Player agents have said anecdotally they believe current players would have already received the highest contract they'll receive in their career. The next decade will be scaling back - and a big part of this may be Foxtel and 7's possible inability to pay their side of the broadcast contract.

Yep, just before Christmas I downscaled our Foxtel package to just the entertainment and sports packages because we hardly ever watched half the channels we were paying for but only a couple of days ago Foxtel emailed me that they'd added the movies package and one other package I can't remember what it was called to our overall package....pretty much a sign they're grimly trying to hold on to their current subscribers.

They've opened up all packages to all subscribers. It's partly recognition that there are a lot more people at home, looking for something to while away the hours in front of the God Box. But mostly, as you say, it's an attempt to prevent people from cancelling their subscriptions.

Foxtel & Kayo have both taken an absolute hammering since every sporting competition in the world shutdown. For many (possibly even the majority) of people, this was Foxtel's only real selling point. With no live sport, why bother continuing the subscription?

What!!

And miss my daily dose of Andrew Bolt? No chance! ;) :fire:

You can watch him on FTA TV. Sky News has been broadcast on the Nine & WIN networks for the last 2 years. That's one less reason to give money to Uncle Rupert.

** I know you're not actually a fan of Bolt

Seems easier and lower risk to just say we don't need AFL ambassadors anymore -> I mean, i don't even know who they actually are, meaning they do very little for the endorsement of the game.

Particularly when according to Gil, "The highest-paid ambassadors – three of the top four, I think – are with Melbourne clubs."

Just seems like more snouts in the trough again

$300K? That 30000 at $10 per head Lots of the men’s games don’t pull that many

I took up the $2 per month kayo option when the email went out - i had been subscribed to them anyway but figured i may aswell take the $20 off

I forgot about and saw the $2 taken out yesterday - cancelled the subscription entirely as there will not be any footy this year

If the AFL as a league went under, the sport would never be played again you reckon?
Well there’s other leagues out there. Not sure the remuneration would be quite the same. Any new Major league would likely, be a lot less willing to dish out million dollar contracts, after the recently collapsed league failed due to million dollar contracts.

Claiming that player contracts are the reason the league is presently in difficulty is about as wilfully dishonest as you could possibly be.

You love a verbal stoush don’t you. 🤣

There was an old saying about Ric Flair in his prime- that he could wrestle a broom and draw a good match out of them.

I've never quite had the same ability to draw good arguments out of you lot. It's not for want of trying.

We've got everything for free. They never even changed the price from our promotional deal from 2 years ago.

Careful, that's a lot of money and they may send debt collectors after you if they ever realize and you refuse to pay them back.

They'd be able to prove you using the service, so you'd likely be on the hook.

Could really **** with your credit rating.
