NFL 2020 - Off-Season Player News & General Discussion

While I do appreciate how ridiculous it sounds and the point he is making, one is a neccessary act of playing the game that we all want to go ahead and that get's him paid. The other isn't.

The reality is an avoidable extra 2 mins of contact is just that, avoidable.

Exactly why a season will be unlikely. None of these guys are going to be socially distant because "I get tested all week and am negative so why do I need to". Plenty will be out and about especially in idiotic cities that have bars open.

Just watch

How do people think the season won't go ahead lol
Because we look at America and see how poorly they are treating the situation and what happened when on a small scale individual states tried to re-open the economy.

Hell the NFL has already cut back 2 weeks of preseason and training camps dont even open for another 2.5 weeks.

Comments from Donovan Smith and Nate Solder questioning why NFL is bothering to go ahead...momentum building

Jaguars announced, in compliance with state and local authorities, TIAA Bank Field will seat approximately 25 percent of its capacity at each home game this season.
The Jaguars would've only filled a quarter of the stadium even if there weren't a pandemic. The organization will still allow for refunds, and all season ticket payments have already been credited to accounts for use towards the 2021 season. The Buccaneers and Dolphins have yet to announce their plans for attendance this upcoming season.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports fans, wherever allowed, will be required to wear "face coverings" indoors.
As highlighted over the past month, the front office has a way of dodging pressing issues concerning the players and fans, instead opting for positive PR and whimsical spin to lessen the blowback. Nothing has been resolved regarding the preseason schedule, practices, training camp, economics, player options, gameday inactives and city-wide legislation for group gatherings. The league is running out of time to answer actual issues that could potentially halt the season from starting altogether.

Another reason why indoor stadiums are s**t

In one of the highest infected area in the world??!! These guys are delusional

No play no pay.
Good article here discussing that. Baseball has seen a few players opt out but as article stated mostly guys who have can afford to.

But some guys are disadvantaged because a family member may be in the vulnerable group which could be argued is unfair to them

edit: oops here’s the article...

And from the life and times of DeAndre Baker.....

Giants now expected to cut him after it was revealed he paid off one of his armed robbery victims 55K. 😂

IIRC the whole thing happened because he lost $70k gambling over the previous couple of nights, wasn't it?

Seahawks CB Quinton Dunbar has denied an allegation that he paid off four witnesses to change their stories in his armed robbery case.
Dunbar's lawyer Michael Grieco claims he and alleged accomplice DeAndre Baker are "each victims of an extortion attempt by four people." Tellingly, Grieco does not directly deny paying $55,000 to the four witnesses to "get them to sign sworn affidavits alleging that they were recanting their stories of the robbery to instead state that Dunbar was innocent." Grieco described his efforts as obtaining “truthful” affidavits. Dunbar and Baker's lawyers had claimed the case would go away by now, but it has done anything but. Their 2020 statuses are up in the air.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports the NFLPA has made an economic counterproposal to the league regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
Amongst the Union's proposals: No escrow of 2020 salaries, a flat 2021 salary cap of $198.2 million, "spread revenue loss this year over 2022-2030 caps" and "all fully guaranteed money paid even if games are canceled." Only the last idea may be a non-starter, but none of this will be automatic. This is the dialogue that needs to be happening, but it's astounding it did not begin sooner. The supposed training camp report date of July 28 is only 11 days away. Profootballtalk reports the sides hope to have an agreement by next Tuesday or Wednesday.

ESPN's Dianna Russini reports the NFL and NFLPA have yet to formally agree on a July 28 report date for training camp.
Per Russini, "the league and the player’s union have not agreed on dates of reporting for camp or prior dates for testing of COVID-19." The league probably has the unilateral ability to make players report, but as we saw with Major League Baseball, leagues would like to avoid using that kind of power at a time like this. Players like J.J. Watt have made the case that camp should only begin when both sides are truly ready, and that the downsides of rushing an arbitrary report date far outweigh the benefits.

Franchise-tagged Shaq Barrett filed a grievance to be classified as a defensive end rather than linebacker.
The difference is roughly $2 million more than the value of his current $15.828 million tag as a linebacker. Last season's sacks leader with 19.5 could travel a similar path as Ravens franchised edge rusher Matt Judon, who agreed to split the difference with Baltimore at over $16 million.

Franchise-tagged Bud Dupree filed a grievance to be classified as a defensive end rather than linebacker.
It's the same thing Bucs franchised edge rusher Shaq Barrett is doing in Tampa Bay. The defensive end tag is worth about $2 million more than the $15.828 million linebacker version. Ravens franchise edge rusher Matt Judon split the difference with Baltimore and will make over $16 million this season. Dupree is coming off a career-high 11.5 sacks.

If you played these guys as defensive ends in a 4-3 they'd be obliterated.

Completely agree with Brett's analysis of Clowney, if you're paying him as a #1 DE you're going to get burnt. Reckon hes far better as a blitzer as a 3-4 OLB.

He reckons the Raiders will sign him btw.
