Maybe read what I said and try to understand it

I didn't say they weren't good or ok players

Simply that they aren't capable of carrying a group of kids through a rebuild and keep us competitive.

And there's no room for other interpretations. We finished bottom. The results are there to see.
Ok champ.

Senior List
We had 38 players on our senior list.
We have delisted 7 (Gibbs, Knight, Brouch, Atkins, Hartigan, Gallucci, Poholke).
We will be adding Hately.

Senior List sizes will be 36-38 next year, so that's 4-6 positions available on our senior list.

Rookie List
We had 6 players on our rookie list.
We have delisted 3 (Crocker, Taylor, Wilson).

Cat A rookie lists will be 0-4 next year, so that's 0-1 position available.
Cat B rookie lists will be 0-3, so that's 0-3 positions available.

*** Note that there are minimum & maximum total list sizes (senior + Cat A rookie + Cat B rookie):
minimum total list size = 37
maximum total list size = 44
Thanks Vader . A very clear summary of the situation

Ok champ.
You're right

We won lots of games

And we didn't have to jettison players like McAsey/McHenry and bring back players like Mackay/Hartigan to make us competitive.

I wouldnt call them the older experienced type. Just good to very good players. Matt is a good leader.

Both are 26+ and 100+ games come 2021 and probably two of the more important older players we have at the moment.

We didn't have to jettison them back at all....but we chose to. Wrong move IMO, we'd have won those games without them.

Clearly I have more belief than you.

That's fine, the proof will be in the pudding next season

2 questions for you.

1) So you are absolutely confident we didnt do a single bit of tanking, we were giving it our all every game trying to get wins?

2) I assume you def wouldn't do this pick swap then, with north, 1 for 2 and a swap of next years firsts?

Depends what you mean

We started the season with lots of newbies and it was a disaster. We finished the season with a few less newbies and it was still terrible but at least semi competitive.

I think we thought we could be competitive with our senior core plus a group of kids around them but it became obvious after a few rounds that we couldn't be. Hence the SOS to Mackay and Hartigan.

We would have had a better season in terms of win/loss by keeping Greenwood and Keath, playing Seedsman and Atkins each game etc. We knew that going a different way would make us worse but I don't think we realised just how much worse. We over-estimated the impact our seniors guys can have on a game of football now.

North are probably the only club I'd do that swap with. Not much in it though. A minor upgrade next season (maybe if all goes well) and huge opportunity for egg on face. Probably wisest to leave it be

Roo even said during the year we didn’t expect our senior players to be so poor

Surely Laird showed enough in the midfield to think that will be his role going forward at least until he shows that he hasn't got what it takes for the midfield over time
The only worry I have with Liard is if he gets a Tag or gets close attention he struggles and rushes his disposable, might be different in the middle,

Maybe the old saying when you think it is bad..there is always someone worse off than yourself does spring to mind looking at that list of 1sts collingwood used

and Collingwood is getting a superstar prospect next year on the cheap

their problem will be in attracting players through trade, getting existing players to restructure contracts or accept longer term deals

that’s some damage not easily or quickly fixed

So collectively we on Bigfooty after some 20,000 posts across multiple threads:
Got the Crouch compo wrong
Got the Hately deal wrong
Assumed Hartigan was worth nothing
Assumed Atkins compo was band 3
Thought we would trade up for the Bulldogs pick
Thought MacKay would be delisted
Thought Kelly would be traded
And theres probably more.

In hindsight, we dont know shit and we waste a lot of time dreaming.

Everyone was saying Hately to psd.

I like your views however I personally feel Matt needs the right supporting midfielders to complement his skills.

If we have break out type of midfielders that Matt can feed the ball then his 30 plus disposals will be damaging.

Unfortunately since Dangerfield we haven't had such a player bench why drafting Holland's or Phillips will be a great move.

Currently Matt wins the ball and feeds it to flat feet creating stoppages or turnovers. Watch how quick this changes when we find some pace.
Well isn’t this supposed to be the reason we chose Chayce Jones. I really hope he’s given more of a chance next year to use his pace.

Everyone was saying Hayley to psd.
Yeah, nah.

There was a group who said we should, but the majority said there was 0% chance of using the nuclear option (and other hyperbole).

Mostly people expected us to cave and hand over 23, or GWS to realise they had no hand and take a pick they wouldn't use anyway.

Definitely not everyone thought PSD would happen.

Why would North or us swap picks? If we aren’t intending to pick who North wants they why would they trade with us? If we have our eyes set on someone why would we risk losing them?

The only high club that makes sense for a Sydney or maybe GC - but even then we trade with Sydney so they can get McDonald, North will still potentially take who we want

Imo we can only play 1 of Tex & Lynch for team balance... & for me Lynch is a better mix with Himmelberg & Fogarty.

Also, I would play Sloane up forward, with rotations in the midfield.

You are correct this is the part of the ground which we lack quality experience.

We will play Tex all year regardless of form purely because of his 200 games.

bloody oath I would..Collingwood 'could' be a slider next year and 'if' they fell outside the top 8 it would be another top 10 pick in a strong draft year
Looks like they will get a F/S in the top 5 so can be encouraged to trade out now and maximise this draft.

It would depend if we have collateral to move into the top 4-5 to grab TT, or if that falls through move back and into next years.
