I just can't see us selecting players at both 22 and 23.

Take Hollands with our first pick, trade 9 and 22 to GC for 5. Take Thilthorpe at 5.

GC can then squeeze the lemon a little more and live trade 22 out for a small pick downgrade and an upgrade of a 2021 pick, which would be very valuable. GC don't currently have a 2021 3rd rounder, they could upgrade one of their 4ths to a 3rd. Pretty good 2021 hand.

He’s a 22 year old former first round draft pick who may well be desperate to prove himself following a season ending injury and a disappointing start to his AFL career. A last chance, one year deal on minimum wage might kick start his career. Or it might not. But now we’ll never know, because we instead re-signed a 33 year old fringe player... how is this good list management?
I'm desperate to run a marathon at world record time. But its not going to happen, like Gooch or Poholke having a successful AFL career (rumour has it Poholke is looking to play ametuers next year).

Sure Mackay is fringe, but that's a couple of steps up on those guys.

I think they're really struggling to fit all their Academy/NT lads in and some decent talent like Brodie Lake may even be available to other clubs because they can't fit them all in?

The draft and some new shiny toys can not come quick enough, these last 2 weeks has been nothing short of underwhelming.

Please for the love of God can we pick the right bloke at pick 1 and pick 9 we desperately need them to be superstars
Would you settle for one superstar, and one solid contributor? :D

Think it can be win/win if they dont want another pick this year. Trade 9 and Melbourne's 2021 2nd for 5.

That Melbourne pick could be pretty decent. Gives them a very nice 2021 hand.

Still got hopes of Hollands and one of the big guys!

same Holland’s and tilthorpe or Logan. Anything else a bonus. McDonald 1 and hope Holland’s slides

I think that high up in the draft the clubs all know who is taking who on the night. If we move up to 5 it's because we know we can get who we want there.

Seriously think if we end up with 1 and 5 we probably take who we would have taken with 1 and 2.

Interesting that Reid is quoted on the club website with:

15 months ago we were set on the pathway of a rebuild and realistically, with Covid and the hubs we’ve had, we’ve only had 17 games to expose the list.

Aside from recognising we haven't been able to put as many games as desired into our youth this year, we decided to go full rebuild midway through 2019, presumably after we started nose diving down the table.

What absolute rubbish.

Can't think of a single long term contract that has worked.

Franklin
Grundy
Sloane
Treloar
Boyd

The only one that even remotely comes close is 4 years for Mackay! But in hindsight, we probably should have given him 5!

The first i remember is Mark mercuri. Signed for 5 and his brother committed suicide not long after. He was a shadow of the player within months it seemed. Might have been a year or so, but there was a lot more bad footballer than good.

I'm forever hopeful, you know that.

Seriously though, he didn't start the year in the AFL side and if by some miracle Hamill, Sholl, Milera, McPherson and Doedee are all fit there SHOULDN'T be a spot.

Reid quoted as saying that we started rebuilding half way though 2019. Do you recall selection from then? It got older. Nicks will want to win games, we'll be playing our oldest team and they'll carry injuries as usual. Our rebuild philosophy is no different than our challenging philosophy when it comes to selection.

He won’t be on the list past next year. You cannot go full youth. It needs to be a transitioning period. I expect the crows to make a significant improvement next year and have 8-11 wins in 22.

If Dmac wasn't extended are you saying our best 22 would be full youth? Do you need Dmac's 'experience' in the side below?

Stengle. Tex. McAdam
Lynch. Himmelberg Jones.
Seedsman. Sloane. Smith.
Milera. Talia. Doedee
Brown. McAsey. Kelly.
ROB. Crouch. Laird.
Hately. Keays. Murphy. McPherson

Maybe North Melbourne.

I think list spots are going to be too precious, to be honest with you.

Wouldn't rule out a contending team either. He'll be good to go half through the year and probably comes cheap. The type of depth that could make a difference at the right time of the year. Unless rebuilding clubs offer more $, which is likely. And list spots aren't that precious, there's only 2 less, which we've always done @nyway and we just extended Mackay. How precious could they be?

IF this is correct, I don't get it ......surely if you've played 5 games this season and been delisted, you'd play one of the State based Leagues with a view to get back into the AFL

It's this lack of desire and desperation that is the reason players are delisted .....they haven't wanted it enough to work hard to improve ......of course they'll say they do, but there's always another level if the desire is there

How many kids have the Crows delisted over the years, to see them disappear to country leagues, amateurs, and old scholar teams

Talent is not enough without hard work .....and hard work doesn't happen without a real desire to play at the highest level

I think Scholl and Hamill have overtaken him

We find reasons though

Hamill was good to go for the last two games but we went with D Mac.

No point risking it... better safe than sorry... let you focus on preseason...

There will always be a reason to play it safe and we always will. And we have again

How is Tilthorpe getting to 5?

I was prepared to back Poholke against the criticism that he was too slow of mind. It's a positive that players hold the ball looking for options and as they get comfortable with the less time they have at the level, they'll deliver quicker and get caught less. He had some attributes, but he didn't improve in that area. I don't think there's any evidence that his issue was anything other than performance limitations. Perhaps he's had his crack and is happy to move on with the rest of his life and enjoy his footy. I'm sure that he'll take up another contract at an AFL club, but I understand choosing not to toil away in the semi-pros to earn an unlikely lifeline. Some will, some won't.

That's not the question, you said we needed Mackay because we couldn't go "full youth". We're exploring just that statement of yours. Does that 22 look like a full youth side? Apart from Stengle's suspension and possibly Seedsman, the below would just about be penned in as our 22 for round 1 next year. You can swap whichever of Sholl or Hamill for McPherson and the other taking Seedsman's spot. Plus Fog could replace a bench mid. Bu, do you consider that to be a "full youth" 22 that requires Mackay to remain on the list?

What I don’t understand with the Mackay contract, why now? Surely we would see what shakes loose in free agents? We could pick Mackay up in the PSD draft couldnt we? We’ve effectively locked ourselves out of opportunities.

Also Reid said we would look at godfather offers for pick 1, so that could only mean more picks, so again we have locked ourselves out of an opportunity.

Finally if we don’t use pick 40 because we kept Mackay I’ll vomit

Yeah, but real life. There is was no money in SANFL this year and no VFL, and not a small chance of the same situation next year.

Combined with reduced list sizes and a bunch of Vic kids who won't be get drafted this years who probably will next, given he's just been told he won't make it at the worst club in the comp, maybe he's moved on.

He needs to pay the bills, and maybe the demands of training and playing in state comps is incompatible with his other plans.

Personally no idea through, but I'd understand completely.
