Taking Minchington is the more prudent move because he more fits the areas that we're lacking for depth. Cassar might end up a good footballer, but I'm not sure we're too hungry for back flankers, particularly ones that likely won't see game time for a couple of seasons.
Actually Cassar can play back and forward.

To the degree we need him to?

That's the issue, particularly considering his uncontested percentages. He could make a decent footballer but the club needs someone who is physically ready.

Cassar looks physically ready... has good speed with a 3.01-second 20m sprint, as well as has good endurance.

But his average tackles, at 2.6 per game, is the concern (note: he did have an 8 tackle game a few years ago).

I’d like to see the spot held open until the MSD with both Cassar and Minch playing at Box Hill as pressure forwards in a good old fashioned tackle / pressure “shoot out”.

Finn Has the physical attributes, but playing him there means not developing him in inside/outside midfield roles, which are probably more valuable in the mid-long term.

Olli isn’t & from what I’ve seen & read, will never be a pressure forward.
Worpel’s initial games in his 1st year in the AFL were played as a forward... I’d think the question for the Hawks is whether it is better for Finn to do his apprenticeship in the VFL midfield, or get early exposure to the elite level as a pressure forward. Both have merit... I’d not be surprised if Finn follows Worpel’s development path.

Yes that too, although like father son picks it can be tricky to speculate on where they would go in an open draft. JOM was certainly the standout, but if the team with the #1 pick really felt they had a stacked midfield and were shallow in KP or rucks it is possible he'd have dropped a place or two. Patton for example went #1 that year.

If you look at the 2011 draft we've done pretty well out of it for a team whose first pick was 33. From that draft we now have Patton, JOM, Wingard, Tom Mitchell and used our pick 33 on Hill. Those kind of numbers really make a mockery of those folks on the main board who criticise Hawthorn for "ignoring the elite end of the draft". More than one way to get elite talent onto your list.
Wasn’t Luke Breust in that draft too?

We could have both, place Impey on the long term injury list. An we have two positions open. Let there be some healthy competition on our list.

Given he will be, you'd think they'd just get it done.

Isn't deadline March 1?
They get to play him tonight and see how he pulls up from a match/plays before making the decision

Deadline for the PSS isn't until March 13 so why rush the formalities if for all intents and purposes he still gets to do the full training and match practice until then. Still have three weeks to see how his body holds up backing up games.

Any update on Fionn O'Hara?
I don’t have an update but this is a good thread to add some research

O’Hara has a similar profile to Nash as a talented footballer and rugby player.

The 18-year-old played at midfield in the Leinster minor championship for Westmeath last year and is also an Ireland U18 rugby international, scoring a try and two conversions against Italy last November.

It's understood that Hawthorn have been monitoring O’Hara’s progress and in communication with the St Loman’s man and his family for a number of years but this is his first time participating in training with legendary head coach (my bold) Alastair Clarkson’s playing group.

While there has been plenty of negative commentary surrounding the recruitment of GAA players, it is notable that AFL clubs can be attractive to young players such as Nash and O’Hara, with prospects of professional careers in rugby closer to home.

The criticism has been ramped in the wake of Adelaide offering Tyrone All-Star McShane a trial, even though he is not the first established senior star to be given the chance, with Tommy Walsh (Kerry) and Ciarán Sheehan (Cork) both making the switch after winning All-Irelands.

McShane arrived this week and will be looking to put his best foot forward in the hopes of earning a contract as a Category B rookie.

Hawthorn has two Category B openings, while Adelaide has one
