Nah they are way too inconsistent and their spine is partly responsible.

That's not just on the spine, that's on the whole team and I'd argue the coaches just as much if not more than the players. McKay is inconsistent (well mostly he just can't finish his good work) but still young and will come good.
Weitering is quality. Curnow is quality (although injury prone af). Marchbank (again when not injured) is quality and plowman is perfectly serviceable as the 2nd/3rd tall. Pittonet is AFL standard and De Koning may end up a lot better than that.
Gov is a potato but he is not really a KPP anyway.
Their problem, as already pointed out, is that they only have Cripps as an A grade midfielder (who looks broken from carrying them for 4 years) and their only B graders are Curnow and Murphy who are close to the end.
Love IQ, great to watch. He played alright.

Exactly - it's not his role to be chasing and tackling. That was my point.
I agree IQ is good, but Sholl was one of, if not the best player on the ground in a huge upset. Sholl by a country mile for me.

Yeah I think ideally you want a good ruckman, but not a great one. Cap space better spent elsewhere.

Footy teams have 22 players, of which a ruckman is just one and a specialist at that. Odds are against having a truly "great" one in a premiership team really. Great players are great players though.
September is the time for rucks to shine. A ruck who offers plenty of contested advantage and syncs well with the rest of the midfield will do the trick.
Isn't the acquisition of Brad Ottens said to be a major reason for Geelong winning a couple premierships?
Nankervis had a big impact at the Tigers when he got traded in although not a "top flight" ruck I remember the media talking about how good he was along with Caddy and Prestia.
Maybe some more that's the closest i could think of off the top of my head.

been watching a lot of mid 2000's footy on Youtube recently.
While watching this one I heard this crazy line "If Carlton win today they get picks 5 and 21, if they lose they get picks 1, 4 and 20". Needless to say, they did not win
They picked Murphy and Josh Kennedy which didn't do them much good in the end but what a joke the priority pick era was.

I saw him lay a massive block for AB I think it was. Just put his huge frame between opponent and Andy, stuck his arms out and Andy waltzed away with the pill. Surprised to see Fyfe being the one laying the block, but he was very effective

The diving in soccer and AFL is to gain a competitive advantage, not because they are genuinely hurt and can’t go on, a bit like Sonny clutching his face and going down when he gets a finger on the shoulder
