I wouldn’t trade Dunstan , Webster , Dmac , Savage or Robbo . First of all I don’t think we would get much for them anyway . But they are also back up if we have one of those years with injuries.
As an example , say Wilkie does his ankle , Paton gets concussed , and Coffield has a long term knee problem. At least we still have some decent defenders to bring in .
Same with Dunstan in the midfield, you just never know how good or bad injuries will be .

Sounds like our cap is starting to get tight though.

If that's the case and we want to bring more in this trade period, we can't afford to be paying decent contracts to blokes that likely won't be best 22.

Yeah good point .

Thought it was a madhouse in here. Treloar main thread has dogs supporters suggesting that they get three first round draft picks and Treloar for Dunkley and a future second. Delusional
Just goes to prove that neither the Saints nor the Crows boards have a monopoly on dreamers - I'm sure there's a couple on every board, only the names change.

Was chatting to a mate this morning who knows a fair bit about AFL and Trading and he's advised that trades can and will happen this week - don't be surprised to see some of these trades happen as late as Thursday and most (if not all) will involve current AFL players.

PM me if you want more info.

I think Treloar and even maybe Higgins is a pipe dream.

Can only go off what lethlean and Gallagher have said, but we aren't in the same situation cap wise as we used to be.

Unsurprising considering
Hanners
Hill
Crouch
Jones
Butler
Howard
Ryder

All enticed to the club in the past year.

And we have legacy players we can't move who are on good coin

Dunstan
Savage
Roberton
Webster

Then we have to consider contracts for the following

King
Clarke
Coffield
Battle (just signed a 2 year deal)
Steele (signed a 2 year deal)
Billings

etc

So the deadwood (as far as SC is concerned) is the depth players we can't move on.

We lose Jack Steven's contract money, Hanners wont trigger the 5th year, Robbo will be out the door when his contract is over if he can't break into the team.

In saying that, if we can't move these guys on this trading period, we need to utilise them. They are all capable of playing AFL, just not best 22 on paper for 2021.

However we had a run or relative luck with injuries this year. These guys can be construed as good depth and even though they are overpaid for depth, thats not their fault.

Treloar may have a decision to make if the suggestion that he wants us is true. Either play for his preferred club and sacrifice $s on a restructured deal or go elsewhere and keep the $s (which he is 100% entitled to do, particularly with a young family)

Interesting watch
I suspect the deal is 'I'm staying unless you pay me to play for the Saints'. Lethlean whistling to himself in the background.

They aren't the problem within themselves. It's the coin they're on..

Narkle went at pick 60 and imo that was about right.

Phillips gets a bagging by some but I agree with you he‘s a player I’m happy to keep. My point on narkle was really more about how highlights from a players best game are often deceptive.

He looks okay as the guy who comes in and gets to do the flashy stuff. He looks good doing what he does, a bit like Matty Parker, he's got a bit of up tempo pace about him. He's young enough to take step but not sure if he's another guy who just isn't quite committed enough. Geelong don't make too many trade errors.

Any word on lonie/hind?
Reports suggest the Dogs have gone cold on Lonie, which means he will probably stay. And with it looking unlikely that Higgins will leave Richmond, that's a decent result keeping Lonie.

Sounds like Hind to Essendon is a sure thing. If it doesn't happen during trading period, I think we will just delist him and he will go to Essendon as a DFA.

If we are involved in anymore trades I will be surprised. It seems to have gone really quiet on the Saints involvment in trades for this year. Although I was surprised with the amount of trades we did last year, and most were made public at the finish of trade week.

Carlisle is not signed so we would have to be in talks with ??? about grabbing a KPD at the very least.

We have probably kept some of them too long, and they are past their useby date.

They are perfect as back up but we are paying them as best 22 stars. Guys like Dunstan are probably on more than a lot of Richmond's mid tier premiership players.

It may seem that way but they have their shares of lousy picks.

I watched him during the carnival and obviously with the name narkle st kilda fans ears pricked up. I was just underwhelmed by him, he’s skilful and has a few tricks but not great production. He went in the same draft as Phillips who we preferred at 56.

One knock on Phillips was he was versatile being able to play hf, hb, wing and inside/outside mid but lacked X factor. Neither have done much but have shown enough to still be on a list and getting some games, might just be that picks 56 and 60 were on the money.
