This is going to be another Essendon dominated trade period, i just can’t see it going any other way.

So while they do what they do we should stay well clear and just nail down the deals we’ve prioritised early then sit back and see if any opportunities open up. It’s almost a given that they’ll be mentioned as a possible destination for every player on the market.

It's more like Norf is that underachieving kid that you just know is at his capacity to learn and build, so you just learn to accept his mediocrity and don't blame him because hes never really had the tools and stability to get better, so you just accept it and let him go.

Essendons more like the spoiled kid that always got what he wanted, and he even built up a reputation for being a strong, independent boy, although it was all just a charade. Hes eventually found out for who he is, is disgraced and fails to fire in the years after. His lives in the shadows of his poor decisions, while lamenting how he could have done so much more with the tools he had.

And that is why Essendon are the bigger rabble
Not even Mark Brahshaw and his 3 sons can save Norf .James‘s sons arnt much cop either. As for Essendon, might as well as bring back Timmy to play, because we sure know he can’t bloody well coach.
Life is just grand at the moment, until 10pm Friday comes At least.

Brown is too one dimensional. Runs in straight lines & if he doesn’t mark the ball he’s out of work. Pass!
Definitely the biggest downside to sideshow bob

Would our run & gun game style suit him?

Reckon he’s Essendon bound aswell

I feel like Caldwell has only showed more at AFL because he is the one who has agreed to come to us.

If it was Hately who was coming instead, he would be the one who had shown more.
Yeah it’s not far off a nil all draw really. Neither has shown all that much and both are being targeted on potential rather than performance.

Drums are beating re Caldwell. Sounds very likely indeed :thumbsu:

Starting mids = Steele, Clark, Gresh/Caldwell next year?
Unless Caldwell takes a ginormous step up over the off season, he wouldnt be close to being a starting midfielder next year. At least not if we want to continuing being up the top of the ladder.

He is a mid for a few years time. Not one we should be putting our hopes on to help us improve next year.

I don’t really see why this bothers people so much. If he kicks 60 goals, who cares how he moves.
Last player to kick 60+ for us would beeee Roo/Milne surely

Wouldn’t say no but that’s me - What’s Fergus Watts up to these days triggering bro

It's not just Saints fans though. Ask any Giants fan who they'd prefer and you'll get the same answer 9 out of 10 times.

There is a reason he was offered a 4 year deal to stay.

I just cant stand him and the way he flops at every possible moment of a game. Would be embarrassed to that in our forward line.
Yeah his flopping is painful to watch, but he's far from alone in the comp at milking frees. Grimes flops, Selwood/Shuey mastered the dropping of the knees, Papley stages at times. All still exellent players. I'm not overly interested in getting him when we already have King, Membrey, Battle and Marshall in the mix, but I do rate him.

Phil Davis giving him a wrap was enough for me - Steele vibes with Ward

He might have more potential than Hatley but saying he has shown heaps of that potential at AFL level is having rose coloured glasses on.

I don't think anyone has said that though have they

He's definitely showed some potential though and slightly more than Hately IMO.

Looks like he's going to be a very good little contested ball winner to me.

Ain't gonna get flopping frees at St Kilda.
Gonna throw off our team balance.
Yuck to look at.

Did hear on the trade segment on SEN today that Bombers are chasing Caldwell hard. Apparently for him it’s not about the money but opportunity to play. They mentioned it’s either GWS, Bombers or us but that he wasn’t terribly convinced after his exit interview at the Giants.
So, if we’ve convinced him he’s likely to get plenty of opportunity to play, surely it’s a no-brainer he picks us?

I’m not a hately fan to be honest.

Nothing against the kid I just thought at the championships he had a bit of the Luke dunstan feel to him. He was very good but skills weren’t great, lacked a bit of athleticism and pace to my eye.

Just had a quick peak at his combine and apparently he didn’t impress so I’m sticking with my what you see is all you’ll get, a good honest, big inside mid.

Most Saints fans would assume Bytel will be better than Byrnes because he was higher rated as a junior. It means **** all once you're drafted. Saints gave Danny Mack a 4 year deal doesn't mean he'll be a gun. I rate Caldwell as a prospect just don't want to stump up top dollar for a developing mid. Otherwise we might as well draft Macrae's brother and develop him ourselves. Jye has had a pretty injury prone start to his career.
