I really feel now we don't really need Crouch or Wines now - last draft season I was wanting one of them but after seeing Jones , Gresham get a bundle of inside ball and clearances I feel it will only restrict our youth , because I feel Hunter Clark will be slotting in there in the future as well.
Also having Ross , Hannerbery , Steele and Bytel waiting in the wings bringing someone in would be a expense we don't really need unless we got them as a bargain.
Then again if we could get a Kelly , Whitfield or a Cripps I would change my tune.

1 game against bulldog witches hats has not cured our problems.

Remember when we started last year 5-0 beating garbage teams with supercoach richo?

Let's not be too hasty on declaring mission accomplished

Try 4-0 but yes we haven't proved bugger all just yet

I'm starting to think the same. Never been into Crouch, and Wines has only had one elite season and since then nothing to write home about.
If he fails to fire this season l think his price will be very low, so maybe as a bargain pickup but that's it.
We really need to see how Bytel goes.
If he's the business, then we can shut the book on it and just pump games into him.
Better then to get some quality like Williams and Caldwell, or Papley who doesn't get a mention for reasons unknown. He could well be one of these BIG names that Caro spruked.

Brad crouch has AVERAGED 28 possies a game for the last 2 years and AVERAGED 12 contested possies.

Hardly any of our mids get those sort of numbers in any given game, let alone get close to averaging it.

I know we have plenty of guys who don't do damage with the ball, but no way do we have anything like the elite accumulator crouch is.
I love a good discussion.

Do you want to pay Brad Crouch 8-900k/4-5years to sit at the bottom of a pack dishing hand balls out? Not exactly the role I would want him doing. I want him breaking through congestion and being a point of difference.

Now, don’t get me wrong - I would be thrilled to have him. But he doesn’t resolve our need for an elite in and under player. Maybe the next 15 weeks we will have someone step up and it won’t be anything to lose sleep over. However when the going gets tough like in round 1. We don’t have a big beast in the middle to turn the tide.

Again I want to reiterate. I would be thrilled to have him. But I have concerns on paying Crouch to be an in and under beast when I don’t think that’s his best role.

Stavro if you look at Richmonds midfield they dont have a huge inside mids, they have quality quick moving players. Martin is the exception but he plays 50% forward. I believe a quality midfield that can all win a contested ball is a winning combination, so add Crouch to our midfielders and we will have a pretty formidable group.

Plus we have Bytel & Byrnes developing in the background and be ready to go before too long.

Papley would be a good get - pretty sure he's good friends with Gresh as well. And it's Sydney who always look after us so a late 3rd is all it would take ;)

Terrible example mate when you look at their midfielder you have:
Martin -Arguably the best player in the league, Brownlow medalist, 2x norm smith winner, Leigh Matthews MVP winner, 3 x BnF winner .

Cotchin - Brownlow medalist,All Australian and 3x BnF winner.

Prestia - BnF winner

They are a stacked midfield. Plug Dusty in ours and we could turn Dunstan into a star because everyone would be Dusty conscious. Your not going to get the same outcome for us by bringing in Crouch solely on his own.

He hasn’t even played a game mate.

We just need Bytel to get on the park and play footy.

We needed Dunstan to have become that player.
I don't expect him to become that player this year, but he is the one that definitely has the capability to eventually become that bull that we need. If he can play a handful of games this year and show some signs at least it puts us at ease knowing we have something on the list already to work with. Plus, we don't have to fork out a million a year to pry him out of another club.

Similar to how Marshall came on seemingly out of nowhere. We were going back and forth over Hickey & Longer and then Marshall put it all together.

Spook's got some good leadership qualities but I think we've seen all we will see from him, honest truth I think he is trade bait at the end of the year. Not damaging enough for us.

Points taken I thought you were referring to elite extractors eg Cripps. I agree and have always said strong midfields win GF's which you have shown. We are not going to pull those sort of players out of no where but Crouch would add to our group and make us more competitive surely. Hopefully over time we can find our own Cotchin & Martin.

I'd hoped he would slide to us in the draft , but i wouldn't want to be trading picks or other players for him now.
Not when we have Membrey, Battle, Parker, and Mayo , all of which play that mid size tall forward roll.
I'll be disappointed if Mayo is a victim of reduced list sizes. He played some good footy in his half year at Sandringham, and i was interested to see how he would go after a StKilda pre-season. Same with Parker.
I guess Stephenson is better than all of them in that role but is he enough better to make it worth what we'd need to give up?
Stephenson is a small forward tho. Degoey is more of a mid sized forward when he plays there. Just imagine Stephenson and Butler around the feet of our talls 😍

My argument is that Crouch would have to win every ball based on our current midfield. He makes us better, but we would be paying a bloke ALOT of money to be an in and under player, when his best role is on the move and person 2 or 3 in the chain.

Have a look at his highlights from last season. 90% of his best work is on the move and not at the bottom of the pack. Unless Steele become an elite inside animal I worry we won’t see the best of Crouch and he would be on huge money.

Imagine De Goey deep forward, kicking absolute team lifters then moving on ball for 7-8 minutes a quarter and exploding out of the middle Hitting King and Membrey on the tit.

I would rather go big then a player I don’t see ever being more then a forward with electric speed and goal nous. De Goey is powerful, exciting and a touch of the mercurial. He was immense in the 18’ Grand final. Made me really wish we had him.

They are the same height , JDG just heavier

Unfortunately we would be no chance for De Goey ...

For me put Caldwell & Papley in our team .......😍

Pretty confident we have 2 very good players In Bytel & Byrnes providing they get opportunity.

Edwards .......very underrated

Lambert ........very underrated

The last time I checked, injuries can't be predicted and being drafted at pick 1 doesn't make a player impervious.

We cannot say, with any certainty, that it was the incorrect choice when Paddy's career never played out. He showed quite a decent amount of promise for a young KPF in the limited games he was able to play (let alone considering the number of matches he left early), all the while he was still unfit whilst battling through his multiple injuries.

There are plenty of things that should be criticised over the past near-decade, but that pick 1 is not the hill I'd choose to die on.
I keep hearing people talk about all this promise paddy showed. I never saw it. He had no natural forward craft, was slow, short and diabetic. He had no understanding of leading patterns and regularly cut his teammates off in leads. The few times he got near the ball he missed completely or dropped the mark. I will never for the life of me understand how we justified him at 1.

I know you were clear about still wanting him.

Just pointing out that we don't have anyone on our list that comes close to doing what he does- ie wins the ball, and a lot of it.

Our list manager likes to dream about De Goey.

Would love both of the players you have mentioned. Would need to rehome Lonie if you landed Papley.

Agreed, but there has to be serious concerns about whether we would see his consistent absolute best because we would have no one to do all the heavy lifting that gets you the best of Crouch.

Would viney as a RFA tickle your fancy more?

What I'd do for Matt Rowell right now. Has to be the biggest built 18 year old I've ever seen.

he looks insanely good. looks like a 25 year old.

i'm becoming a birther. i demand to see his birth certicate.
