Who wants to sign up for all the fun and excitement of being a player sponsor for 2020. If this sounds like something for you then register your interest here to be included in the sponsor draft which will commence on Monday, December 9

But first a recap of the rules
  1. The final draft order is generated randomly. Being first to sign up doesn't guarantee you a high draft pick when the draft occurs so please bear this in mind.
  2. The draft officially kicks off on December 9th
  3. Participants are given 24 hours to choose a player from the moment the person before them picks otherwise it rolls over to the next person.
  4. People who have missed their chance can still come back at any time and take their pick at any time provided there are still players available
  5. Be courteous, once you have taken your pick message the person after you and let them know it's their pick either via a tag or giving them a PM
  6. You can only choose a player from what's available, if you miss out on the player you wanted then make the most of what's left and throw your efforts into being the best damn sponsor for the person you can pick.
  7. Once you have selected your player you can't change your mind and pick someone else so please choose wisely
  8. As always there will be standbys, if it gets to the end of the draft and there are players still available due to missed pick at which point they will go live until all players are picked
  9. Once you have selected your player feel free to head over to the nest and start posting in your players thread which should already be there. PM me if it isn't and I will create one for you
  10. There are 43 Eagles players currently meaning there are 43 picks to be taken pending finalisation of our list
  11. The draft is available to Eagles supporters only
  12. Normally the 5 posters adjudged by the people to have done the best job of sponsoring their players will get the top picks the following year but this didn’t happen for 2019 so there’s no priority seeding this year
If we get enough people we will do 2 drafts, but let's worry about getting enough for 1 first.

I was going to skip it this year, but if you're struggling for numbers I'll go again.

Record low voters in the MVP threads all season, no PSOTY thread and no word on a POTY thread.

Premiership hangover extends to Bigfooty it seems.
I reckon a lot of people have started to realise how corrupt and inept the AFL are and have stopped following the game as closely as they used to.

Good thing this forum is really accessible to new posters and not just a huge collection of in jokes.

The criticism of the Eagles board is, it's posters are consumers, more than they are supporters. They create an account, which is really only revenue raising for Chief, post during the changes thread, then go home. Or, they turn on the game on tv, when it's over, they log out. They consume bigfooty as a product, and think that is being a supporter.

Consumers do not do things like, turn up to join the Sponsor Draft, that's something supporters do.

Are bigfooty Eagles board posters consumers or supporters, in your view. What do you see yourself as?

The Sponsor Draft is part of the board. It isn't as important as the POTY thread, but it is part of the board.

A complete lack of interest would certainly imply a culture of bigfooty consumerism masquerading as support.

Well, that's definitely someones criticism, but I'd stop short of calling it THE criticism.

It would require more effort than I'm willing to put in to care enough about it in order to generate an answer to that question.

I've followed the team since they started playing in 87, though I didn't care in 86 because I'd never seen a game before. I've been a paid member since 2007, and I'm now a paid member of the womens team too. I really enjoy watching the game when we're winning, and less so when we're losing. I've gone home at half time twice. I've never been to a grand final despite living in Victoria from 2007-2012. I've barely ever posted in the changes thread.

Clearly I'm not obsessed, just a fan. I'll let you decide whether you think I'm a consumer or a supporter, largely because I'm not a fan of binaries.

I've sponsored the last few years. I was going to let someone else take my spot this year because the sponsorship spots usually are all gone in 3 days and I haven't done that great a job for a couple of years now. This year is really unusual.

A complete lack of interest would certainly imply a culture of bigfooty consumerism masquerading as support.
Only if the same number of people (or more) are making the same number (or more) of posts as last year. Otherwise it's definitely not that.

My pet theory is that the world political climate is polarizing online conversation to the point where only people with thick hides can be bothered discussing something as trivial as footy anymore. It might just be me, but I feel the jerks have become bigger jerks lately. Almost like something is emboldening them.

I look forward to checking peoples supporter credentials at the door unlocking a new surge of activity here though. That sounds sure fire to me ;)

The problem is people with a different opinion get jumped on until they leave. Sure guys like HT might be annoying but they make the board a lot more interesting and they promote conversation. There's no discussion anymore because no one can handle the fact that people might possibly think differently to them.

You mean ruthlessly robbing anyone who doesn’t get a board meme is a bad idea?

No thanks, chief.

It was my understanding that no amount of jumping on HT would make him leave. Bad example?

Also getting this board to agree on anything is like herding cats.
