I doubt it is about not wanting to pay the money.

PSD pick 2 and cap space? I don't see how we wouldn't do it.

If we were prepared to pay, he'd be at North.

Do you think he chose Carlton because he liked the jumpers?

This is a very singular way to look at what is happening.

He is going to Carlton because, Carlton are throwing money around.

We are trying to shake the perception of doing that. So coming out with a Cam Joyce, "hey I got wads o' cash come back to my place" type offer ain't going to happen right now.

But in a scenario where we pick up a player we have targeted for nothing but cap room, where we don't have to deal with * or his manager spouting to the media about us being big dick cash waving hooligans, IMO it'd get done.

I’m glad we are keeping Polec.

I still think the age demographic is wrong for us to be going after gun 26 year olds. Right idea, just not the time.

One more pathetic year OF, one more.

Then hit 2022 with the best young midfield group since west coast.

Simpkin, LDU, Hollands and Horne.

We could have an 80 year grandma at FF and she will still kick 50.

I don't get the fascination with Dow. He wasn't best 22 in a team that only won 7 games for the year, has average skills and pace. He's not what we need to help solve our problems.

I don't know too much about Dow other than both things you mentioned are incorrect.... he def has considerable pace and has good foot skills.... his issue are when he mixes the two together it looks bad.... whether he will make it I don't know nor seen enough

Its more about opportunity cost. IN a scenario where we are giving up nothing but a PSD pick and where we have ample cap room we'd be nuts not to take it.

It's also the overwhelming reason why players sign contracts.

Sure.

The scenario being talked about here is one where a deal doesn't get done between * and Carlton. Saad puts a price on his head and walks to the PSD.

In that scenario we take him. Because we can afford it and as you've pointed out money is a big reason players sign contracts.

What I'm talking about being singular is that it is cash alone at play here. It's not. It is cash + equitable trade value + the most belligerent list manager in the league.

In all honesty our position in the PSD probably adds to Carlton's need to get a deal done at the trade table. Because if they don't, we would take him and everyone will know it.

I keep going on about mio he has to be the one who falls out at Coll btw de goey Moore and daicos.... solid fwd... a little older than aiming as think he will be 28 by ssn start but grab him and lmac and the fwd line done.

Also like Clark although that spiel was a little contradictory? One paragraph says he dazzled in a defensive half back role then next paragraph says he is kept out of team to work on defensive duties?

Where does Dow slot into our side? There is no place in the midfield for him, given we will have Cunners, Higgo (at this stage), Jed, LDU, Simkin, TT. I like the romanticism of getting kids that BFNAAK, but that hasn't worked out for us in the past -> Mitch Hibberd
I'd be looking to get him on a hbf or rotating through the mids where he can use his pace. He's got issues with his disposal at speed, but still has time on his side to clean that up. IMO Carlton have ballsed up Dow's development by shoehorning him into a forward pocket and then an inside mid.

Honestly though we shouldn't be looking at players to slot in to positions next season, we should be trying to accumulate as much young talent that can develop with our young core. Especially if we can pick up that talent cheaply.

Keep in mind, with list cuts this year there is likely going to be a ton of fringe, young talent available for cheap as contending sides will prioritize their mature players to keep contending.

Yeah, I get it, you're bored and want to have something positive to talk about mate.

1) He wanted out of Tullamarine
2) I have no doubt Saad chose the best contract + the destination that would pay the price to get that trade done.
3) Therefore the logical outcome is that the trade is done.

I don't doubt we could have matched his contract, but we weren't forking over pick 9 for him, and I agree with that.

Im not across this years trade prospects so whether it goes deep enough to suggest giving up a low pick for a player like Saad, so its purely conjecture on my behalf but he seems a proven performer whereas draft picks and our ability to draft pick are the unknowns here.

Firstly, any player recruited because they BFNAAK should see the list manager sacked.

Re where Dow fits, if he is good enough, it won't matter

Agree if he improves then he will be putting pressure on the likes of cunners and jed initially but could also put pressure on LDU and jy which is all positive

When did Saad become an A graded? I might be wrong but I won't be giving up a top 10 pick.

* gave up a future 2nd to get him which ended up being 35.

He is 3 years older and I don't think he has improved that much that he is worth pick 7.

He ball watches. (Gets caught out watching the play while his direct opponent spreads).

Experience will bring awareness and it's nothing that can't be coached out of him

The bigger issue I think are his shoulders that are put together with sticky tape. (Then again remember Taz at the same age)

I think some are using Dildo to refer to Damien Barrett.

A label too good for him, IMO. But we're not allowed to use campaigner.

We are allowed to use campaigner, though. ;)

Just Doro

Even Dildos have a use, Barrett has no use in this world

Price is relative to where a club think's it's positioned, and Carlton ALWAYS pull the trigger too early.

This explains the price.

A full forward who can kick 60 goals a season worth less then a half back flanker, amazing.

Slobbo said a afl360 ‘Saad close to all Australian would be worth pick 7’.
So BBB was close to All Australian so should be similar but they peddle a second rounder.
Wonder who barracks for what team
