Higgins for 30 is fair. I'd still rather keep a player of his skill though - it's not like he's going to soak up 850k/season for the next 5 years. But if it works out better for him, maybe it can be a win-win scenario. It wouldn't upset me if he got to win a flag (as long as Dangerflog was suspended for the GF and missed out).

We need to get Melbourne's 26 and 31 for Brown at a minimum.

We end up with:
2, 11, 26, 28, 30, 31, 70, 71, 81
Try to trade some of those picks for more picks inside the top 20.
And try to use the PSD pick 2 well.

Just on the psd.... while we have pick 2 do we still need an actual pick in order to participate or just need a free spot on our list?

Not thrilled with the idea of 30 for higgins.

I would have had his 'true value' in at least the early 20's
I don’t think we could squeeze Geelong out of anything more with the Cameron trade bleeding them dry.

It's not really.

Max King was being talked about as a generational draft pick as young as 15 years old. Along with Rankine.

McDonald is more of a late bloomer, he was considered a first round pick at the start of the year. Not the #1/#2 draft pick.

Despite his WAFL form, he hasn't done it against the best of his age group ~ as strange as that sounds.

And the few times he's played on DGB, he's been beaten.

The WAFL isn't some unbelievable standard, especially with no AFL players running around in it.

Jesse Hogan's year in the VFL was statistically far more impressive than McDonalds year in the WAFL. So it's not exactly unprecedented.

There's also the fact that (for the most part) big men take time to develop and the ones that develop relatively early tend to get hyped up a fair bit. Sort of similar to the big bodied midfielder type that has developed earlier than the other kids, will dominate the state leagues, get drafted and make an immediate impact, but then never really improves any further over their career.
Since they are so used to just using size/strength etc. they never need to develop any other strings to their bow. Whilst there will be others with obvious upside that while still maturing need to learn other ways to compete, and when their bodies catch up end up being more complete players.

I think sometimes people forget that these are just kids and the vast vast majority of them are nowhere near the same person they will be in a few years time physically/mentally/intellectually etc.

That is Geelong's problem, don't think other contenders want us doing them any favours.

Revealed: Cats' latest Cameron offer
JON RALPH

Geelong is prepared to hand over its earliest pair of first-round picks — selections 13 and 15 — to get a deal done for Coleman Medallist Jeremy Cameron.

GWS made clear over recent days that it was only prepared to accept three first-round selections given Cameron’s six-year, $950,000 a season wage.

The Cats’ previous offer was picks 15 and 20, having dropped a demand that it receive a third-round selection back.

With only a day remaining in the trade period, the Herald Sun understands the Cats are likely to offer picks 13 and 15, determined to retain one of their prized booty of first-round picks to go to the draft.

Was good while it lasted.

If he's tweeting confirmation, we can be assured the trade wont happen.

So it is not just about salary dumping if they are going to be chasing someone else.

Which is my only query with McDonald.

Most of the best key forwards were really athletic prior to maturing, so when they stack on the weight they still remain relatively mobile.

Those that aren't too athletic, once they stack on the weight become dinosaurs athletically.

Even someone like Hawkins, who is a monster now, was an athletic monster as an u/18. Broke high jump records at Melbourne Grammar etc.

JUH, M.King etc all show elite athletecism for their size.

Franklin, Pavlich etc were all like that as kids. Even Jack Riewoldt could jump on peoples shoulders for Tassie in the VFL.

I'd be far more comfortable if McDonald was a tad quicker or had a big vertical on him. Because some of the defenders he comes up against certainly will. You need something in the locker to get separation at AFL level when one on one.

The likes of McCartin, Schache, Boyd etc I'd all group as similarly athletic as McDonald. Which is a worry.

Tempt them with the 2 & 11.
You'd have to consider that Hojy or alternatively 6 and 7 for pick 2. This stuff will be left for live trading as I suspect the true value of pick 2 will be governed by who Adelaide pick at 1. If they pass on McDonald, watch the rest come hard for us and pick 2.
