Vader will be beside himself...with glee.... another list spot freed up.

“Bryce Gibbs will also be rookie listed for administrative purposes following his retirement this year.

“After list lodgements are completed, the League will consider Bryce to be officially retired and placed on the inactive list.

“The Club will then be able to fill that vacant list spot if it chooses to do so via the AFL’s supplementary selection period.”
Meh... I hadn't been counting him in my "list mathematics" since his retirement was announced. Good work by the club, handling it this way.

I'm assuming this means Bryce technically hasn't retired at all, and this is just a play to guarantee us a (likely high) pick in the supplementary draft period?

I like it.

Looked pretty good at the Championships in 2016 and was always one of their better players when I watched the NEAFL in 2018 and 2019.

This might refresh your thinking...elite left footer.

Well... when he gets the ball inside D50... he doesnt stop, prop, look sideways, pause, look backwards, pause, then just kick to no one... so hes an instant upgrade on Kelly...

No, he's retired. We have no choice but to keep him on the list for administrative purposes - much the same as we did with Sam Shaw, and Brisbane did with Michael Voss, after their retirements. He will play no active role as a player at the club in 2021.

Haha and a big chance of winning the Magarey Medal for South Adelaide while he's "retired" and "injured"... :fire:

I am really confused, is it possible for someone in the know to summerise how many picks we might have in the main and rookie draft?
The current state of play...

Senior List
We currently have 29 players on our senior list.
We will be signing Hinge as a DFA, and Hately in the PSD. They bring the total to 31.
That will leave us with 7 vacancies, of which we will need to fill at least 5 in the ND (minimum senior list size is 36).

Rookie List
Our Cat A rookie list is now full - Keays, Butts, Strachan, Mackay, Davis, Gibbs
Gibbs is on the inactive list, so we can select a replacement during the pre-season supplementary period.
We currently have no Cat B rookies. We are clearly hoping that Newchurch will make it through the ND, so we can grab him as a Cat B rookie.

On the supplementary period....

Because of covid; list changes and likelihood of draft prospects getting missed.
Will the supplementary periods potentially net us players from the ND who were missed?

Im not saying we will get a top 5 pick or anything but is there the potential to get someone missed from the ND who will likely be playing footy somewhere and we will get a read on their form during the year and have first access? Also, aren't there 2-3 of these periods? Do we have the first pick in each one?

Any player who nominated for the ND or PSD, but wasn't selected in the ND, PSD, or RD, can be selected in the supplementary period.

It's an opportunity for clubs to invite non-drafted players to train with them, with a view to assessing where they're at - given that we haven't seen them on the paddock for 12+ months.

Hinge looks pretty good in the videos people have posted. But how does he fit in? Does that mean we have other plans for some of these backline dudes - Hamill, Milera, Smith, McPherson, Scholl, Doedee, Brown, Kelly, Butts, Mcasey, Worrell, Talia, Gollant.

Everyone looks good in a highlights package, which is why I rarely bother watching them.

I'm fine with Gibbs taking up a rookie list spot if it's some sort of master-stroke to make sure we have a spot available in the supplementary draft period, instead of relying on someone to end up on the long term injury list?
Lol, Bryce hits peak form for South Adelaide & we bring him back in for the Crows...

James Matthews a chance for that Gibbs rookie spot?

Ayce might get a 2nd chance...

Nomination deadline for NGA prospects James Borlase and Tariek Newchurch was this afternoon but still
no news from the club. I get the impression that means neither James or Tariek were nominated by the club.

Under AFL regulations clubs had to nominate all potential eligible NGA and father-son selections by Wednesday afternoon.

I was impressed with the one game he played for us this year. Did not look out of place at all in only his third game. Would not be surprised at all if he turns into a bargain pickup for you guys. Disappointed to see him go.

Thanks but a bit hazy on the rules. On our 5th pick can we Pass and hope NGA not bid on for both to go to CAT B Rookie. We have the pick to match bids and use it in Rookie draft. We pick in the Rookie and a player gets upgraded to Main list when we finalise the list post draft.

Rather than pass, trade it out for next year pick with someone
