Hey guys just wanted to pop in as I’m sure some others have and let you know Lachie Young is a great pick up, I loved him and sad to see him go. If we didn’t have so much depth/experience in rebounding Half Backs he would have got more time.

Great bloke from all reports too!

Real angst in my house and all the Pies contacts we’ve heard from. It is possible to feel sorry for individual fans and also enjoy the organisation being a laughing stock.

Absolutely it is. I've met thousands of Collingwood fans over the years, and today I feel a bit sorry for one individual one who I shared an office with in the late 90s and quite liked.

Walsh refuted Stephenson’s version of events, saying the club had communicated with him in the days after their season concluded.

“I really can’t let Jaidyn’s comments be etched in history as the version of what (happened),” he said on Triple M.

“I’m not say he’s been mischievous or anything, but certainly throughout the year on a number of occasions, Jaidyn was spoken to by teammates and coaches on what he needed to do to get back to being the footballer that he briefly displayed in his first year.

“That was reinforced to him on a number of occasions and then in the exit interview in the day or two after we left the hub – those points were all reinforced in terms of where we saw his career at that particular moment and predicted we it may ebb and flow depending on a response from him.

“I can’t let that particular comment go and remained unanswered.”

Stephenson and Bosenavulagi weren’t the only Collingwood players traded on Thursday, with Adam Treloar heading to Western Bulldogs and Tom Phillips making the move to Hawthorn on a dramatic day.

Walsh came across as a blithering idiot, which is surprising for such a smart and experienced operator.

Stephen never denied they had conversations on where he needed to improve and get better. Walsh never addressed the point of contention, which was that he was never told at any stage that he would be put up for trade and actually had to ring Bucks to find out what was happening.

All he actually did was reaffirm what Stephenson said, not refute it.

With the trade period now over, we look to the draft in December with great optimism and anticipation, and a great selection of picks.

Over the past week and a half, we have been able to continue to re-shape our list for the future and bring in some talented players from other clubs who will not only make us a much better side, but will really enable us to succeed and achieve great things in the coming years. This of course meant making some hard decisions and we farewelled some great servants of our club.

The list management team which also includes Brady Rawlings, Scott Clayton and Mark Finnigan, is solely focused on building a list that will have us contending for finals and another flag as soon as possible.

We targeted players to fulfil specific roles, and those who we believe have their best footy in front of them and can help us play an exciting and sustainable brand of football.

While we have prioritised youth and the next few drafts to achieve our goal of sustained on-field success, we know the players we will be bringing in will complement our existing proven players and stars such as Jack Ziebell, Ben Cunnington, Todd Goldstein, Robbie Tarrant, Jarred Polec, Aaron Hall, Jed Anderson, Luke McDonald, Josh Walker, Trent Dumont, Kayne Turner and Shaun Atley.

Each move we made was in line with our list management strategy. We still have the ability to sign some delisted free agents and swap picks right up until the draft on the 7th of December. We will look at all options to continue to build our list for success.

Our first acquisition, Aidan Corr, joined us as a restricted free agent, signing a five-year-deal after GWS elected not to match our offer. He is 26, and a versatile defender that can play on small and tall forwards. He comes with experience, having played 98 games including two finals series for the Giants since being drafted in 2012.

We also secured Lachie Young from the Western Bulldogs, as well as the Brisbane Lions’ pick 70 in exchange for our pick 63. Lachie fits the direction we are heading in and fills a need in our backline. At 21, he is an athletic rebounding defender who intercepts the ball well and has plenty of upside.

We were also able to bring in the talented forward duo in Jaidyn Stephenson and Atu Bosenavulagi from Collingwood. Stephenson won the 2018 NAB Rising Star Award, his nomination coming after a standout performance in Round 4 when he kicked five goals against the Adelaide Crows.

At 21-years-old, Stephenson brings excitement, speed and genuine goal-kicking power to our club. He also brings finals experience having featured in Collingwood’s finals campaigns over the past three years, including the 2018 Grand Final.

Meanwhile, 20-year-old Bosenavulagi will bring speed, tackling pressure and power that will be valuable in the front half of the ground. We believe Atu’s best football is in front of him.

Stephenson and Bosenavulagi were brought in with pick 39 from the Pies, in exchange for pick 26, 33 and 70, a trade made possible with the draft hand we acquired after farewelling Ben Brown.

We also farewelled Shaun Higgins, who together with Ben are two players that have been fantastic contributors, members and ambassadors of our club. I can’t stress enough how hard it was to let these guys go, but must reiterate that we are making such moves in order to re-shape our list and give ourselves the best chance to contend as quickly as possible.

Getting pick 30 for Shaun, and 26, 33 and the Demons’ future 4th round selection (currently tied to the Brisbane Lions) in exchange for Brown, along with our pick 28 and future 4th rounder, has enabled us to further strengthen our draft hand and bring in more talent, which is an investment in our future. Without the Brown trade, we wouldn’t have been able to pull off what we consider a real coup in acquiring Stephenson.

Our new Shinboners in Aidan, Lachie, Jaidyn and Atu add to an exciting group of young players which already includes five Rising Stars in Bailey Scott, Tarryn Thomas, Nick Larkey, Cameron Zurhaar and Curtis Taylor - add Stephenson and it is six.

Then there are the likes of Jy Simpkin, Luke Davies-Uniacke, Ben McKay, Kyron Hayden, Jack Mahony, Flynn Perez and Tristan Xerri who have all taken great leaps forward in their development. Charlie Comben is also an athletic key-position player who we have high hopes for.

We are confident this young group of players, together with our senior players will hold us in good stead for the future.

In 2020 we had the most players in the 26-29 age group but finished 17th on the ladder. That told us in no uncertain terms that we need to re-shape our list. As it stands, we have two first round draft picks (2, 11), as well as picks 30, 39, 71 and 81, and we like the position we are in.

Thanks as always for your ongoing support. I hope I have been able to shed some light into our thinking off the back of what we consider a successful and promising trade period.

Another article listing our kids and skipping over Will Walker. Pretty worrisome for him considering he remains unsigned. Hope at a minimum he is moved to our rookie list.

Mmm, am I reading too much into this or are they suggesting trading picks is still on the cards. I'd consider 11 for the right deal but as I said must keep pick 2. If a club is prepared to throw an unbelievable deal to get pick 2 you gotta ask yourself why... I'd hate to miss a generational player on the equally/greater risk of multiple later picks. Your odds of picking up a real match winner diminish very quickly. Only thing I could think of is if with so many Vic kids not playing they have identified talent they think will be around with slightly later picks... I'd hate to be a recruiter this year.

Gils talking about another trade period before the draft...Anything to help the bigger clubs...

I'm not sure this is a bad thing for us. We have cap space (yes, I've read the denials) and we look a lot sexier than we did 2 weeks ago.

Might be able to shake another one from the tree...

Hang on to your hats ladies and gentleman:

"[Michael Gleeson] The AFL are exploring the idea of holding a brief (possibly only for 24 hours) 2nd trade window before the draft in light of the soon to be announced list size and salary cap cuts "

Is that because Collingwood are still miles over the cap?

We are signalling to the market that we are keeping our options open and that is the right thing to do.

Doesn't mean we need to trade pick 2 - but we would be silly to close off any option at this stage.

Why do people still want him? He’s actually nowhere near as good as people think he is

I.dont want him.

I'd love for us to put fat stacks of cash infront of him to re-squeeze the pies cap.

They burn players to free room to overpay another player that they then have to burn players to free room again next year.

The Stephenson character assignation has already begun from Geoff Walsh on radio this morning, some cliff notes from the interview off the Collingwood board:

  • Walsh disputes Jaidyn's story. He wasn't working hard enough. Wasn't doing what was asked.
  • In exit interview, this was reinforced to him. The phone call wasn't the first time he was told of issues. It has been explained numerous times.
  • He was made "well aware" of short comings, and what he needed to do to improve - from coaches and team mates.
If true .. he is not the first 21 year old and he certainly won’t be the last. Whether this is the kick in the pants he needs and he flourishes... well, we will have ourselves a huge bargain. If not, we haven’t wasted a first rounder so who cares..
