I think a lot of us (myself included) missed subclause i about lodging the paperwork.
Presumably Dogs offered him the rookie contract, he knocked them back, then we jumped the gun in announcing our intention to utilise the rule.
Dogs hadn't lodged the paperwork and said actually Lachie if you want a spot on the main list it's yours, forcing a trade.
That's my best guess
