That's the way. Spite yourself and impact the chances of winning a final to teach a young kid not to be homesick.
At this point they have rumours on Constable, Parfitt and Clarke wanting out, so probably not a surprise they'll go for another quick top up with guys like Crouch or Viney while Danger, Selwood, Hawkins, Taylor etc are still around cause they'll likely have a big drop after.

It's always that difficult juggling act when working in a premiership window, but they might be losing a few blokes due to their preference on ready made 22 guys coming in.

Consensus on the Geelong board seems to be: (all pretty obvious)

Chris Scott -bad mistakes

Hawkins - kicking cost them the game/not the first time he’s lost them a final with bad kicking.

Game plan- controlling the ball as opposed to chaos ball footy doesn’t work in finals - look at Richmond.

Port - not that good, won’t win the GF

Players - forget trading in Crouch or Viney etc. that path has failed again.

supporters - sick of repeated finals failure using same formula of trading in players.

Strange- nobody mentioned Chris Scott’s haircut, or lack thereof. 🤷‍♂️

Hawkins 0.5

There's your game right there.

Well done to Port, they suck the life out of teams in an ugly fashion but it certainly works in 2020. Pretty much locked in for a GF now.
Not really, if Brisbane win against Richmond they will have to play Tigers

I think there might be a big cleanout by Geelong at the end of the year. There are many cooked players there: they make us look very raw.
Taylor and Ablett are finished, Steven also. I wouldn't be surprised if Rohan is shown the door.
Having said that, I don't understand the Parfitt rumours. Some say above that he is looking to get out, yet the original rumour implied that Geelong might be offering him up as part of a Crouch deal. I don't believe the latter. Why would he want out, and is there any evidence for that?

Their tackling and defensive pressure is sensational. Up there with Richmond as the best in that regard.

I am 10% going for Brisbane tonight... so that Port has to play Richmond.... and then if they get that its another tough feat with Brisbane at the Gabba at night in the GF...

If hawkins and stanley kciked straigh game right there

Geelong have played finals in 8 of 9 seasons following 2011:

4 finals won (1 Qualifying final, 3 semi-finals)

12 finals lost (2 Elimination finals, 5 Qualifying finals, 1 semi-final, 4 prelim finals)

6 of 8 seasons where they played finals, they finished top 4.

4 of 6 top 4 finishes were top 2 finishes.

Pretty clear that a Chris Scott lead Geelong are the biggest pretenders of the last decade.

Geelong always seem to be talked up during the home and away season, always appear to be playing really well at one point or another.

Then when the finals hit, it is poo poo time.

Edit:

For reference, we're 5 wins 5 losses over the same period.
Finals winsFinals losses
1 Qualifying final1 Qualifying final
2 Elimination finals2 Semi-finals
1 Semi-final1 Preliminary final
1 Preliminary final1 Grand final
And the one qualifying final they did win they should have lost except Isaac Smith choked his after siren shot Westhoff-style.

Well he’s getting close! Two more wins and amazingly, Kern will join Fos, Jack and Mark as true Port Adelaide legends, feted premiership coaches. They are “one club” right? What esteemed company he will find himself in. People like Lyon (Ross) or even Rodney Eade would be dismayed if that was to happen... very good coaches without a bit of luck and if someone like Kern wins one, well :$ It can be a cruel game.

Anyway, it’s no done deal yet. But there will be some warped fascination for if the worst was to happen. I am sure more than one of Ken’s “haters” would shamelessly say that they supported and believed in him all along. Mind you, it seems to work for Richmond supporters on here re: Hardwick so anything goes! :)

Stay strong all!

Luke Beveridge is a premiership coach. Anything truly can happen.

Interesting stat...two weeks ago Adel v Rich scores were 4.9 to 12.5...last night Port 9.4, Geel 5.12...making the most of your opportunities makes a huge difference. Surely Satan is controlling outcomes this year!

The collective team confidence takes a dip each time an opportunity is missed, and the opposite occurs when a team is able to put scoreboard pressure on.

So danger ran 73m with 3 bounces for his goal?
AO is 167m and he ran from the center to the square.

silly question here - do you get to run ten or fifteen metres per bounce? honestly can't remember

if it's 15 metres then Danger is fine - remember you get 15 metres before your first bounce and another 15 metres before you finally kick it

That's 60 metres - if you push each of those 15m runs to 18m it makes it 72m and you can see how 3m leeway can easily happen

it wasn't as bad as the Franklin on Talia run

Yeah I don’t have an issue with it just thought it was interesting

15m but they usually say 15 steps. A sprinting Danger would be covering more than 1m per step easily.

Cripps probably overran on his GOTY contender but was never going to get pinged.

So danger ran 73m with 3 bounces for his goal?
AO is 167m and he ran from the center to the square.

Not surprising. Cripps' goal of the year was about 25m with no bounce. Heck, Lewis Jetta once ran from half back to the goal square with 3 bounces.

Running too far is one of those rules that is almost universally ignored, until an umpire wants a bit of screen time and remembers it exists and blows it for someone who runs 15.01m just to show that they do actually know the rules.

The absolute insanity on how many different versions of 15m there are is a big pet peeve of mine. Theoretically, every time an umpire pays a mark for a 10m kick they're saying they'd blow the whistle if someone ran that far without bouncing. Likewise, they're saying that if someone kicked it as far as Danger/Cripps ran without bouncing, they'd call "not 15, play on."

A single game can have so many different interpretations of 15m.
8m is 15m in defensive 50 in Q1, Q2 and Q3
15m is 15m in defensive 50 in Q4
10m is 15m in forward 50
20m is 15m when a player is running with the ball
25m is 15m when a really fast player is running with the ball

Marc MacGowan on Twitter saying List size reduction will be minimal heading into next year. 42 players (38 and 4 Cat A Rookies), plus 2 Cat B rookies.

edit: I believe the changes gives flexibility to clubs on choosing the makeup of that core list of 42 players, eg I think clubs can have 40 on the main list, and only 2 Cat A rookies (plus 2 Cat B rookies)
