Brad is so desperate to leave the Crows he was willing to play for Port...
Think about that for a second.
He has a radio gig on Adl radio every week. Been saying for ages he really wants to stay in Adl with his GF, brother, mates etc but understands where the AFC is at with their rebuild and need for draft currency. Said he's not a fan of living in Melbourne (Ballarat boy) and would only do so if it was to a contender. That's where the willingness to go to Port would've come from.

He's obviously looked at your list and spoken to Ratten and he's convinced you're a contender.

Think this will end well for all parties, no need for angst.

I'd pay Crouch 50k extra a year if Adelaide will take Dmac off our hands haha.

I get the frustration from Roo but surely they didn't actually think Crouch would net them pick 2? The AFL only do that kind of thing for teams like GC.

Players who have netted first round compo ever.

Goddard. Daisy, Buddy, Frawley, Tom Lynch. Daisy is an anomaly but that's just Carlton. ( Making sure they got no Compo for Betts ).
I think the Adelaide pick 2 thing is just something the media have made up.

I'd be more than happy for the club to pay him 700k if they gave us pick 20 for Dunstan.

Use that puck on Caldwell and take 15 to the draft.

Thank ya mother for the rabbits

This is the one
We pull this rabbit out the hat and itll be god damn sorcery/witchcraft levels

No way we use our first round
Get farked
We'll get Caldwell with that

On the band compo thing..is it the total payments or just the first year on how they determine what round they get?
Surely its total
Otherwise we offer him massive first year and then follow on with birdmans idea
?

He’s almost 30 has played just over 50 games and frankly more often than not he’s lousy.

There will be plenty of players with more talent and upside available so he would be a waste of a list spot imo.
Have to disagree here Yawkey.
Maj played his best footy at CHB and was more than serviceable in that position.
He's also able to play ruck and forward as an emergency depth type.

Were the arrangement to be that he's a VFL player unless called up, then he'd fit our current needs very well and would be free of trade cost.

I'm not advocating it BTW..

I hope you campaigners get pick 2 one way or the other.

Best case for both sides.

Maybe Gil can throw us a bone and say cause of Covid and the cap going down 650k is what a 750k contract used to be.

Let’s be honest that would still be more subtle than Frawley for pick 3

Then fans really need a reminder: Caldwell has played about 11 games total for about the same number of disposals per game. He passes the eye test and hopefully becomes a star, but he still has a long way to go.

EDIT: Crouch is ready to go and improves our midfeild immediately. And at 26 we should expect a good amount of football out of him even though he's had his injuries.

A lot of people were saying the same about Hanners and Hill but they haven't exactly passed the test yet. Saying that I think Crouch is a safer bet than the two I mentioned being a genuine ball magnate

Also a lot of saints fans were calling for Coffields omission at times this season saying he wasnt up to it then he turns it on and comes 5th in bnf in his 3rd season. Caldwell probably would have had more opportunities if they didnt persist with an out of form Cognilio all season. Ratten is the perfect coach for Caldwell because he holds his nerve and persist with kids who he believes in.

The system isn't a system. It's a discretionary value judgment behind closed doors.

Adelaide being at the bottom of the ladder is in stark contrast to the Hawk's position, and losing a valuable player in a spoon year impacts their ability to win much next season.

The Crows want a band 1 compo, and the league will also want them to have one to help them get back up.

Someone at head office will call Lethers, and Lethers will play ball. And we'll get something back, hopefully.

Bullshit.
The system already has a factor in it if you lose a massive player.
Hawks pick for Buddy was clearly first round, but their pick was closer to end of first round due to their high ladder position.
There is a discretionary element to it , but not total bullshit off the cuff.

Crouches recent performance/profile : Ho Hum.
Crouches pay =Significantly less than what Daisy, Buddy, Goddard, Frawley got nearly a decade ago.
Crouches age = Prime.

I don't know how Saints and Crows can negotiate better outcomes for both clubs when the AFL has a super secret magical formula. How can we get the Crows a better compo pick when no one knows the exact figures to get to?
Adelaide is good business for the afl huge. They will ensure they get 1st round compo one way or another

This this & this

Not necessarily DMac, but this is the idea.

Plucking numbers, but say we want to pay B.Crouch $550-650k. If another $100-$200k is the difference between them receiving pick 20 and pick 2, then Adelaide can easily help us get them there. 2 ways I can see for them to do that:

1. Salary swap
Taking on DMac's god awful contract for a 5th rounder is a great idea. Same works for JWebb. Take on Webb and give us a half decent pick for him too (I want to keep Webb and slot Clark into the mids but I can see the logic here). That way, the extra $$ we pay for B.Crouch is offset by them releasing us from an existing contractual commitment

2. Draft pick purchase
Overpay us for an OOC player such as for Dunstan, Lonie, Parker or Savage - their choice (next years second and this years third sound good). Or flick us their second this year for a complete punt on someone like Clav or Phillips. Regardless of the specifics, essentially we are buying their pick with the extra $$, and the player is just token to facilitate the swap

Either way, Adelaide walk away with pick 2. We walk away either financially neutral, or buy a half-decent pick with the extra financial commitment

Win - Win
Joffa posted earlier.Allow Crows to get Band1 and do a Trade where we get a 2nd Rd pick for Spook

You're on the gear SS.
Tell me again how the match review system works??

Mate I live pretty much in Essendon.

I can guarantee you if he chooses Essendon it’s not cause it’s 20 minutes closer to Bendigo.

While he can go any road, it’s quicker to take the Northern which will eventually lead to the old Calder.
You mean Caldwell can go any road?

This is as close to an explanation of the way the compo system works as you will get.

Every salary of every player in the league between the ages of 25 and 30 is used to create a ladder to see where the contract offer sits in the AFL pay scale. Only guaranteed money and guaranteed years count.

So if the FA's offer falls

Top 5% of salaries then its Round 1

5 to 15% gets you end of Round 1

15 to 30% gets you start round 2

30 to 50% gets you end of round 2.

The kicker is the bonuses for age - the salary's will be tight and a 6 point bonus that is triggered by offering a 25 YO the same contract deal as a 28 YO would see the compensation for the younger player rated much more highly than the older player. Maybe move them 30 spots up the actual pay scale ladder which would move then way up the compensation scale.

Yes but you throw in the reduction in salary cap, and the discretionary element that saw Frawley get pick 3 for Melbs, and that formula isn't worth a pinch of sh1t any more.

The Crows are stuffed. But they're a big club and the leage will be keen to see them have some good news and get back into the 8 ASAP.

I don't see why peeps would have trouble believing this.
It's what the AFL do, and have done many times. They love dodgy formulas that let them do whatever they want.

Crouch is a great get at around $650k and sends a clear message to players on the move that Saints are building something. Should make it easier to convince other targets to come across. Good to knock over early.

5 x $600K is the mail..

Now it's up to the crows.
