Lions’ New Offer for Cockatoo as Martin Move Looms (Fox Sports, 10/11)
Brisbane has offered a future third-round selection for Nakia Cockatoo.
Geelong is currently weighing up its options after asking for more than pick 53 in this year’s draft a earlier in the week.
The Cats offered Cockatoo a one-year deal on basic money, while the Lions have proposed a two-season contract.
Cockatoo, the former No. 10 draft selection, appears destined for the Lions, but Cats list boss Stephen Wells is trying to get a higher pick from his opposite number Dom Ambrogio.
Sources confirmed there has been progress in the last 24 hours, despite Geelong stating it would be happy to keep Cockatoo if a deal could not be arranged.
A deal was expected to be completed earlier in the trade period, but the main stumbling block has been Brisbane’s lack of picks between No. 19 and No. 53.
The club is also aiming to keep a few later selections for academy prospects and does not believe Cockatoo is worthy of a first rounder.
