Game Day 2020 Round 7 Purple vs Blue and Yella

Spot on mate. Nuffies on here giving Tabs sh*t, without realizing he's literally been one of the best key forwards of the comp this year.

Those stats are very impressive, more so when you realize he plays in one of the youngest teams, who sits 15th and receives horrible inside 50 delivery.
Forwards lines to work properly, multi pronged attack, in a perfect world you could bring Dixon or McCarthy in.
Tabs with Lobb takes care of McGovern, Barass.
We have no structure, and need 2 Walters, at the feet of our talls. How good would it be to play another mid or mids with Walters forward?
Blaming Tabs is lazy. Especially with how many inside 50's, midfield setup is wrong. Defensive forwards, coach needs to take some of the blame.
Yeo is played as a run with player, where is ours?

Get the Tabs’ momentum. But we’re 30 points down. Absolute no chance at 3/4 Time. The momentum was loss in the second quarter within that 5 minute span. Clearances resulting in goal. Got to 20 points behind and never came back.
Our midfield got bullied in that time, and Tucker/Mundy were woeful.
West Coast adjusted, we didn’t. Tabs was breathing fire in the first. Pity not one pleb in the forward line joined him.
He killed the momentum way before that with the Reiwoldt play on in the goal square. Momentum would have well and truely been with us if he slotted that and i dare say his confidence as well likely through the roof and likely would have had a blinder.

Wtf are you on about! He kicked another goal about 2 minutes later.

He kicked another after that. He was still upbeat. Monstered that quarter. Pity we have no KPFs, Hogan, to help him. Because another one and Freo would’ve been more dangerous. It is what it is

Just making excuses for him he could have had 3 goals in the first and we finish the 1st quarter leading the eagles. That would have made a big difference to the momentum IMO.

I suppose it is more the way in which he coughs up goals it just makes everyone cringe and i have no doubt it would lower morale. He is great at getting the opportunities but pretty average at taking them.

He is just so frustrating because he could be so good...

yeah agreed. I'm not sure if he's ever going to quite get there. But compared to what Hogan is offering us at the moment or the rest of the forwards......

He's a top 10 key forward in the competition on current form/production this season.
Tabs compares favourably with any of the key forwards this season. Jeremy Cameron is as good as any with an experienced midfield & established gameplan moving the ball his way.
Tabs isn’t disgraced in comparison.

Tabs is just Tabs. No other way to describe him.

The mistakes are glaring and memorable but also go some way to taking the polish off the excellent work he does presenting as a target in addition to his ability to consistently chip in with a couple of goals. That might not be enough in a grand final winning team but right now he's contributing well regardless of his occasional * ups. You can't say he hasn't grafted hard to get where he is currently.

Maybe that's an indictment on the state of the team atm but I hope he at least gets a shot at playing the CHF role with another in-form tall to work with if/when we have a good midfield that are capable of providing him better service.

Sure but most of them don't miss soda's regularly and have cat 10 brain farts. Probably have a better spread of goal scorers across their teams too...

And if he didn't miss sodas and have been farts he'd be the number 1 key forward in the competition.

And if Bailey Banfield took marks everytime his opponent lead him to the ball inside forward 50, and then he always kicked straight _he_ would be the number 1 forward in the competition ...

Or if Darcy Tucker won the clearance every time he was in at centre bounce, then he would be the #1 midfielder in the competition ...

And if Morabito didn't suffer knee injuries he would have been the #1 player from his draft ...

We could go on with these make believe scenarios buy they don't get us any closer to what is actually happening out there on the park.

Tabs sucks the oxygen out of the room when he missed those shots.
When lob missed you know he kicks the next 1.
When tabs misses you know he won't get another for the game..
If he gets it sorted he would be pure gold. At the present he is a momentum killer who loses games.

Absolute horseshit.

Our midfield got absolutely spanked, only kicking inside 50 26 times in a game of football and it's our KPF that's at fault.

As I said before, whose better????? Dixon keeps coming back unfit and Hogan's looking like a dud trade at the moment. Lobb has a few good games followed by a few invisible games. Nobody is claiming Tabs is a star but he's by far the best we've got.

Lobb stops with the stupid Kennedy shuffle maybe he kicks the goal.

We have much bigger issues than Tabs in the team.

They aren't as demoralising as htb in the goal square or missing 20m out directly in front multiple mistakes like this in one game, it's not un-usual either it happens like 50% of his career games.

Absolutely true. We didn't lose because of Tabs. He is undoubtedly the best Full Forward we have right now.
But he has been making silly mistakes his entire career. There is no evidence that the bone-headed plays will go away and he will now blossom into someone who should build your forward-line around.
We have invested a lot of time and games into a guy that can only play KPF and who we are still saying "if only ..." about.

Must be a key forward thing.

How much do we like to hang s*** on Jack Darling? Ended up kicking the same amount of goals as Tabs in a winning side.
Tom Lynch misses from the goal square.
Ben Brown & Taylor Walker are having shocking seasons.
Watch any dogs games regularly? Josh Bruce consistently sprays his kicks really, really badly.
Carlton are still persisting with Casboult.
Pretty sure there's vision floating out there of Pavlich making the same goal square howler. As others have pointed out Riewoldt did the same.

Obviously the natural comparison is to Dixon and Hawkins who are having phenomenal seasons but they've both flirted with shocking goal kicking in the past.
Tabs will sort it out.

With the exception of Casboult and Dixon every other player you have mentioned has had at least one season of 50+ goals in amongst the howlers in the goal square.

The best seasons of Casboult and Dixon have returned far more goals than the best season of Tabs.

All of these guys have far more runs on the board than Tabs. Across everyone's entire career, Tabs looks poor when put in their company.

Good point. He definitely needs to have a game where he kicks a bag.

The problem with us & ball burners is we have too many.
Tabs ball burning is glaringly obvious as he does it in front of goals..
We looked like getting on a roll each time tabs kicked a point from well within range..boom, the team were hurting, ball goes back the other end & momentum is back with the slime.

I wouldn't mind seeing what Taberner could do if he has anywhere near to a full season (let alone two consecutive ones). The last time he got close to that was a number of years ago now (2016, which was his 4th year and he had 17 games for 18 goals - not exactly STWOF, but not bad in a struggling team). Touch wood fingers crossed and some salt over the shoulder, he gets a good stretch of continuity over the next few seasons. I reckon that'll help him no end.

True maybe he would develop better decision making and set shot routine/accuracy if he got a consistent run at it for a solid period of time.

Decision making is generally better with confidence and that can be built with continuity. Also would help with building connection with the mids and other forwards, which hopefully could mean that he acts more instinctively rather than trying to overthink it.

I don't think it's just a disconnect with the midfield, I feel like we have 6 individual forwards playing their own game. They don't seem to be working for each like the better teams do.
