The AFL article on fastest players is pretty damning of our list. When compared to other teams we look to be one of the slowest teams.
Maybe it was impacted by our game style. Interesting that our fastest speeds were set in rounds 1 to 4.
We need some speed.

As has been pointed out they were sold a vision of where we were at that was vastly different from the current reality. There is almost no chance we play finals next year and we are only really a chance in 2022.
If it is true, as has been speculated with Higgo, that some they have been told they are unlikely to get an extension beyond their current deal, then it is only fair we don't stand in the way of them being able to extend their careers by a year or two.

Yes agree with your last sentence, but being sold a vision that due to many things has changed, tough t***ies

For all this talk of players leaving due to us not being able to compete next season, who have we actually lost that is anything more than fringe 22 at best?

To date:
- 11 delistings and not one is more than fringe at best.
- a number of young players are able to kick off their 3rd and 4th (usually breakout) years
- Ben Brown is still not gone.
- If Logan McDonald is selected, he will play round 1 due to WAFL experience this year
- Backline likely strengthened by Corr and improvement in McKay.
- Several important players will be available again, especially Cunnington.

And move all senior players back to where they are most effective. We got experience into the kids and they are more prepared now.

Exactly, just look how we performed against flag contender WC in the last round - particular our mids (LDU, Simpkin and Jed) We have ample young talent to come back in and/or be better with another preseason. Thats one reason im big on going hard at Cameron, we're not as far off as people make out. Far from it in fact.

That's how I read it, we rarely go at speed because we either have congestion or a lack of players up the field which slows the forward of centre flow down.

They days of us falling into a one off performance or a couple late in a season are over I’d suggest. We rightly seems to be judging our list over course of the full season.

Why is Cunnington not tradeable?

Given his age, given the tough inside role he has played over a long time now, given his lack of aerobic ability and our serious need for pace, given the serious injury he is coming off, given his poor defensive prowess and accountability, given the midfield needs to rebuilt, you'd at least have to consider it.

For mine, Higgins, Tarrant, Brown and even Polec don't have this many question marks hanging over them.

I love Cunners, I was defending him on here when he was a teenager and everyone thought he was a wasted pick. But he is not untradeable.

We are not trading Cunners.

Pretty much as you would expect. We're not actively shopping but you really have to give them this option. You don't want pissed off veterans hanging around.

I mean seriously if the players that signed on Higgo, Taz and Goldy were presented with a scenario that we were finals bound and they did so for that reason alone they are as delusional as the club.
We were a mile off last year and it wasn’t going to improve much this year.
The signed on either due to being loyal to the club and culture OR for the money or both.
No one in their right mind thought we would make finals, if you did you are part of the problem.

Would you rather Mcdonald this year or Harry Mckay. I reckon it will take our number 2 pick to get him out. Anything less and it would be a no brainer.

(Damo voice): I wouldn’t rule out the Mckay brothers playing on the same team next year.

Don’t forget that there is an established connection between Teague and the NMFC. With a raft of value able draft picks and now that Ben has cemented himself as a defender and Brown will no longer be at the club, the thought of Larkey and Harry Mckay as a 10 key forward combination is something that Brady Rawlings will be acutely aware of.

LDU and Jy were green to be playing full time midfield roles, yet did so with little support in a shortened season often with 5 day breaks. Huge ask on their young bodies, minds and experience.

Besides if they're all as bad as people are making out then we'd still finish bottom 4. I dont believe we are so happy to go for a big Free fish that will make us better for 6 years or so.

Pretty clear that I’m very pro to moving on some of our senior players this offseason if we can generate some value through additional picks and spend the next two drafts really bolstering a strong young group. No more then 3 though imo - Brown, Polec and maybe one of Higgins/Goldy* (*only trading one of these two for overs, first round pick).

Cunners a big one I want to be there next year, as I think he will take a lot of heat off our young mids. Really rated Jed’s season but I don’t think he can bring LDU and Jy into the game as well as Cunners can, feeding them out of congestion.

Interesting thought process, remember when Anderson was dropped? For those that don't know that was due to how he played in the middle with Cunnington, we didn't want them both fighting for the same ball as it left us exposed on the outside.

Currently we have LDU, Jy and Anderson. Ando had his best ever season statically for us in 2020. One of the senior player bright lights really. even though his disposal shitted me at times.

Now I'd suggest we will be drafting either Hollands or McDonald I suppose. Should it be Hollands and then another bit of quality in the middle with our other first rounder. It adds weight to your point. Like you, I'm not suggesting we will trade Cunners, and like you I rate him and more than happy for him to remain at North. Although I've also been told he won't hang around footy and play until the age 33/34.
