TRAINING NOTES: Slender Josh Kennedy hits the track while young forward Jarrod Cameron makes huge strides in injury recovery

The Eagles and Dockers will resume normal training from Monday for the first time in almost two months

West Coast players hit the track today at Mineral Resources Park as the journey to the season restart took a huge step in the right direction.
Groups of seven players and one coach did a number of non-contact drills under the watchful eye of coach Adam Simpson.

All-Star Group
West Coast's first choice midfield group showed they had not lost their touch during isolation.
Under the watchful eye of midfield coach Nathan Van Berlo, captain Luke Shuey was joined by Nic Naitanui, Elliot Yeo, Tim Kelly, Dom Sheed, Jarrod Brander and Andrew Gaff showed how it was done.
The ball barely hit the ground as they displayed the skills which has them rated one of the best midfields in the competition.

Firing Cameron
Small forward Jarrod Cameron looks better for the break, running around freely and kicking with his teammates after an injury-interrupted pre-season.
A public bone injury limited him to walking and jogging laps before round one, but today he was back to his silky best, minus a few kilograms.
The eight-week forced lay-off appears to have helped Cameron immensely, with him appearing to be well and truly in the frame for Gold Coast hub selection.

Slender JK
It looks like all the running alongside Brad Sheppard has paid off for Josh Kennedy, who looked trim and firing as he trained alongside the forwards group.
The 32 year old looked ready for the shortened games, which could see him playing more game time come round two.

Just got excited all of a sudden

I'm excited!

The break probably worked well for us.

McGovern (foot), Barrass (foot), and Kennedy (elbow), Duggan (thumb), Cole (thumb) were all under some form of injury cloud. Round 1 was probably a couple of weeks earlier than what we would have liked with some of our stars rushing back and being a tad underdone.

Cameron and Allen being fit makes our forward line look, on paper at least, much more balanced and dangerous than it did in round 1.

We had a pretty healthy list going into round 1? Only a few that were a bit underdone + Cameron.

We had a couple of surgeries in the off season which impacted a couple of players pre season, plus a couple of injuries to players in the marsh series.

Availability for round 1 was pretty good, with potentially a few players carrying a few injuries.

Allen (hernia/anke sprain) - did not play
Kennedy (elbow) - played
McGovern (foot) - played, underdone
Barrass (foot) - played, potentially underdone
Cameron (groin) - did not play
Cole (broken thumb) - did not play
Duggan (thumb sprain) - played
Williams (hamstring) - did not play

Flyin’ Ryan
Normally Liam Ryan has this nickname for his ability to take hangers like no other, but today it was apt given his excitement to be on the track.

The premiership forward was all smiles as he ran around with his teammates and even celebrated a goal like there was 50,000 fans watching.

Smooth Tim
Exciting recruit Tim Kelly not only returned in good shape, but had the footy doing things with the footy which should excite any West Coast fan.

The smooth mover was nailing targets alongside some of his classy teammates, but everything he did just looked effortless. No doubt he is hungry for some footy.

Dusty Shuey
West Coast skipper Luke Shuey not only ran out with a smile and determination this morning, but also a new haircut.

The Norm Smith medallist was rocking a mohawk not to dissimilar to that of Richmond star Dusty Martin.

Chipper Simmo
West Coast coach Adam Simpson always looks fit enough to still be playing but today he looked as if he was.

The premiership coach was happily jogging around the oval, with a noticeable spring in his step, as he watched his boys return to the track for the first time.

Nic Nat Natural
Star ruckman Nic Naitanui joined the top midfield group, which was always going to happen.

But what made it more special was his ability to not only keep up with his smaller teammates, but his precision with the ball as he matched it kick for kick with the likes of Shuey and Kelly.

Does the fact they had just one ruckman with the prime midfielders mean they are set to just play the one during the season.

"Little bit of first day of school about it (returning to training), but really exciting we're one step closer to getting up to the 'Goldie' (Gold Coast hub) and getting the season started again," Shuey told westcoasteagles.com.au.

"We're pretty much (split into groups along position) lines at the moment ... just getting to work with the guys you play around most weeks and getting a bit of chemistry back and I think next week we can start a bit of contact (work).

"Trying to ramp (up our workload) as quick as we can, hoping that most of the guys have done their work which it looks like most of the boys have and we trusted everyone did, so we can get into it pretty quickly."

Noticed that all the players look skinny, like no weights have been lifted in 2 months

They had a lot of footage of Victorian based players rocking up to training and they all look quite skinny as well.
