I believe that we already have two guys who fit the role of providing leadership roles on the field. Tarrant in the backline and Higgins around the field.

We clearly need more.... we looked like we had no leader those final games

Id be happy if we somehow get kennedy and heath shaw across as playing coaches. Both offer over 10+ years of experience and knowledge at either end of the ground and a good way to navigate our apparent lack of soft cap space. 2 list spots for senior veterans who will most likely move to pure coaching in 2022 would be insane for our player development and probably get more than 2 delisted free agents value wise. Could also both play for the occasional game too. Got nothing to do with Higgins maybe leaving or others getting delisted. Would be a master stroke at North and I'm all for it.

Yeh team morale would be great punting out loyal long term players and bringing in Dad's Army.

The only possible explanation for Heath Shaw as a playing recruit would be to effectively increase our soft cap via the TPP.

Pay him in the TPP, take up a list spot, but he's essentially a development coach.

Either way that will be a terrible sell for Shaw to the playing group as they've just axed a player/mate to fit his brother into the TPP, it's also a terrible sell for the coaching group working under him. We axed far more experienced coaches like Rivers and then brought in the coaches brother with 0 coaching experience.

This would be a pretty big cross for Brady if he gives this the green light imo.

If Heath Shaw wants to come over, he can, but he should have to work up from the bottom as the runner/bits and pieces coach, exactly like Boomer has been required to do. If we can't afford him in the soft cap, well he can work part time if he likes....


I think recruiting Heath, letting him pull a $200k wage from the TPP and implanting him as a playing development coach would be the beginning of the end for Rhyce imo. It's going to totally disenchant the playing group and the supporter base.

People had serious issues with Jade Rawlings and Jade had been a coach for 13 years, a VFL senior coach at Coburg and was Richmonds caretaker coach for half a season following Terry Wallace's sacking. I can't imagine the reaction to Heath Shaw.....

If we wanted to go down the route of a coach within the TPP I imagine there would be a long list of suitable candidates, former captains etc that didn't include the coaches brother.

We do already have a defence dev coach though in Scotland

Yeah we should permantely axe the position of a defensive coach. Obviously a position not needed judging by the angst on this board for a possible work around.
