Don't have access to the article but I'm guessing it revolves around these tweets.
So he just made a criteria and Richmond don’t qualify?
Bizarre logic. He basically seems upset that a dynasty might come along once a decade rather than once every half-century.

Frankly, it's like arguing that if the government decided to make the first Monday of every month a public holiday then we couldn't call them "long weekends" because how could a weekend be "long" if you're doing it every month?

Yeah. Nah. How often a dynasty happens has absolutely no relevance to whether it's a dynasty or not.
Look, if 3 in 4 isn’t a dynasty I’m fine with that. We remove Geelong from 07-11, Carlton 79-82, etc. Probably left with Collingwood 27-30, Melbourne in the 50s, Richmond 67-74 and Hawthorn 83-91. There might be others but not too many.

Thing is, we’re still going and have a chance to join the four mentioned above. Truly elite group and the Tigers would be in there twice.

Our lawyer friend was most persuasive. Four dynasties in two decades is too many.

We need a proper checklist to whittle them down:

Q1: Were all grand finals won easily, disposing of potential rivals in a perfunctory manner, by a considerable margin?

Q2: Was the club's all-finals record as good or better than the combined home and away record?

Q3: Was the club treated worse than potential rivals by the umpires, the media or the general public?

Q4: Did the club not just have the best team, with the best coach, but the undisputed best player as well?

If the answer to any of the above is negative then it was not a dynasty, Brisbane, Geelong and Hawthorn.

I hope that clears it up.

That first Tweet defies logic. Let's take the Brisbane, Hawks and Richmond 3 in 4 years. Right from that, we have 9 premierships. That means there's 25 left. So literally all he's saying is that there have been seven or eight other dynasties in the last ONE HUNDRED AND FOURTEEN YEARS.

David king throws 8 million darts at the board and occasionally gets a bullseye.

remember he said we couldn’t win without Rance because Rance was the system

I don’t mind king but my Daughter could easily replace his expert comments
I also don't mind him but a 90sec match preview revolving around "who tags Dusty" when all other games get a good preview shits me to tears.

Equality of opportunity doesn’t mean equality of outcome. You still need to do the work, development, coaching, culture. The winners are the club’s that get those things right. No silver platter.

How is it not equalisation when a team that’s been shit for 30 years breaks through and starts winning premierships?

i read this article this morning - he basically asked twitter what makes a dynasty and ended up setting extra criteria around sustained success (not just grand finals) - winning % over 72 over a 10 yr period, 8 finals series in 10 years etc

hawthorn in the 2010s and 1980s + ancient collingwood and Melbourne sides were the 4 legit dynasties from memory

Garbage article really - but certainly wasn’t written to down play our current side due to any WA bias etc

Don’t go on the main board, but was looking up an old post and ended up in a thread about overrated players when I found this post

Gee, it's easy to trigger you Richmond fans.

One premiership and you act like your sh*t doesn't stink.

“Can't wait until Richmond gets found out, and their bubble bursts, and their fluking of a flag is exposed as just that, and they sink back to the bottom.

Win two more flags in the next few years, then you can hang with us in the modern era.“

Needless to say I replied and brought up Danger as being overrated. Let’s see if that gets a bit more salt flowing.

holy shit this thread has bought the motherload of salt LOOOOL https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/thre...-leading-into-finals-is-an-advantage.1250868/
the amount of oppo flogs who shat on us bc we supposedly didnt win away from home, now that we have they are sooking that other teams did the same LOL
big difference we actually won the flag compared to other teams, so their original argument of cant win away from home is invalid

one of the biggest lols is a carlscum fan saying noone cares about the flag anymore, yeah noone cares yet he is still commenting on it LOLOL, rent free

So how far off are we?

Qn 1: we dropped a final in 2020 to a club who hadn't beaten us in 2 decades. So that leaves 2017, 2019.
Qn2:??
qn 3: 2017 we were every one's second team. 2020 was the Ablett story. 2019??
qn 4: Lions had the Brownlow medal, power had coach of the year, Cats had Coleman medallist. Nothing to RFC except the ** premiership.
Dynasties have end dates. Richmond getting 3 flags under Hardwick puts us with Geelong and Brizzy. I'd like to have Hawthorn flag record of 13 flags in 50 odd years. So say from 67. We have 8 already. 5 more so that we are the best club in the modern era.

For starters, it was a joke. Anyone can make up their own rules about what constitutes a dynasty, just like our lawyer friend did.

However, if you want to take it seriously, please read it again.

Q1: not a final, the post said grannies to exclude Brisbane 2004 and Geelong?
Q2: finals vs h&a - straight-forward, that one.
Q3: all, taken over the whole period to exclude free-kick Hawthorn.
Q4: all, taken over the whole period.

That's the problem with dynasties. Everyone has different ideas. That was the whole point...

None of these (or any in the VFL/AFL argument) are really 'dynasties' at all. By definition it requires a 'hereditary line of rulers', or in AFL terms, a continuation of success through a large changing of personnel. Successful clubs (over 3 - 5 year reigns) tend to have little change in the teams that win flags: Brisbane had four differences in the 2003 team compared to 2001, Hawthorn five from 2013 to 2015, and we had six this year compared to 2017. Cats had eight over their five-year stretch.

And most of those changes were bit players, with the exceptions of G.Ablett, Buddy and Rance.

Hawthorn's 2008 to 2015 is closer to the mark, but the '08 win was one out of the bag and not a point of 'ruling' the competition.

Semantics? Yeah, but I just want to get involved.

Where does he come up with this shit?
Who goes to this depth just to bring down another’s success down?

No doubt this guy thinks the earth is flat too

This pricks house must be made out of bitter salty tears!
Just pathetic

and who gives a **** whether it’s called a dynasty or not? It’s only for pathetic insecure flogs like him!

We are bloody successful, that’s what we are! Doesn’t need no title
