2020 Player of the Year Leaderboard

And it's back (eventually)!

To recap, Lachie Neale was dominant winning the player of the year award last year in his debut season with the club, setting a new record number of votes polled. Dayne Zorko added a second place finish to go with his back-to-back victories in 2016-17, tying with Daniel Rich in his best finish to date. Our wingers took the next two positions, Hugh McCluggage and Mitch Robinson followed by goal machine Charlie Cameron. Noah Answerth capped off an excellent debut season by winning the rookie of the year award.

The record for the most number of individual votes cast was broken again, with 1136 votes cast in our round one game against the West Coast Eagles, topping the 1004 votes cast in our round nine performance against Hawthorn in 2018.

Can Lachie Neale go back-to-back to equal Dayne Zorko's record performance? Will Hugh McCluggage be able to take his game to a new level and be the first of the next generation to win the title? Will a fit Jarrod Berry start to push himself into contention? And who will take out the rookie of the year competition?

Former Player of the Year Winners:

2019 - Lachie Neale (59 votes)
2018 - Dayne Beams (36 votes)
2017 - Dayne Zorko (50 votes)
2016 - Dayne Zorko (50 votes)
2015 - Stefan Martin (53 votes)

Thanks for doing this ZoBlitz. I wonder if at the end of the season you could provide that file with all the data on it.

I assume the same file for last year is still on last years thread. I want to do a few comparisons. For example , Rich has had a stellar year. I cannot remember a match were he lowered his colours and I assume he has suffered few top five selections (he isn't a mid-fielder who always get votes when we win) but will have gained more votes per match than last year. Dan McStay played his best game ever this week and I would like to see his nominations game by game for the last two years.

We are in lock down here in Melbourne so anything for us obsessives to get through the day is a great help.

I assume postings on Bigfooty have gone through the roof for the same reason.

Yup, I'll chuck up the data at the end of the voting year. Sorry, forgot to reply to this earlier!

I'm getting excited about who will finish second. Since we have a week break could we have the vote up to date by the start of the Tiger's game?

This brings up something. When do the votes get posted. I generally do mine the next day after watching the replay.

I'm hoping for three players to be the big movers in the next three games: Hippy, McStay and Andrews. If this happens we are in.

Thanks once more.

Just reaffirms that we, as supporters, tend not to rate defenders.

Very much so. An onballer get 25 possessions and his direct opponent(which given the ridiculous nearly unlimited interchange might be 5 different players)) gets 25 and they all are said to have played a good game.

I avoid giving on ballers votes as I have no idea if they have beaten their man and either does anyone else.

Random Notes:

- Lachie Neale's tally of eleven best on grounds beats his tied record with Dayne Beams of seven.
- Lachie Neale polled the most amount of votes with 68, beating his 59 votes from last year.
- This season had the largest margin between first and second, 41 votes margin compared with the previous largest, a 19 vote margin between Lachie Neale and Dayne Zorko from 2019.
- Lachie Neale's five best on grounds in a row is a new record.
- Lachie Neale polling in the first six games of the season is the most consecutive polled games to start a season.
- Lachie Neale has probably created a bunch of other records that I haven't thought of, but it is worth noting how impressive his season numbers are considering the reduced number of games involved.

I've attached the raw data spreadsheet for the year. Let me know if you notice any errors.
