Given that this footy year will inevitably be disrupted and shortened, is it time to use 2020 as a trial of a conference system?
  1. Two conferences of 9 - 8 x 2 home and away matches for each club - 16 games for each club;
  2. two conference final series - top 4 from each conference - esentially semi and preliminary finals - maximum 2 games each;
  3. the winner of each conference playing off in the GF - 1 game.
  • Every team would play 16 games
  • The GF teams would play 19 games.
Big sky thinking here ... your thoughts?
(ignoring the fac that the AFL draw is pretty compromised by agreements for teams to play each other.)

Instead of Conferences why don't we just go full American and ban kicking the ball unless kicking for goal after a touch down, maybe also get players to wear helmets and shoulder padding, and change the ground to square like AFLX......................just leave the game alone, its ran fine for over 100 years until the loonies in the AFL started trying to change it to gridiron.
