I think that's just how Reid tells players they're not wanted. He doesn't know how to tell them that the club wants to rejuvenate the list and we have no choice but to let some older players move on, so instead he just offers them really shitty contracts instead and forcing them to look elsewhere.

On what basis? Roo, I agree with, but who has said there is a problem with Reid? I haven't heard Hartigan complain.

Care to give some examples and some other clubs who have done it better.

Not directly Reid, but he is one that handles the contracts. Greenwood seemed annoyed with the club, and I get the feeling there was more to it than just Roo.

Pretty much, but understandably guys like CEY, Keath and Greenwood don't have as much time in the game as others so they've taken better deals.

You might be right and it might not have been between the 2 of them. The timing though, of announcing it once the final list numbers were announced, suggested that we felt there was no room on the primary list for Edwards Now. I suppose the fact that we are talking about only taking 4 picks in this draft disappoints me, when we are supposedly in the middle of a rebuild.

I don't disagree given how good Hamish has been at identifying talent deep into the draft. But on the other hand, I think that he will have been consulted, and if the talent isn't there there is little point in making selections just to fill list spots.
I don't get re-signing McKay for a season, I'd rather keep a list spot for one of the mid season picks or even a DFA. What I do get is that Hamish will have ruled a line where he thinks the talent worth taking stops. We don't know where that is, but now I think that we have some idea just based on the selections they intend taking to the draft.

Hard for us to argue that they're valuable pieces.
