NFL 2020 - Off-Season Player News & General Discussion

From a title punting perspective, I'm interested to know if their are any states with teams who have been able to at least get it under some sort of semblance of control, are there any outliers?

Note to self: Don't wager on any Florida or New York teams.

  • Dolphins head coach Brian Flores said he's "excited" to have acquired WR Lynn Bowden from the Raiders, though the rookie is "not going to jump out and start playing."
Miami traded a 2021 fourth round draft pick for Bowden and the Raiders' 2021 sixth round pick. “We did a lot of work on Lynn pre-draft and when the trade was an option, we did a lot more work,” Flores said. “We’re excited about having him join our team. There’s a lot he’s going to have to learn. He’s not going to jump out and start playing. He has to learn how we do things. He’s got a lot to learn and [that takes] a little bit of time. We’re excited to have him.” The Dolphins declared Bowden a wide receiver, making him a potentially intriguing waiver add should he work his way into the lineup and operate as a running back while having receiver eligibility in fantasy lineups.

Falcons head coach Dan Quinn said RB Brian Hill has earned more playing time with his performance in practices.
Quinn said Hill, entering his fourth season, "has taken a jump in the pecking order," per Atlanta beat writer William McFadden. This is in line with previous reporting that Hill has stood out among the running backs behind Todd Gurley. Hill flopped in two starts last year, gaining 44 yards on 24 rushing attempts. But if he's next up in the Atlanta backfield, he's worth rostering as a deep bench stash. Hill dominating touches in Gurley's absence remains unlikely though.

Practice squad waves aren't as big as 53 man roster waves....

Jaguars signed QB Mike Glennon to their practice squad.
Glennon spent the summer with the Jaguars but didn't make the initial 53-man roster. He'll serve as the team's emergency quarterback behind Gardner Minshew and Jake Luton.

Eagles coach Doug Pederson said Jason Peters will start at left tackle.
He'll replace LT Andre Dillard, who was moved to season-ending injured reserve with a torn bicep. Peters was initially re-signed to take over for RG Brandon Brooks (torn Achilles', IR) but that role will now fall to either Matt Pryor, Nate Herbig or fourth-round prospect Jack Driscoll. The organization will also have to sort out Peters' contract (assuming it hasn't already) after he went on record with his desire for a raise if shifting to Carson Wentz's blindside. Despite their issues in the trenches, the Eagles' offense remains one to stack across formats against Washington in Week 1.

My Jailhouse candle lighting worked a treat. 2 yard carry Sony back at the top of the depth chart, you beauty

Patriots RB Damien Harris (hand) remained sidelined for Monday's practice.
Harris still reportedly has sutures in his pinkie finger stemming from surgery last week. Initial reports were that the injury was going to take "a few weeks" to heal, so it's still possible he lands on three-week injured reserve to open the season. Although it took some time for Sony Michel to make an appearance at practice, it now appears the third-year runner will lead the team in carries against the Dolphins in Week 1, with James White being used as New England's No. 2 receiving option. White's floor is much higher than Michel's, but it's the latter who could conceivably fall forward for multiple touchdowns on Sunday.

Giants waived CB DeAndre Baker.
This was expected after Baker was placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt list with 4 counts of armed robbery. The Giants gave up the 37th pick, the 132nd pick, and the 142nd pick to move up and grab Baker at the end of the first round in 2019 only to watch him get burned for six touchdowns and 15.7 yards per completion as a rookie, charged with armed robbery in his second year, and inevitably released altogether. Given the seriousness of Baker's charges, this is likely the last we'll see of him in the league for some time.

Jets coach Adam Gase said WR Breshad Perriman is "feeling a lot better" ahead of Week 1.
Perriman has been absent from practice since late August with a swelling knee. With only five available receivers on the active roster and rookie Denzel Mims (hamstring) also nursing an injury ahead of Week 1, the Jets are potentially eyeing Jamison Crowder, Chris Hogan, and Braxton Berrios in three-wide sets against the Bills. In that scenario, the team would likely call up either Donte Moncrief or Lawrence Cager from the practice squad. Crowder remains the only fantasy viable wideout among this group in Week 1.

Here's to you Jimmy Robinson, I've scooped you up in as many leagues as possible, wo, wo, wo...

Jaguars coach Doug Marrone said it "will be awhile" before RB Ryquell Armstead (COVID-19 list) is ready to play.
Armstead opened camp on the team's reserve/COVID list, was eventually removed for a few practices, then returned for a second stint ahead of the regular season opener. With no timeline for his return, all of Devine Ozigbo, Chris Thompson, and James Robinson will work in a committee in the interim. Thompson remains the likeliest candidate to offer immediate value in negative game scripts in Week 1, whereas Ozigbo is a safe bet to lead the team in carries. Armstead can be universally dropped across re-draft leagues.

What is it with former Ravens linebackers ending up on IR for the Jets? 🤔

Jets placed LB Patrick Onwuasor (knee) on injured reserve.
This was expected after Onwuasor suffered a knee injury during the final week of camp. Initially expected to start at inside linebacker for New York, that responsibility will instead be manned by Blake Cashman and Neville Hewitt in the interim.

Interesting article on said player and interview with Roseman about drafting players with risk;

Surprised no-one took a punt on him given what we saw in college but I guess that was a few years ago now.....Still think he would be the best CB on the Jets team with a torn achilles :p

Achillies injuries are no joke. Ruined so many careers.

You see blokes like Jaylon Smith and Teddy B wreck their knee to complete s**t and recover but a pop of the achilles and a player is never the same again.

So apparently Odell Beckham likes being poo'd on 😳....#ClevelandSteamer 😂

s**t ain't right, but you've got to get your thot's on NDA's these days.
