Might not be the only state league club to go under. All the State leagues are in danger of collapse.
Could be a real opening for the AFL reserves comp on a reduced amount of AFL clubs.
14 teams with reserves, 26 rounds plus finals and televise some of the reserves games to make up the short fall in TV games
Centrals in trouble with no footy and no pokie money. They've gone a GoFundMe.

With all the talk that the AFL will move to a more semi-professional league like it was in the 90s, we are poised to strike as we are ahead of the game, having practised this method for the last few years already. Dynasty!

My thing with Ben Cousins is I just don't care about the ups and downs of the story now.

Wish him the best and if in 20 years time we find out he turned it all around 15 years ago and is living a good life then fantastic.

We don't need the updates and tell all interviews until then.

Agreed

In typical ch 7 and 9 style they finished with uplifting music and smiles all round and people kissing him and Basil saying “You know there’s a lot of people wanting you to come back from this and succeed”

I said to my wife - most people couldn’t care less about him. I wish him the best but Australians aren’t sitting on the edge of their seats waiting to see what happens

The program was 10 years past its peak interest date so curiosity value at best

I want the SANFL and its history to survive, especially the Port Adelaide Magpies, who have been THE club to hate, fear and respect throughout most of its history. Just hope the SANFL sheds it’s weird need to be the ‘second best comp’ in the country. So much of their salary cap blown on has-beens when they should be working their asses off to develop kids and recruit kids that recently missed being drafted. Should be an under 23 league with a set amount of ‘over agers’.

SANFL clubs do a lot now in the development of kids

Honestly this is why I would rather see Melbourne clubs fold rather than Adelaide and Port
No clubs are folding the AFL have just mortgaged Docklands for $500M. They have oodles of cash can probably pay all the players full whack to.

I think people will have to start paying to get into the AFLW, maybe $5-10

I think if the financial situation is dire, the AFL will make cuts everywhere else before they lose the money from the media rights of the mens AFL.

That should pay off the $500m in about 50 years!

Assuming no drop in attendance associated with this, and 3000 watching each game, that equates to about $2m.

How about they just stop paying Tom Lynch his ambassadors wage and get the same result

I don’t think that the cost and effort required to collect $300k per game qualifies as being pound foolish. If crowds dwindle, the argument can begin to be made, but not with crowds at present levels.
Seems easier and lower risk to just say we don't need AFL ambassadors anymore -> I mean, i don't even know who they actually are, meaning they do very little for the endorsement of the game.

Particularly when according to Gil, "The highest-paid ambassadors – three of the top four, I think – are with Melbourne clubs."

Just seems like more snouts in the trough again
