Just remember we don't get anyone decent at trade time.

Who can remember the last time someone nominated us as their preferred club?
The 2019 trade period was one of the best I've ever seen, not because of who moved, but WHERE they moved.

The fact that Dougal Howard, one of the most promising young KPDs, was tossing up between two small clubs in North and Saints, is such a rarity. Then you add Hill and Jones to that mix, who both have a number of years of good footy ahead of them. (I'd consider the Butler and Ryder moves to be pretty standard trade period stuff)

Same for the Dogs - Bruce went from small club to small club so that's no big deal, but Keath moving interstate and nominating a small club was great too.

After years of Norf failing to land any decent targets, last year's trade period showed it's not impossible for the smalls to land good prospects

They are not taking us forward jwikked. They have set us back 5 years with their strategy of recruiting old guys. Not to mention we are always in deficit with our National Draft picks.

Butler, howard, jones all have 10+ years of footy in them.
Ryder is being paid minimum wage and will only get a game as a week by week prospect.
Hill is an A grade footballer with 5 years left in him and Hannebury cost us nothing but cap space we couldn't give away to anybody else.

We have in no way, shape or form 'recruited old guys' at the expense of the future.

Losing a player of any ability does not help the team.
Only gaining a player of good ability helps the team.
So.....
Great idea, lets dump Ross and
play McKenzie.
( Not a great idea....that ...was....sarcasm ).

By that logic you'd never pick young guns of the future ahead of seasoned, senior B and C graders.

The clubs that have remained competitive for a long time have all blooded young future stars at the expense of seasoned, experienced 'good' players- even though such an approach would hurt their results in the near term.

Noone is suggesting we replace a 'good' B grade senior player like ross with a potentially future B/C/D grader like D-Mac.

The suggestion is replacing ross with a potentially future A grader like clark.

Let’s just sack. Never worked but helps some supporters sleep. Seriously.
Tbh, l like what we have done over the last couple of years off field. We have struggled to attract top end talent, so first step is to change the coach and recruit players to make us competitive, so we become a more attractive destination club for the superstars. Also need good players around to help develop you draft picks. We might only be a couple of Lenny hayes types away from having a very good side. Wouldnt mind that Rowell kid!

About time to give some youngsters a go to see what we have on our list. Has Byrnes moved in front of Bytel as far as getting a game is concerned?
From all reports, Byrnes stood out more than Bytel in the scratch match and Ratts has talked him up a few times since returning from the shutdown so I wouldn't be surprised if he's closer to debuting.

Its pretty sad isn't it when its only round Three and we are onto the trade debate , wouldn't it be nice if we could have at least got half way through the season before we were trying to ship blokes off .
It really just shows the frustration that us poor bastards are going through and just being saints supporters in general.

At least Dmac would have a crack ;)

True but it is the state of our midfield that has caused it and has for the past decade! We have had cracks at a number of GWS players leaving, but the common theme was they all wanted to go a bigger club, plus I think having Richardson as coach held us back considerably in those chases.

Also I would like to see Ed Philips get another run thru the midfield.

Running is not his problem kicking the ball to one of our players is.

Ratten was impressed with his work rate ( hence why he got JLT game )but there are a lot of them
in front for mine ...love Ratts but there have been some mysterious selections/ non selections early on.

They are completely different players Byrnes is explosive out of stoppage, Bytel is your accumulation type elite
hands , vision , short kicks either foot hits targets.

Spot on , He is well down the pecking order IMO

some younger types that are in the 2nd last year of their contract i.e. before they fall out of contract. we've seen club's target these players as their current club can be open to letting them go given the risk of receiving less the following year:

Cameron Rayner
Hugh McCluggage
Rhys Mathieson
Adam Cerra
Andrew Brayshaw
Charlie Constable
Sam Menegola
Joshua Kelly

some of these are unrealistic but some others are like Constable i think could be worth a shot

Doubtful. I think they didn’t want to come. He was also the person who created Covid 19 and caused the drought.

He is probably worth a shot because his deficiencies are pace and skill. Not sure he helps us even though I would have taken him in the draft. I’m not sure how Sam menagolia got on that list.

They are suggesting "trading him" for " peanuts". which is akin to throwing him away.
He's not high on the throw away list, hence my McKenzie reference.

On the Ross front, Trading him could open up a few fronts. I think it goes back to go forward though. Unless it brings a Wines/Crouch in. It would also play our hand at the draft as we would have to go for a mid.

Trade 1:
Essendon give: Pick 15
St Kilda give: Pick 67 and Ross

Trade 2:
St Kilda Trade: Pick 15
GWS Trade: Pick 29 and Caldwell

Trade 3:
Port get: Hately and pick 44
GWS get: Future 1st and Pick 37

Trade 4:
Port get: a future 2nd, pick 73 and Luke Dustan
Stk get: Ollie Wines and pick 36

Trade 5:
Port give: pick 21 and 44
Stk give: pick 29 and pick 36, Shane Savage, Dan McKenzie,

Trade 7:

Trade 8:
Saints give: future 1st, (Port) and pick 44
WB give: Pick 3

Trade 9:
Geelong give: 9 and 11
Saints give: 3

1.5 Mil at one of:
1. Williams
2. Crouch, (only 1.1M)
