Melbourne were doing so well until they traded 6 for May and KK6 & 23 for hogan & 65
What were Essendon thinking more like itDanniher out for half a year at least, what were Sydney thinking?
I agree on the Darwinian aspect - I understand contact injuries etc - my point was that this kid has made it this far on his own ( practically) utilising all the tools and body movement he grew up with , and then joins a senior program and breaks downProblem is how do you develop a kid for AFL properly if you're going to wrap him in cotton wool? Even with specially modified programs, with all the running and contact drills they have to do, it would be hard task preventing injuries. I think an unfortunate but necessary part of this business is that injuries sort the wheat from the chaff. There is sort of a darwinian element to it. Regardless of talent, either you have a body that can handle the rigors of AFL or you don't.

I agree with your point on Gibson. If you follow my posting you would know I don't rate our current fitness boss at all. Hass is the last remaining remnant of Burton's regime and I'd prefer to see him flushed out of the system before he inevitably becomes our board's next whipping boy.I agree on the Darwinian aspect - I understand contact injuries etc - my point was that this kid has made it this far on his own ( practically) utilising all the tools and body movement he grew up with , and then joins a senior program and breaks down
You have to question the system along with the player - its not one or the other.
Its like Gibson - whether you agree with us trading for him - the fact he played 100+ games for the Roos in a row and then broke down here was a warning light on this board that something wasnt right
tl;dr maybe the player/kid isnt injury prone but in a bad system

They have an idiot list manager who doesn't understand the concept of mutual gain. What were Essendon thinking? They decided to keep him.
who are paying half, and we are looking for help to pick up the rest. He was told about this first half this morning before school, and he was jubilant.Unexpected item in bouncing area.

Casey Donovan and the Index Massive .... No Meatloaf jokes required .
Makes for a very interesting philosophical question

This is why we had to have change... but came a year later than it should have given we have poor decision makers.Eddie opens up a bit about the damage that camp caused.

How Eddie Betts lost the joy of footy after infamous pre-season camp
For many supporters, Eddie Betts embodies the joy of footy, but last year the exhilarating goalkicker fell out of love with the game and found trying to fix it like digging himself deeper into a hole.www.theage.com.au

Nothing really new in that article, really just some journo in Melbourne rehashing the past again. I feel a little sad though that Eddie felt the need to leave to reignite his joy for the game. This is why we had to have change... but came a year later than it should have given we have poor decision makers.
Still unbelievable we let Birdbrain employ an unqualified charlatan to completely destroy the fabric of the club whilst we were in the premiership.. & never apologised.
We should find out this year how much this has been holding us back the last 2 years.

It will be the first time in ages that neither Port or the Crows will be considered April premiers. I'm okay with this though. We seem to do a little better when we're not burdened by the footy media over hyping us.Nothing really new in that article, really just some journo in Melbourne rehashing the past again. I was a massive fan of Pyke up until the camp. After the camp though and heading into 2018 it started becoming clearer that he endorsed some or all of Burton’s desicions/initiatives.
It’s been a long a time since I can remember an off season with so little publicity and so little expectation, for either us or Port for that matter.
I’m looking forward to this season. Hopefully a few pleasant surprises, and no doubt the odd disappointment.
True, but his drop in form may have been related to him losing his enjoyment of the game. A led to B, and he didn't like B any more than he did A.^^
This.
Reckon Eddie getting dropped didn't go down too well with him either.
I think a lot of us may be feeling flat after a confluence of:...

Yeah, I think my general feeling is uncertainty. I have low expectations; not because I expect failure as such, but because I don't know what to expect.I think a lot of us may be feeling flat after a confluence of:
* all the recent dramas
* club giving a few wallies the boot as a result
* the club jettisoning older players and doing a re-fresh
* pre-season training being hard to access due to the Footy Park works
* us being highly invested over the last few seasons and feeling a bit jaded
But looking forward to a new season with new coach and lots of new kids to see what they're like.
Dear Lord. How naff can we go?Unexpected item in bouncing area.
