26 + 33 for Brown.

26 + 33 and 63 for Bulldogs Pick 14.

That would give Bulldogs a surplus of 250ish points

I think the Dogs will get better offers than that.

Likely in just two picks rather than 3, which would be preferable to them

Perhaps. Maybe we could trade into the third round with a future 3rd and throw that in too.

Wouldn't bother me personally. We just need more picks inside 20.

Agree, but the Dogs won't accept 3 or 4 junk picks for it. When someone like Adelaide can give them the same amount of points in two picks.

They have to have the list spots to match the amount of picks in the draft.

They wont want to take 8 junk picks into the draft, far more likely they try and engineer 4 x 2nd rounders or something.

Ben Brown is likely to sign a three-year deal at Melbourne as the Demons on Wednesday completed a pick swap that secured the No.33 selection that could get the deal done.

It comes as Melbourne shut down rival interest in midfielder James Harmes, who finished outside the top 20 in the club's best-and-fairest after being dropped for the first time in 72 games.

The Herald Sun understands rivals have inquired about Harmes, but he is contracted for another four seasons and will remain at the Demons next year.

Harmes battled for form after showing in previous seasons he can be a brilliant ball winner who is also capable of shutting down the opposition's best midfielder.

The Demons are keen to add to their midfield rather than dilute it and have rebuffed all interest in Clayton Oliver and Angus Brayshaw, also re-signing Jack Viney and ex-captain Nathan Jones.

The Crows traded their No.33 selection and Round 50 to the Demons this year for Melbourne's future second-round and future fourth-round selection.

The Demons could offer pick 33 to North Melbourne for Brown, who would clearly want a better pick given his goalscoring power.

North Melbourne has rejected Melbourne's suggestion that it take Tom McDonald in the Brown deal.

Despite North Melbourne pulling a contract offer that could have seen Brown make $750,000 over four seasons, he is said to be very satisfied with the contract length and financial offer put to him at the Demons.

Old mate Ralph is unstoppable, he's invented a time machine!

ARGGGGGH.

The value is the 26th and 33rd best players before bids.

You can't mash them together and get the 12th best player no matter what centrifuge you use.
Can't argue with that, but I think it's worthwhile considering a couple of other perspectives:

- the picks give us the currency we need to potentially trade up and get that 12th (or 14th, if we trade with WB) best player.
- even if we don't, it's not as absolute as that to say the 12th best player is better than the 26th or 33rd best player. Fair chance they will all be a bust, but a pick 12 might give us a 25% chance of a 200 gamer, pick 26 a 20% chance and pick 33 a 15% chance. (I have no idea what the actual odds are there, but someone did do some stats on that - RobZombie ?) So, overall, the extra picks might be better as it gives us more bites at the cherry.

If that's the only offer on the table what else can he really say?

Either this board is going to go into meltdown when the Ben Brown deal lands or the AFL Media are going to eat some humble pie.

So, the PSD for brown? You'd have to think so with what melb are offering. Surely.

Let's hope the latter!

Demons head of football Josh Mahoney told Trade Radio last week a first-round pick hadn't been discussed with the Roos for Brown's move across town.

However, a combination of pick 26 and another selection could help clinch the deal.

The Demons will also be awaiting a selection from Greater Western Sydney for departing No.2 ruckman Braydon Preuss.

"These picks this year give us some flexibility with upcoming potential trades, or again to improve this year’s draft position," Melbourne general manager of football Josh Mahoney told melbournefc.com.au.

I guess its better than nothing Ben.

So 26 and a second rounder next year for Brown?

I'd take 26 and 33, we can give them one of our crappy picks we don't want to use. If we take less then there must be something wrong.

Now I like the sound of that.... combination of 26 and now the newly acquired 33 will do just fine.... time to move on to bigger things
