I don’t want to intrude but it only works that way for 1 in 1 out. 2 out doesn’t equal a higher pick as we found out when we lost chaplain and Pearce in the same year. We got 2 second rounders that we were hoping would combine for a first but they had to be seperate picks.
Possibly, however FA compensation is only a framework. There is also the following added to it ...

"In applying the formula, an expert committee reviews the formula outcomes. The committee has the power to recommend alternative outcomes to GM – Football Operations where the formula produces a materially anomalous result."

With list sizes decreasing, not increasing, I could see the Crows saying we would rather one pick, not two.

If the Crows only need 5 or so points to make Brads compo Band 1, the AFL and Crows could negotiate that.

No worries about intruding - but the case you mention is a long time ago, and I'm not sure that the rules wouldn't have been fine tuned since then.
Below are the current rules. Think he is talking about the fact that we wouldnt get any comp if we received a free agent as well. Only get a compo if its a net loss.

Compensation
A club that has a net loss of players transferring to/from other clubs as free agents in one transfer period is entitled to compensation via National Draft picks allocated by the AFL.

The compensation formula produces a points rating for players based on:

1. The new contract of the free agent;
2. The age of the free agent.

Draft picks are allocated to clubs based on the net total points for free agents lost and gained during the transfer period.

Draft picks will be allocated to one of five places:

• 1st round
• end of 1st round
• 2nd round
• end of 2nd round
• 3rd round

In applying the formula, an expert committee reviews the formula outcomes. The committee has the power to recommend alternative outcomes to GM – Football Operations where the formula produces a materially anomalous result.

here's another Port "Crows are copying us in everything we do" clown...............

you do realise trading players and coaches is part of the landscape?

Did you develop Bassett? No. You got him from another club.

Did you develop every player on your list? No. In fact your club has been referred to as the 'destination' club in recent years, meaning that you are getting experienced players form other clubs.

If you have nothing of value to add to the conversation then head back to the Port board.
They're only a destination if you don't have a clue where you should be going.

No, I remember what he was referring to. Port lost two players in the same year but got two later picks instead of a single earlier one.

I don't know if that's happened any other times, and what the ruling now is.

Might depend when they sign?

With reports the club is supposed to be showing some interest in Jack Graham as a mature age recruit, size and all round skill wise I'd much sooner be looking down the road at the taller mid Willem Drew, seen a lot of this lad as a junior here and there's plenty to like about his skill set.

He's a contested ball winning mid that works his ass off defensively as well as offering the ability to get forward and hit the scoreboard. Hasn't really established himself down the road yet with a few injury issues intervening at the wrong times for him and lack of AFL opportunities even though he's dominated the SANFL.
Out of contract season's end and likely comes cheaper than Jack Graham and IMO offers more going forward.
J am a Drew fan ass well from games last year . has had injuries but very attacking and skilled
is he contracted for next year

Sorry to intrude but what is the sentiment on Atkins amongst Crows fans? Is he trash? I remember him being a pretty decent outside player at one point.
Outside who doesn't like to tackle and goes missing when the heat is on, 100 game player, left-footer who can play well in patches but very inconsistent and resident whipping boy behind David Mackay.

Brayden Fiorini dropped again by the Gold Coast, excelled in the middle last year for them, very good hands, accumulates & gets uncontested ball and tackles well, just about to turn 23 & has been usurped by first Rowell & now Greenwood in the middle & shoved out into no-mans land this year. He’s another one along with Drew you’d be asking the question about.

Straight swap with Atkins. ;-)

Fiorini - issues with disposal?

Fiorini is only 23? Feels like he’s been there forever. I’d 100% go after him, he’s a solid player.

Hello all, sort of new around here but what are the chances of us getting Graham from Richmond?
He's slow and peaked in 2017 so I'd say he's right up our alley!

Do we keep Hartigan for back up?

We know that age plays a big role in FA compensation, there's a good chance he wouldn't make it into the last band of compensation, right?
Yes and ship off Jake Jelly.

He can play Tahlias role when injured and gives Mcasey a couple of years to develop. Mcasey is getting man handled at the moment, and I believe there’s a real risk we severely hinder his development playing him on the best talls.

Takes long time for key defenders... look at weitering pick 1... considered a bust for years. But becoming a star

With reduced lists predicted not sure we are going to find many trade partners for the guys not seen as best 22 for the Crows. Most clubs are going to have to make hard decisions about their own list let alone take on our trash.

Swinging the other way there may well be a few rough diamonds that are released as clubs cull to the new list size. Rookie draft could be interesting for teh Crows.

I also wouldn't be surprised if a lot of teams look to trade 2020 draft picks to next year given the challenges of list sizes and the uncertainty regarding draft eligible talent progression this year.
