not in every state and not yet in large numbers in comparison to o/s cases. Hopefully we don’t see an explosion when these 500k new test kits arrive and the testing policy changes.
The number of cases in Australia is tracking in the exact same profile as Italy and the UK. Current government estimates are between 50,000 - 150,000 dead before a vaccine is ready.
For comparison 27,000 Australians died in World War 2

50,000-150,000 Australians dead?

The poster said "Government" estimates as in OFFICIAL sources?

Just to clarify I'm not having a go at you but there's truckloads of misinformation circulating in the media and social media in particular so unless it comes from a medical practitioner or a reliable Government source you really don't know who to believe.

Based on information from Australia's deputy chief medical officer on 16 March :eek::eek:

Then you should know that the fact the drugs have been approved for other uses (Malaria for example) in humans takes us a big step closer.
True, but they will do all the required safety testing and clinical phases

Nothing will change. All the players will stay where they are. I think after May/June the virus will be completely controlled in Australia. Other parts of the world not so much. The hysteria in Australia is quite unfounded. As I have heard quite a lot of professional commentary that there is no exponential case growth virtually no community transmission. The increasing number of cases in Australia is wholly fueled by returning travelers still coming home.
This doesn't fill me with any confidence but this guy is thinking along similar lines:

Except all the countries he is noting as flattening out quicker than expected did so with lockdowns far more drastic than what we are currently implementing.

Until the government nationally bites the bullet and forces people to stay in their homes we will continue our exponential increase in the short term.

I’m a practising optimist as you know. Between Missus and I, we know of only 1 person who is presently crook in any way at all. Your experience among the people that you know may be different, but apart from these confirmed cases, I’m not aware of any anecdotal evidence suggesting that there’s uncounted enormous numbers of ill people across the country. Of course, all the people I know are in SA and NT, neither state having recorded a confirmed community transmission yet.
Hopefully we can keep it that way.

Isolation and hygiene the only way to do it.

I haven’t read that but saw him on footy classified last night, he chose to stay in Melbourne and work rather than go home to his family.
And these Sports Show both TV and Radio have bugger all to talk about sports wise basically worldwide at present only the doom and gloom that's eventuated from the shut downs.

"he" chose?
Again I didn’t read the article so I don’t know if it says any different, but he indicated last night he chose to stay in Melbourne for work and to not self isolate. He’s from SA so there is no other reason why he couldn’t come home.

14 team competition. 26 rounds, no preseason.

Sydney, GWS
West Coast, Fremantle
Adelaide, Port
Brisbane, GC
Geelong
Collingwood, Richmond, Carlton, Hawthorn, Essendon

Bulldogs, North, Saints and Melbourne relegated to VFL.
All players become free agents and all clubs start again with no contracts.

Bontempelli, Macrae, Smith, Naughton, Hunter
Brown, Cunnington, Thomas
Billings, Ross, Hill, King,
Viney, Gawn, May, Lever, Oliver
There was an article posted here recently that I seem to remember that also Geelong, Gold Coast and Freo are in real trouble as well.
And I think Port and Carlton were in the danger zone. I can't see AFL being able to afford to bail them all out.
Could be a real re-set for the comp, hopefully Tas, NT and even the ACT are part of the re-build and not more Vic clubs

They've literally only been testing people who have returned from overseas, or had direct contact. Of course the test results only show that.
