Polk being a dudd is only enhancing the pain we are now in as he should now be ready to take the next step in and AFL team as a permanent and reliable contributor instead he gets a game and runs around with his head spinning getting junk disposals.
Sloane was playing injured in a team of old handbags and kids that aren't ready.

I get why everyone is melting down for various reasons, but i don't see why people are getting frustrated with our newer players. Just look what they have to work with at the moment.
EVERYWHERE on the pitch we are having major deficiencies
DEF - Hartigan and Kelly should NOT be getting a game imo, we have enough leadership down back for Talia, Doedee and Brown to be guiding the younger players. Swing McAsey down back for Hartigan i know we have the luxury of trialling him in different positions this year, but imo he belongs down back. Doesn't seem to have any separation or acceleration for a forward.
MID - Did we make some mistakes at the 2018 draft? Maybe. Are Jones/McHenry as bad as people are making them out to be? Absolutely not. You can throw a blanket over 20 games BETWEEN them... In a midfield that :
- has looked completely out of sorts since the 2017 GF,
- where we've traded out the Greenwood/CEY who were the only guys doing the grunt work (DEF capabilities aside)
- where we've publicly touted the possibility of trading the Crouch brothers, which i have no doubt has affected their confidence and willingness to put in the effort this year. Both of them look depleted, and i don't mean physically.
- where their captain has been unable to lead by example out of the middle this year
- where they have a Ruckman who is still working on his craft and is struggling to give us an advantage out of the centre bounces (ROB is improving around his stoppage work)
If anyone watched Ned McHenry yesterday, he did a lot of Stat-less work on the inside, where there was little or no options around him
FWD - My big worry here is that it's OK to have 3 talls IF they can chase or close down space to SOME degree. Walker, McAsey (less so), FOG and Lynch all have major deficiencies in their game when it comes down to closing space, even short distance. This leaves a monumental job for the small/mid fwds who i do not evny at all at the Crows, even Murphy. They're being asked close bigger and bigger gaps and teams are basically just walking it out of our forward line. I do like Stengle and McAdam, but i worry about their endurance to keep doing it over and over again. This DOES look to have improved a bit with the team pushing up the ground as a whole, case in point our 3rd Q yesterday when were able to keep them in their half for the majority of the time.
If we are to lose a few experienced players over the next few years i AM worried that the cut will be too deep, and our younger players will be left in no mans land. This doesn't help with retaining our new kids either, who could be on a plane home to VIC at the 1st opportunity.
Is there anyone out their who could be a circuit breaker for a few years, even just a YEAR, that won't cost us a huge draft pick (or a draft pick at all) but will still let us release Brad Crouch? Why not throw some $$ at a Burgoyne or Mundy with the promise of development coaching duties at the end of it? Just thinking out loud there!

This is a way healthier position for your list management people than I was expecting to see, they are all pretty good apart from Sloane. If your admins bite the bullet and go all in for a rebuild, you could turn some of those players into reasonable trades or get FA compo.
Talia should be the last one you ship out, he is a decent player and comes across as a decent guy as well, I don't see him as part of your problem, same goes for Lynch but to a lesser extent.
If you could trade out Smith & MCrouch this year, you may get more now than what you might in compo if they go via FA.

Too old, he'll be 30+ by the time we will be challenging again.
We need to mix up our defence. I just can’t fathom having Brown, Kelly , Hartigan and Brown that have no offence but rather kick side to side all the tine.
Wouldn't get rid of Smith unless he wants out. Laird more likely. If playing better would keep MCrouch till end of contract but best for both parties to split at end of season.

Always felt to win a flag you need about 6 high quality, club hall of famer, all australian level players playing at their peak.
Rest of the squad can be gap filler that does a roll, can follow instructions, has a good base skill level so not consistently turning over and converting opportunities.
Think aiming towards say 2025 years and beyond we need to recruit 10 of these potential hall of gamers. Of those, 2 or 3 won’t make it and 2 or 3 will go to other clubs. But 2 or 3 will go on to become stars who come from nowhere.
So, the 10 we should be building our team around and their age in 2025
1. McAsey 24
2. Jones 25
3. Fogarty 25
4. Milera 27
5. Doedee 28
I think that’s all we have on the list.
So need another 5 to come in. Should get 2 in this years draft. Maybe 3. Then aim for 2-3 in next years.

I think Hamill may fall into either a player who complements the big 6, or becomes part of the big 6 from out of nowhere. He's pick 30 at the end of the day. You don't select pick 30 with the idea they will one day win you a premiership. You select them to follow instructions and execute football skills.
I think thats been one of Hamish's errors in recruiting. He tries to find the nuggets at the end of the draft, instead of finding players that can execute the basics and not stuff it up for the star players.

Assuming the 4 stars are Rance/Lynch, Martin, Cotchin and Riewoldt?
Houli is an AA and should have won the Norm Smith. Edwards is AA and 2nd in B&F in a premiership year. The B&F winner was Prestia who I had in but took out as he hasn't had an AA yet, but probably more due to not getting a good run injury wise.
"The system they were in" is over rated. The system that works is having guys like Caddy, Rioli, Vlastuin who can do their role without stuffing up.
Free agents to leave -
Brad Crouch(possibly traded if we aren't happy with compo)
Hartigan - I would think Sydney could do with a cheap KPD to bolster their stocks.
Possible trade outs -
Matt Crouch - depends on who is interested and what his worth. If not we keep and hope he has a better year before becoming a free agent.
Laird - he is worth shopping around. We have plenty of small play makers to take his place.
Trade targets -
Jye Caldwell - definitely a player we would require. Pay him enough to entice him and he'll get plenty of midfield time. Possibly turn Laird or Matt Crouch picks received into Caldwell.
Peter Wright - could do with his ruck ability to back up ROB. Wouldn't want to use any high picks on him. Could be steak knives in a trade for Brad if Gold Coast are still interested and we force a trade.

Houli is a good rebounding defender, and most sides have one VERY close to his quality. Edwards would be so-so in any other side, as he had been for most of the rest of his career. That year was a blip. Every side in the league has at least one Prestia.
You're right with your final point though - their system is a lot of midlist players who are disciplined in their role.
