow.

I'm looking forward to a great weekend of GF's in my two favourite codes. Good luck to your team as two of my kids support the Cats too. From an NRL perspective, the code needs Penrith to win.

Absolutely spot on

Not sure why he'd have a go at Victorian's when just about all and sundry through the NSW media and those who allegedly support the game thought he was mad setting May 28 as a start date.

anybody else in corporate life would be sacked for that comment. I'm glad he isn't though. keep throwing flaccid punches Peter - does the NRL really think it's CEO should be directing dreary insults at its only expansion market?

Ah, but here is the key point: he is not the CEO!
He is simply a loudmouth Chairman who acts as if he is the CEO.
He is an embarrassment, pure and simple.

He is Sydney's equivalent of Motor Mouth Kennett but a bogan as well!
People who are insecure like him tend to bag the opposition. It actually backfires as you unintenionally draw attention them.

Good to see the Storm stick it up the biased Sydney Media again!
The commentator complained about every single refereeing decision and virtually called him an idiot.
Dissecting every try was totally frustrating.

Phil Gould made that win even better!

1. Cricket Australia has just released its 2019/20 Annual Report- & Official Regd. Participants' data.

It said there are only 5800 U12 & below (5-12) male "Team" players in all Australia!? Is this a typo? This is staggeringly & unbelievably low, for all male team comp. players around Australia.

Are traditional cricket matches for teams from 5 y.o- 12 y.o. being replaced by other formats & competitions (less competitive & time consuming)?
"Cricket Blast"* had 59,300 male & female, 5- 10 y.o. only, players Aust.-wide. Also a low number. (Replacing the old Milo jnr programs?).

Jnr female cricket is rising significantly.

Should AF more aggressively encourage AFL9's/other non-contact AF versions in summer, to fill the summer sporting vacuum? Soccer is increasing its summer comps. & programs (inc. indoor futsal)- it would probably seek to exploit any vacuum. Ditto RL & RU.

Traditionally, in Vic., WA, SA, Tas. & sthn. NSW, there have often been direct & strong links between the local jnr cricket clubs/jnr players/club officials, with the local jnr players/jnr club officials of the jnr AF clubs sharing the same, or nearby, ovals- often a direct cross-over (excluding jnr cricket clubs which have many jnr players from a sub-continent background).
Will these poor cricket nos. hurt jnr AF recruitment in the future?

Since cricket has summer to itself (cf. football codes, but not basketball), the 171,000 senior club players, for all Australia, is not huge.

The Report says that after 3 years of decline, total "participation" rose to 709,957 in Aust.- a rise of 3.8%

*Cricket Blast Jnr Program

6-8 weeks only, 60 minutes each session. For 5 y.o- 10 y.o boys & girls. No H & A comp., skills training only

2. Australia is "the odds-on favourite" to host the 2027 RU World Cup.
The Bid will receive $8.8m Fed. govt. support.

Hosting the RU WC would obviously provide a big boost to GR RU, & Aust.'s pro RU sides, if successful.

3. Brisbane Roar will move all its A League home games from Suncorp Stadium to Redcliffe (capacity 11.5k), in far nthn. Brisbane, for 2020/21 season- to save ground hire costs.

Due to its distant location from the CBD (32 kms by road, 90 mins by public transport), I assume average crowds will drop.

Not many kids under 10 would play junior cricket simply because they're not capable. You need to be able to bowl from 16m, which not many kids that age can. So they do cricket blast programs instead.

It's not like footy where you can just chuck a ball in the middle and you've got a game. To have a cricket game you need a minimum level of skill.

Australia? Matches across Australia?
2017, that's some time away and one off events quickly pass in effect.
RU only really needs to play matches in NSW and Qld as that's where the game is mainly played and supported.

The other big problem is that the Wallabies are not a truly national team as nearly all their players come from NSW and QLD and now about half from the Pacific Islands and NZ!

The last RWC held here was a raging success and generated a shitload of money for the ARU. They used it up pretty quick though, and the game generally was in a much better place in 2003 than it is now.

True, although a strategy that relies on hosting a world cup every 16 to 20 years is not a strategy that is ever going to take you too far.
